Interview 1 For this assignment, I was required to interview three individuals and ask them about their past and present physical activity, sport, and physical education experiences. While conducting these interviews, I gained a great deal of insight into the lives of several family members. The first interview I conducted was with my younger brother. He is sixteen years of age and is a sophomore at Elizabethton High School. During the interview he spoke with me about his past and present physical activity, sport, and physical education experiences. He explained to me how during elementary and middle school, some of his physical activities included riding bikes, throwing baseball with friends, and swimming. All of these activities occurred …show more content…
He explained to me how in elementary school, middle school, and high school; his class would normally participate in some sort of game or sport. The difficulty of these activities would increase based on the grade level of the students participating. By middle school, his gym class was required to complete a physical fitness test which included pushups, pullups, sit-ups, and a mile run. For high school, my brother was only required to complete physical education class for half of his freshmen year. Since then, he has chosen to enroll in and optional strength and conditioning class at his high …show more content…
He is seventy-three years of age and has managed to maintain an active lifestyle. I also asked him about his past and present physical activity, sports, and physical education. He explained to me how upon graduating high school, he joined the United Sates Navy and served as an election making repairs on ships and equipment. After serving in the Navy, he then began working for NASA. While at NASA he continued to use his skills as an electrician and also became certified as a firefighter. He explained to me how the training he underwent to become a firefighter was very specialized which made it even more physically demanding and difficult. After working for NASA, he and his family moved to Tennessee, where he continued to serve as a volunteer firefighter. Although he hired contractors for certain jobs, he was able to built most of his home himself form skills he had gained while growing up. Today, my wife’s grandfather consistently walks a mile every day in order to maintain cardiovascular health, preforms yard work, and home
Almost all student athletes get butterflies before that Friday night football game, before the fans get to watch them compete, or even the to get the ability to practice. Many argue that high school sports are a distraction in the classroom or even cause career ending injuries. There are many different scenarios that prove that high school sports do the exact opposite of those. When it comes to high school sports, it keeps students fit, boosts a student’s academic performance, and enhances a student’s self-esteem. High school sports are very beneficial and for anyone who is looking to take on a new challenge to take on.
The Margaret Eaton School (MES) played an important role in Canadian physical education during a period of time known as the “golden age” for women’s sport in Canada. This essay will discuss how Margaret Eaton School came to be and why it is considered one of the leading schools in the development of women’s physical education in Canada in 1901, with the help of Emma Scott Raff and Margaret Eaton. The school started out as “The School of Expression” focusing on theatre and physical culture, and later (1925) shifted its views to focus solely on physical education. I plan to argue that from 1901 to 1942, the Margaret Eaton School played an innovative role in Canada in the development of physical education by offering women a comprehensive
First of all, students do not have much knowledge about the different fitness components; they do not understand the relation between the fitness components and health. If students acquire the background knowledge about fitness, it could improve the class engagement and motivation, and increase the independent drive to exercise. Second barrier to students’ achievement is the lack of motivation to be active, and even more difficult, to specific fitness activities, such as sit-ups and push-ups. In today’s society, students spend more time sitting in front a screen and less time moving. Parent and school today have more responsibility making sure the children get enough physical activity. According to the New York Times (2016), “early school physical education (PE) programs can make a significant difference, and the earlier these routines are learned the more likely they will be carried forth into a healthy adulthood”. Another barrier that prevents students’ success is the loss of instructional time due to discipline problems. The classes are too big, with many diverse students with individual problems, which are difficult to address when these issues are from very different backgrounds. Finally, there is not enough support from home affecting not only physical education, but
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.

Many youth sports are part of community organized after-school programs. There are many different types of these programs such as T-Ball, Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football, soccer, martial arts, cheerleading, and so forth. “There are over 40 million youth participating in organized sports, and both girls and boys have a dazzling array of choices and can play a sport year round” (Le Menestrel and Perkins 13). Communities use youth sport as an outlet to encourage social activity, a healthy lifestyle, and skill development for that particular sport. For example, “Participation in organized sports can provide opportunities for youth to learn more about specific skills and exercises associated with a particular sport” (Perkins and Noam 76). These programs offer opportunities to boost skills and connect positively with others. Without these activities, parents will have to find another developmental setting that may not give similar or beneficial outcomes as those of organized youth sport. Studies found that, “Sports
As a Physical Education teacher of Year 9 and 10 students, it is important to take steps to achieve prolonged participation in sport. The experience that a student has in HPE is likely to determine whether that student continues to participate in sport both at school and once they graduate (Penney, 2006). Wahl-Alexander (2011) found that students’ strongest memories from physical education were from authentic and rich sport experiences resulting from Sport Education (Siedentop & Tannehill, 2006). Sport Education aims to ensure the unit is delivered in a way that mimics an actual sport season, which has many

Physically Dayluis has always been an active child that likes to play outside and enjoys various sports. Though from early childhood to now he has narrowed down his interests as well as progressively developed more skill. When he was younger he used to play baseball and soccer but as he approached 12 years of age he realized he was much better at baseball and enjoyed it more than soccer. His coach recommended more formal baseball training as he grew up and acquired a talent for playing baseball and even played All-Star in his league. Thus, I encouraged him to follow his interests and fostered his newfound talent by signing him up on a travel team so he could explore if he wants to play baseball in high school.

In 2008, 30.2% of youth ages 6 to 12 were active to a healthy level through sports(“Facts”). This shows that some kids are getting the minimum amount of physical activity. To raise this level, all kids should include sports in their daily life. All kids should be engaged in sports. Regular activity is required for good health and high school athletes are more likely to attend college.

High school sports also has a benefit to an athlete's physical health. Today’s teens are exposed to a great amount of entertainment avenues such as television, video games, and other media devices. These things allow teens to be lazy. Young people generally get less physical activity as they get older. By being physically active it can help prevent obesity. The experience of sports, exercise, and kinesthetic activities helps boost teens’ bodies. Involvement in sporting activities keeps teens moving and and keeps them engaged physically which is vital for their overall health and
What is a sports physical therapist? A sports physical therapist is a physical therapist who specializes in the field of sports medicine. This type of therapist is qualified to work with patients who have suffered debilitating injuries from sporting events (Thyberg). Sports physical therapists work with a number of patients with problems ranging from muscle pains to sports injuries. Their work doesn’t consist of only working with injured patients; sports physical therapists must come up with care plans, fill out paper work, and check in with their patient’s doctors for status updates. There are several components that make up the job of a sports physical therapist.
The perspective of this paper is to develop a philosophy on physical education and then explain what kind of job we plan on having later on in life and relate physical education to that. The purpose for developing this philosophy is to try and get the most out of the people I’m working with on physical education, whether it is an adult or adolescent.
