As a doctor of physical therapy, one of my career goals is being able to provide an optimum level of care to every individual that I encounter. Throughout my life, I have always found joy in helping others. Whether that help was big or small, it made me happy knowing that I could put a smile on another person's face. Early in college when I was deciding which career path to choose, this factor influenced my decision to pursue physical therapy. Going to Samuel Merritt University will prepare me to achieve this goal because through their extensive clinical experience, small class sizes, and immediate graduate success, I will have ample opportunities to refine my skills in providing care. Although not many students are selected to join their program each year, it allows for an intimate professor-student relationships to be formed. Since there is a low student to professor ratio, more responsibility gets placed onto the students because they don't have to fight for the professor's time and attention. Therefore, if a subject is too complex, there should be no reason for that student to question the professor about it. This is important because it helps prevents students from falling behind. Through my undergraduate experience, I learned that building rapport with my professors was imperative because I could utilize them as a resource. As a student, I take advantage of all my resources to maximize my educational experience. This includes having discussions with my professors during and after class because they can provide different perspectives and insights onto difficult subject matters. Through Samuel Merritt's small classes sizes, I can build rapport with my professors, thus diversifying and refining my knowledge as a physical

Columbus State University has a 17:1 student to teacher ratio. The extra attention shown to students, because of a smaller class size, is what helps them, the students, to really understand the material they are learning. In order to be the best I can be, at the subject that I
At Brewton-Parker College, the campuses community is quite small. I cannot decide if it is a good thing that everyone knows each other. Because the school’s population is not quite as high as a big university, everyone knows everyone’s business. No matter what someone does, good or bad, it gets out, but for me the size in beneficial. The less people there are, the less chance I have of getting distracted. I love how small the classes are, too, because my teachers actually knows who I am. Also, when I need help with what we’re learning or I just have a simple question, I can easily ask my teacher, and he or she can help me better understand what is going on. The teachers here, at Brewton-Parker College, are kind and beyond willing to help me, no matter how long it takes; help is always there when I need it. For instance, the library has become my best friend. I like how I can go and have my own table to get a good amount of work done, and the books are such a useful resource for
The article that I chose was published by Mayo Clinic School of Health Science, the title of the article is “Physical Therapy”. The article informs the reader on the roles, goals, as well as the overall definition of a physical therapist. According to the article, “Physical therapists (PTs) work with patients who have impairments, limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes.” Therefore, a physical therapist works directly with the population that has a form of impairment in their movement, whether it is from an injury or an illness. My career goal is to have my own Physical Therapy practice, and to be my own boss. I want to help revolutionize the ways in which medical personnel approach their patients, as there tends to be a disconnection between patients and medical staff. One of the biggest challenges I will likely face is owning my own practice, because I would first need to work under another company until I gain enough experience and financial wellness to open my own office. However, money and experience are only a small portion of making my business and my vision successful. I will need to be diligent in my pursuits, despite any setbacks that may occur, in an effort to help my practice thrive. My patients will be my number one concern in this respect. If I implement
The classes more discussion-oriented and students are expected to be ready to discuss reading and assignments each class. Most college students feel more comfortable asking for help in smaller class size. In addition, the teacher better understands student strengths and weaknesses. Also, teachers are more apt to help students and it is easier to class become a group of friends. However, in large college, the quality of understanding with professor is not as good and attendance is less likely to count toward your grade. Nonetheless, some people think it is more important to learn from famous professors than to have a small class. According to Stephen Pemberton, class size can make a difference in your education. (“The importance of class size, Match 09, 2009). Conversely, according to Mark Montgomery, educational consultant, smaller classes are taught by the least effective teachers.

Among my ideal aspects of a PA program, the small class size is one of my top criteria. During my years spent as an undergraduate it became apparent to me that I learn more easily in a smaller class size. Feeling comfortable interacting with and asking questions of both instructors and classmates has consistently been more productive for my ability to learn, and this comfort is more readily achieved by small class sizes. The smaller student-to-instructor ratio provides many benefits: more opportunity for asking questions, the increased interaction with faculty allows for the development of strong relationships, and instructors are more cognizant of
