This is where physical therapists come into place. Today, I will be providing you all with a better understanding of the profession and the role they have on transforming their patient’s lives. According to World Confederation for Physical Therapy, “Physical therapists help people maximize their quality of life,
Without the repetitive boredom of traditional therapy patients can look forward to seeing their physical therapist and focus less on their injuries.
Physical therapy takes a more direct pathway towards a more specific problem with the human body. Physical therapy is a rehabilitation that works towards a goal of helping patients maintain, improve, or recover their physical abilities, most often times after an accident causing traumatic injury or arthritis (Mayo School of Health Sciences). Patients of a physical therapist often come in solely for the purpose of regaining their movement, not the health aspect involved behind it. Most patients of this therapist have suffered sports injuries, traumatic accidents, over even simply a problem of weakening with age such as those who suffer arthritis or other weakening of the joints and muscles. With step by step sessions focusing purely on strengthening the muscles and joints required to perform the movement functions, the patients rebuild their way from movement with pain, to no pain or suffering involved in everyday activities. When a patient begins therapy, they more or less begin with baby steps such as stretches and hydrotherapy to allow the body to relearn the movements without pain (What is Physical Therapy?). In this particular case, Mr. G has admittedly refused to inform his physician of his fall. Gina realizes at the next session that Mr. G’s pain is not associated with his back injury at work, and suggests for him to inform his doctor so he may receive a proper evaluation and treatment. Since Gina notices that his pain differs from his previous pain associated with his previous injury, which leads to a few ethic-heavy routes in which Gina must evaluate. If she continues to provide physical therapy to the patient, she may risk further injury to the patient since she is not a licenses physician as does not possess the ability to evaluate and treat the patient. This brings forth a difficult dilemma for the physical therapist, in which the best course
Physical therapy is better than having surgery because it is less money and it gets the job done better than surgery does. Surgery is a waste of time and doesn't
A topic that interests me is the field of physical therapy. Ever since I have been playing soccer since of the age of 3, I have always had many different injuries. This has made me want to help people while learning such a unique field. I have had different ankle and knee injuries and having a good physical therapist really makes a big difference in rehab. This also impacted my desire to want to be a physical therapist because being in that environment; it was really fun being in such a good atmosphere while people are usually scared to go to see a doctor. Physical Therapy is a perfect topic I will research in regards to injury and prevention, which is essential part of a PTs job.
Imagine a soldier that looses a limb in battle, an athlete who breaks an bone or tears a muscle during practice or a game, a child born with a disability condition, or a police officer that has been shot or injured in the line of duty all have the same thing in common. Each of these different situations and many others activities require a Doctor of Physical Therapy in order to treat their complication. Being a Physical Therapists is a job that will always be needed; there will always be people that need help regaining their physical health. It is all about helping people ranging in all ages from the elderly, adults, teens, and children who have problems with their body, muscles and joints. People should follow the consequentialist view in any career field that they decide to pursue. Physical therapist need to have certain habits to succeed in the medical field. If they do not have these certain habits they will not be as successful as the therapist that do have these habits. Therefore, there are certain traits I believe a physical therapist needs to have, which is the ability to give encouragement, to be very knowledgeable, have a lot patience, and be personable in order to be successful in the job field.
In many ways physical therapy is similar to other health care fields. Rules, regulations, and standard of care is basically the same, however the environment and relationship with the patients is quite different. Physical Therapy clinics tend to be much more relaxed than other forms of health care. Physical therapist will typically go by their first names and dress in business casual to athletic attire. This helps the therapists seem more approachable and allows them to build stronger relationships with their patients. Unlike many other health professions, physical therapists can see a patient multiple times a week, for months. The patient-provider relationship becomes very close and often personal. This is one of the reasons that physical therapy attracted me so much. Getting to spend quality time with patients while building their strength and getting to know more about them as a person seemed like a worthwhile use of my abilities. Contemporary health care can at times seem like a wellness factory. A sick patient comes in, you fix them up and then it’s on to the next one. This attitude is not compassionate and is not conducive to growth for
