Based on information from the Occupation Outlook Handbook, " it is possible that cars may not need as much service repairs due to electric cars." (www.bls.gov/ooh). According to Tamra Orr, "very few car owners have the necessary expertise to work on their own cars, even for routine maintenance." (3). With that being said, mechanics will still be needed to complete basic maintenance and repairs, like replacing brake pads and changing the oil on vehicles. I think being an Automotive Service Mechanic is the perfect career choice for me, it offers flexible hours if you have a family. I can also work part-time while in school. Based on my results from the Visual, Aural, Read-write and Kinesthetic (VARK), I know that becoming an Automotive Service Mechanic is the right choice. I prefer to hands-on activities and building things. I learn best by doing, not listening to a lecture. I am a kinesthetic learner. I like to learn in different ways. I also have difficulty sitting still or staying in one place for too long so I move around a lot. Becoming an Automotive Service Technician can allow me to physically move throughout the day and the ability to use my hands. I also think my career choice would give me a meaningful life. Becoming an Automotive service technician will give me a purpose and I would be utilizing my strengths which in turn would make me happy in the long
