Physical activity is necessary to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Mainly guidelines suggest 150 minutes of physical activity weekly must be obtained to live a healthy life. There are many factors in each person’s life that determines the activity level of their lifestyle. A study done in Norway suggests youth sports has an influence on how active a person will be as an adult. There have been many suggestions that organized youth sports have an impact on an adult’s activity level, so researchers in Norway decided to conduct a study to see if this was accurate. Overall, this study showed being a member of a youth’s sports club has the strongest correlation to physical activity as an adult. Being physically active throughout childhood proves for one to be more fit during their lifetime. If a child is taught how to be physically active when young, they will continue to use those skills throughout their life. I feel like this contribute to the old saying, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. It is so much easier to teach a child how to be physically active, then having them try to teach themselves when they have reached adulthood. This is why children who are inactive become adults who are inactive. There are many limitations to this study. One being, the study focused on organized youth sports as the only type of leisure physical activity. Sports are not the only way of being active, therefore it cannot be the only predictor for physical activity in adults. Another limitation was the data was recorded by the answers subjects provided to the researchers. If you ask multiple people the same question, such as how vigorous do you exercise per week?, many people are going to have different interpretations which can throw off the results. The strengths of this study consist of the size of the study. The larger the study, the better average results you are going to acquire.
