Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you figure out why.” Personally, the second day came when I discovered the physician assistant profession and subsequently the Master of Physician Assistant program at MCPHS University. From then on all of my life experiences as an EMT, shadowing, and working have fervently inspired me to become the best possible physician assistant I can be. In order to prepare myself for my future as a physician assistant I have begun my tenure as an EMT. This endeavor has been an exciting challenge not only providing health care experience but also additional support to my future goal. For instance, as I have become versed in interacting with and treating
From a personal standpoint, the history of the physician assistant profession is remarkable, especially in regard to how established the profession became in such a rapid time. Ultimately, the profession was designed with the goal to benefit patients, and as a physician assistant, the approaches to accomplish this goal are infinite. Anyone would be honored to be a part of such an established profession and contribute to such a noble
Over the last few weeks, I have had the opportunity to experience some of the best and most difficult times of being a medical assistant. I have had hands on experience with patients of all different ages, races, religions, and personalities. These last few weeks have not only taught me patience, acceptance and boundaries of others, but I was able to learn more about myself as well. My externship experience has opened my eyes to the realities of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, physically and mentally, as well as the importance of family and friends. DePaul Medical Center and In Faith Psychological Services were the best locations I could have chosen for my first look into the life of a medical assistant.
Even though the medical profession seems to be swamped with choices, you will find it difficult to select one good option for your needs when you actually need to choose one. It means that you need to pre-plan and take appropriate action accordingly that will help you in becoming a successful medical professional.
Defining a moment in life that determines a career pathway is often a difficult task. Though sometimes inspiration from a particular person or event directly impacts that decision. The goal of becoming a Physician Assistant became clear for me in 2013 when I spent many months dealing with health professionals before and after the death of my infant daughter. This was a life changing moment and I knew then that the passion for working with people and being able to help solve some of the medical mysteries with diagnostic components would be where I wanted to make my career. Choosing the Physician Assistant role allows more of a social aspect with direct patient care in comparison to a Physician, yet they are more equipped to tailor a plan
As most kids grow up, their dream job changes all the time. One week they want to fly to the moon as an astronaut while the next week they want to rule the world as president. However, I’ve always wanted to help people by being a doctor. I would sit in front of the television mesmerized for hours by various trauma shows. I preformed surgery on my stuffed animals and diagnosed my friends and family with different fake illnesses. As I continued to grow up, I realized there is many types of jobs in the medical field that preform a variety of different services. After researching the different options, I fell in love with the idea of being a physician assistant (PA). A PA, supervised by a doctor, has the freedom to interpret tests, record progress, and diagnose patients. In order to become a PA, it takes a lot of schooling, but it is a rewarding job that I would be very good at. Ten years from now, I will be a great physician assistant due to the characteristics I already posses and the education that I will be receiving in the future.
A day in the life of a modern day female physician assistant depends greatly on the personal preference of said woman. One of the best things about taking physician assisting into consideration is the multiple jobs that one could choose from depending on what they want to specialize in. But no matter what job one chooses to specialize in, the activities, working conditions, and physical demands are all fairly similar. Physician assistants provide basic care in all areas of medicine including primary care, family medicine, and emergency medicine.
In the Medical field there is always going to be needs for people to fill certain jobs. One job that is interesting is a Physician assistant. A Physician assistant is a person who is qualified to carry out the same routine and procedures as physician under an actual physician's supervision. This job is interesting because it has to take care of everything a physician does except they are in a supervised environment. People would be interested in being a physician assistant because it deals with many different medical situations.
In order to begin my journey towards my post-secondary education, I must first finish the goal at hand which is to graduate high school. Currently, I am on course to reach my goal of graduation with a perfect unweighted 4.0 GPA. In addition, I am enrolled in my high school nursing assistant program which I will earn a certification for in June. Upon completion, I will be attending Lenoir-Rhyne University to take part in their Physician Assistant program in order to obtain my goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. I have always dreamed of having a career that will require a life-long pursuit of knowledge; medicine is constantly evolving and diseases are constantly changing, making it the perfect type of career. Due to my passion for medicine
Physician assistants are professionals that practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. The profession was created in the 1960s because physicians began to notice that there was a shortage of physicians practicing in primary care. To solve for the shortage of physicians, Eugene A. Sted Jr.,MD of Duke University gathered four men who had medical training in the military and created the first class of PAs in 1965.This first physician assistant class graduated from Duke University on October 6th, 1967 and the profession had great support from the medical community and the federal government claiming the PA profession was a “creative solution to physician shortages.”1 Today, there is still
Choosing my career was not an easy choice but becoming a Medical Assistant would be my “foot in the door” to becoming a nurse. I started Alaska Career College in fall 2014 to become a Phlebotomist. I thought that with my experience as a medical receptionist, I can further my career as a medical assistant rather than a phlebotomist. I love to draw blood but because of my personality, I thought that maybe it would be more beneficial to become a medical assistant instead. As a young Hmong child, I loved helping people especially the older folks who did not speak English well. It is my goal to help others who are in need of help and because of that, I chose to become a Medical Assistant. I do hope that one day
There is an endless amount of sources that are available for individuals striving to become a physician assistant. These sources include things such as news articles, magazines, scholarly articles, websites, and videos. These sources are easily accessible to you as a student through your school’s library or even sources online. All of these sources are extremely helpful to use when trying to obtain information about the physician assistant profession.
I plan to use my major in Biology and my minor in Chemistry to fulfill the requirements for P.A. school so that I can ultimately become a Physician Assistant. Physician Assistants are vital to the medical field as they operate along side the physician, but still have the capacity and capability to diagnose and treat patients even without the physician having to look over every move that they make. I believe that I would make a good candidate for an internal scholarship because I have the motivation to continue to push my self forward in my studies to reach my ultimate goal and I won't stop until I get there and by receiving a scholarship I believe that it will help me to reach my goal without worrying about not having enough money to get
My topic is a Physician Assistant. The reason I chose this topic is because I love helping people, well for the most part. I would like to help people get better and feeling normal again so they can go on with life. There’s so much sickness in the world today that we need more people in the medical field. We need help finding cures, so let’s see if I can try to get you to become a Physician Assistant also.
D-EMS is a volunteer-based, student-run organization that provides emergency care to people in the Dartmouth Community. As a certified-EMT I work for D-EMS by taking shifts (about 8hrs) every week, and while on shift, I take the call. During the calls, I along with my crew do patient assessments, take vital sign, and perform the necessary intervention required by the patients' signs and symptoms. I love being a part of D-EMS because I have wanted to work as an EMT for a long time. Since I want to become a doctor, I feel that experience in Emergency Medicine will teach me to be able to think creatively and efficiently when faced with a problem. EMTs need to create solutions even when they do not have sufficient supply. Since I wish to aspire to return to work in less developed countries, my home country and do medical reform. I think participation in Dartmouth EMS and further EMT experience will enable me to become the type of person to create solutions to such a medically deficient nation. I addition to loving the work that I do with D-EMS, I love being able to give back to the Dartmouth
When I enrolled in EMT school before my freshman year of college, I thought I was going to become a medical Superman. I envisioned myself extracting people from mangled car wrecks, jumping into swimming pools saving drowning children, and bringing every person having a myocardial infarction back to life. After my interaction with this patient, it became clear that the practice of medicine involves much more than physically saving lives and fixing problems. I was able to have an impact on this patient by simply engaging the patient as a human being
