Peyton Manning: Successful In Professional Football

Peyton Manning, one of best quarterbacks, was born on March 24th in 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana (“Peyton”). Since the day he was born it was known that he was going to be a star quarterback just like his dad. Not only has he been successful in professional football but he has was successful through high school and college. He also excelled academically in both college and high school. He not only gives his time to football but also to people in need. Manning has shown success both on and off the field. Despite all of this success, Manning has faced many internal and external struggles.

These qualities that Manning has influenced many mom’s to make their child’s name Peyton (Jenkins and Kaplan). This is a hint that many people adore Manning and look up to him as a role model both on and off the field. Manning has a pretty good role model himself, his idol is his father (“Peyton”). Manning has earned many MVP awards during his NFL career. Some of these awards are for Super Bowls some are just for the NFL (Freedman xiv). He was named to his first Pro Bowl in 1999 and he led the Volunteers to the Orange Bowl in 1997 (Freedman xiv). As a sophomore he led Newman High to Class 2A semifinals and created a deadly duo with his brother Cooper, as together they had 73 receptions , 13 touchdowns, and 1,250 yards. As a junior he passed for 2,345 yards, threw 30 touchdowns, and only had four interceptions. His senior year finished his high school career with 7,190 yards and 92 touchdowns. Also earning the “Gatorade National High School Player of the Year Award” (“Peyton”). When it came to the time to choose what college to pick Manning did not pick the University of Mississippi, where his dad and brother ,Cooper, went because he was afraid he would not live up to what everyone thought of him (“Peyton”).Off of the field Manning connects with fans by signing their autographs and talking to them. Manning did not just play football, he played multiple sports, including baseball and basketball (“Peyton”). Despite how much he plays the game, he did not have the best sportsman ever. When he would go to his dad’s football games he would boo the teams as they came onto the field (“Peyton”). Most athletes that go professional are often forced into playing the sport, especially if their parent plays the sport, but Archie never forced Peyton into playing football. His dad also never interfered with practices or coaches (“Peyton”). When Manning was traded from the Colts he was not looking for the team that would offer his the most money, he was looking for the team he would be most comfortable with (“Long Game”).
