Philosophy of Education
As I begin my education for becoming a teacher, I am beginning to make decisions on things such as how I would like my teaching style to be, ways to deal with discipline problems, and how I would like my classroom to be set up.
However, I cannot put my ideas into one philosophy. I feel that using many styles of teaching is better than just using one. Some students may learn better with one style of teaching while others may learn better with another. The teaching philosophies I can best relate to are realism, pragmatism, and idealism.
The main reason I would like to become a teacher is the love for little kids. I really enjoy being around children. After teaching

When students arrive in the mornings, I will have a small review assignment on the board for them to work on until class begins. There will also be a set order for teaching the different subjects. Not having big changes in their daily routine should help the students feel more comfortable and help keep control in the classroom.
I will use involvement in activities to keep the children interested in learning. A field trip, group activity, or play that is related to a subject we are covering will be very educational and motivational for the students. Anything that keeps them involved will keep them interested as well. Like the Idealists, I will encourage the children to challenge themselves to learn more and make better grades.
When dealing with discipline problems I will use the idealistic, realistic, and pragmatic philosophies. Rules and punishments for the classroom will be established the first day of school and posted on the walls. I will deal with discipline problems in the classroom, using the idealist approach, sending the students to the principal’s office as a last resort. Punishment for breaking rules will be pulling a card or writing their name on the board, which lowers their deportment grade for the day and takes away part of their recess. Also instead of just punishing the students, I will try to help them solve the problem. I will also have
I will establish an authoritarian classroom to make sure the students behave. I will not be a strict teacher, but I will have to stand up enough to be in control of them. I will keep the classroom organized the particular way I described earlier unless the need to rearrange the room occurs. To help keep up students’ motivation I will try a variety of teaching methods and supplements to keep things interesting. I will try my best to keep a constant good attitude and not take out my personal frustrations on my pupils.
Classroom management is vital to the survival of a positive classroom environment. Rules could be established in a democratic way. Ask the students what rules they think are appropriate in a classroom setting, based on rules from their previous classes. Students should feel that their opinion is important. Communication, respect, and considerate behavior will be encouraged. It is important to manage all discipline problems consistently, effectively and most importantly inside the classroom. As the teacher, it will be important to navigate behavior and promote individual growth when dealing with
Ever since I was a little girl I had this dream of being a teacher. Whether it was making up “pretend” tests or having my younger brother sit through my instruction, I knew that I was a born teacher. And now that I have grown and matured into a responsible young woman, I feel that my place in this world is in the classroom. I feel that the children are our future and we should teach them everything we know to the best of our abilities. Every summer since the age of 13, I have been babysitting for local families in my small hometown of Pineville. In fact, 2 years ago I had been babysitting for a Optometrist and his wife and they were expecting their second child. As an honor, they asked if they
I believe that education is an individual, unique experience for every student who enters a classroom. In order for children to benefit from what schools offer, I think that teachers must fully understand the importance of their job. First, I believe that teachers must consider teaching to be a lifestyle, not a mere forty-hour-a-week job, because a teacher's goals for his/her students encompass much more than relaying out-of-context facts to passive students. As professionals entrusted with the education of young minds, teachers must facilitate learning and growth academically, personally, and ethically. By providing a quality education to each individual in one's classroom, a teacher equips children
My life has been influenced greatly by teachers. Since I was a child, teaching is all I wanted to do. My mother is a fifth grade teacher. I have quite a few friends that are teachers. I have been fortunate to be influenced by some great teachers throughout my academic career. I love to be around kids and I like participating in the process of learning. I appreciate learning even today. I enjoy the learning process and hope to one day influence students in the future. I hope to one day become a high school social studies teacher. I enjoy history and geography, and I especially love politics and discussing current events. I like class discussions and letting different opinions express themselves.
I have always wanted to become a teacher. From playing school with my little sisters, to volunteering a summer camps and elementary schools, there is not better feeling, to me, than to know that I have helped someone to accomplish a goal and develop better as a person. I think that there is no better way to impact the lives of other people than to become a teacher. As a teacher, not only will be able to affect the lives of these students from day t day, but I can also make an impact on the life of each child and hopefully their family as well.
My beliefs and values about early childhood education is based upon understanding that all children are unique individuals who need a caring, nurturing, and secure environment in which to grow and develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Children under the age of three are in critical stages of development, it is my belief that a quality child care environment will have a positive impact on a child’s development and make a significant difference in the life of a child and his or her family. My philosophy of early childhood education and the elements I believe are necessary in developing a developmentally appropriate child care environment is rooted in my views and beliefs about experimentalism, progressivism,
For many individuals, choosing a career is one of the hardest decisions to be faced with. The majority of students in college spend their first year stressing about what they are going to do with the rest of their life. I, fortunately, have known since I was in middle school that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. As a future teacher I feel that essentialism and progressivism are going to be my unique philosophies of education.
There are many philosophies to consider when preparing to teach. The ones I wish to
My philosophy as an educator entails many different ideas and techniques. I feel that certain basics must be taught and from there, students should be challenged to use these basics to develop their minds. I also feel that education should help a person become an individual who thinks for himself.
I feel that the teacher sets the “tone” for the classroom and models many of the behaviors that the students will exhibit in the classroom. I believe that many students simply have not had the opportunity to learn appropriate ways to manage their emotions and frustrations. This is where the teacher can incorporate activities and lessons that teach students how manage their actions and emotions. I also believe that it is better to be proactive in the classroom, rather than reactive when dealing with discipline issues. Educational professionals need to set up their classrooms with predictable schedules, procedures, as well as, employ effective teaching strategies. I also believe that teachers should strive to develop an environment of mutual respect, and be consistent with procedures, rules, consequences, and
Education is inevitable. It is all around us because we can learn from virtually anything. When you are cooking, dancing, talking or any other activity you have actually had to learn several things to be able to do them. In the educational perspective, I am a pragmatist and I tend to follow after Dewey's footsteps. The concept of Pragmatism is one that developed in the 20th century. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning should involve real-life situations. Learning becomes more concrete to a student when they apply it to real-life situations, as where learning things that do not connect to them has more of an abstract sense. Personally, I would have to agree with Dewey when he said, "I
In my classroom I plan on being the ‘head’ of the classroom. I will expect the children to listen to me. I plan on using a blend of assertive discipline, as set forth my Lee and Marlene Canter, and democratic classroom, as set forth by Alfie Kohn. There will be certain rules each child will be expected to follow and consequences and rewards based on the following of the rules. I don’t want to simply punish though; I want to try and understand why a student acts up or
My Educational Philosophy consists of bits and pieces of many of the philosophies because most of the philosophies included components I would not or could not include in my own. None of the philosophies metaphysics matched my own, so I combined the metaphysics of realism and idealism because Idealists believe that the spirit and mind are the only reality, where realists believe that the body or matter is more real than the mind. I believe that the mind and spirit and body are a unit and must work together for the common good. I think that the curriculum of
I am going to maximize the student’s learning in my classroom by having everything organized. I would make my lesson plans ahead of time so that I am not stressed. If the teacher is less stressed, than the children would be relaxed. I personally believe that it will be an easier way, if you have all your lessons planned out ahead of time.
