My career goals consists of graduating from a four year college and applying to medical school, where I would continue my education to become a physician. Since the medical field consists of rigorous and tedious tasks, I need to further reinforce my critical and social skills. The LSAMP program offers workshops that can help me meet other like minded people all while reinforcing my critical thinking skills. Joining this program would benefit me greatly by exposing me to several social environments. These social environments can help me develop and strengthen my social skills; skills that would further prepare me for the strenuous challenge that accompanies medical school. Leadership skills are also crucial in becoming a physician, which is
Physician Assistant A physician assistant work in all areas of medicine. They also help with surgeries. I was stuck between this career and being a paramedic.
Being from rural Appalachia, I know that the inequalities in medicine are high and prevent many from seeking regular medical attention. Early in my life, I saw my friends, neighbors, and loved ones hesitate to seek medical attention due to economic reasons and the inability to access medical care.
I believe that in order to lead you must be able to learn how to follow first. Following will allow you to gain knowledge that will help you lead in the future. Serving is a big part of leadership because you must be able to help people. People put their trust into you to help them through their problems. As a leader you must be able to put other people’s problems ahead of yours.
My educational and career goals are to obtain a Master’s in Nursing and after gathering some experience I plan to build a community clinic. What inspired me to shape these career goals is growing up with little health care basically none. One day, I experienced a mild case of an asthma attack. It was the first time it ever happened to me. Knowing that the flat rates at hospitals was way more money than my mom could afford, she turned to local clinics. Taking the bus around the city trying to find a clinic that was not closed was difficult. But, we found one. However, they did not accept the health insurance we had. My mom had to plead several times and insisted in paying with the little money she had left before they finally accepted me. Being
My career goal is to become an epidemiologist. Considering this, I have developed a seven year plan to achieve this goal. My senior year of high school is the first year of my plan. That being said, I am currently enrolled in a Personal Care Attendant class. During my free time, I take online college health science courses. This fall I will begin working towards earning my bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. In addition to this, I will be becoming a Phlebotomist and earning other medical and science related certifications. Next, I plan to earn my Masters in Public Health, with a concentration in epidemiology. I am also considering pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology. Whichever happens, I am determined to complete my goal.
I heard about this program recently and was immediately drawn in. My career goal is to go to medical school and become a doctor. As a Black woman majoring in biology wanting to go to medical school, this program is a perfect fit for me and my educational/career goals. Right now, I feel confident in myself and my ability to apply for medical school and this program would be a huge learning opportunity. It is not every day that I would have the chance to learn more about medical and graduate school from people who have gone through the same struggles as me at one of the best medical schools in the country. One thing that stuck out to me about this program was how there will be a discussion about healthcare in underserved communities. We don’t

The choice of pursuing a medical career came naturally to me. Both of my parents are doctors and they have been the inspiration for my own journey to pursue a career in medicine. However, with many subfields, the medical field is quite expansive and over the years I have found that a few particular medical concepts have heightened my intellectual interest.
It wasn’t until recently, a few years ago, that I decided what career I wanted to pursue. I first started off joining the military right out of high school and after my fist enlistment of six years did I know that the military career field I was is (Food Service) wasn’t for me. I knew with my own personal experiences that I have encountered through the military that I enjoyed helping people, and volunteering at hospitals. I have always loved biology and anatomy, its remarkable what the human body can accomplish. So when my enlistment was coming to an end I knew I would take this change to go college using my military benefits. I knew right away I wanted to do something in the medical career field, but wasn’t sure which path to
Innovation is what motivates me to seek a career in medicine. I see an opportunity for physicians to not only have the ability to treat disease, but to become leaders in creating a new healthcare system. Healthcare as a business has put distance between its self in terms of innovation and design and not in the right direction. Cost are on the rise, with no signs of a satisfying quick answer on the horizon. To combat that, the medical community has trended towards increasing its collaboration with tech companies, in hopes to design a more efficient, cost-effective way to deliver care.
My career goal is to become a general physician. I chose this path because I believe that the goal of life is to help others. I also chose this goal because all of my life I have lived in rural towns where medical facilities need medical staff. When I was very young I remember that a doctor would go every other month to the small clinic that the town had and there were many people who needed care but did not have asses to it. Seeing all of the people who needed care inspired me to pursue the medical field. I decided to become a general physician because this will allow to not only focus on one specialty but everything in general. Also every patient that walks in through the door will be unexpected. It could be a patient suffering from a heart
My determination to pursue a career in medicine began in earnest during the summer of 2012, when I worked as an intern in Benedict Hospital in Sekondi, a town in Ghana, West Africa. It was the first time I was exposed to the realities of a career in medicine. Like many other hospitals in the region, it was heavily burdened with patients and lacked both the resources and qualified personnel to properly care for them. Although many people were treated every day, it was unsettling to watch those who were unfortunate enough to be sent home without the necessary care. As an intern, tasked with collecting patient health information, I came in contact with a mélange of people. They all sought reliable medical care, something that should always be available, but was not. At the end of my internship, I left with a clear sense of purpose, which has been a key driving force in my pursuit of a medical career.
My initial interest in medicine stemmed from a burst blood vessel in my nose at age ten, leading to a continuous months-long nosebleed that no one could explain. After many visits to the hospital, a specialist miraculously applied a technique to cure my months-long ailment. The specialist demonstrated a genuine interest in my overall care. He spoke with a voice of experience, and his kind demeanor kept me at ease. He gave me hope as to finding a remedy to my ailment, and I admired his ability to solve a mysterious problem.
It is hard to predict the future, but with effort, it is possible to guide the future. With the right choices, it is also possible to choose where you wanna be. Five years from now I hope to be studying medicine at USP. No matter what type of person you are, there is nothing better to see someone smile after you do something for him or her. For this reason studying medicine I'll be able to become a doctor and then I'll help everyone. Being a doctor I'll turn everyone's life better and then I'll see them smiling to me. Improving the health sector, is one of the most important things to do.
