This book is not so much a book on Japan, more or less it is a piece comparing the U.S. and Japan by looking at topics like cultural and social aspects faced by both countries. Towards the latter half of the book, Benfey really keys into aspects like Jiujutsu and martial arts along with forms of Japanese art and the idea of expressing ones spirit.

The Caldecott Medal is named after Randolph Caldecott, a 19th century illustrator. The award is presented to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children and was first awarded in 1938 for a book called Animals of the Bible illustrated by Dorothy Lathrop. The award is given out once a year every year since 1938 with the most recent award recipient being Dan Santat for The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend. Originally there were no awards given out to the illustrators of children books, but once you look at the detail and story building illustrations in each of the award winning books, it is easy to see why they created the award to begin with. It is my belief that without such colorful and interesting
Culture can be seen through many variations of media, one being a country’s newspaper. The Madagascar Tribune exemplifies one of their core values being health. Unfortunately stated in the Madagascar Tribune, some paramedicals in rural areas are threatening to leave due to the affects the job has on their personal life. This would leave some without emergency health care. Other core values include political views and economy stability. These values can be seen in stories about mining, political leaders and export goods. America’s core values do include politics and the economy, but they are not the only two.
Picture books are a big part of a child’s life. They make the reading experience fun and a time to look forward too. They help children explore the world with their imagination and connect with characters and events. They also provide joy and comfort. Picture books show their meaning in a very unique way. They use verbal and visual text to relate to the world. Both verbal and visual text work together in synchrony to narrate the story. Meaning represented in this way invites the reader to attend to both in order to make sense of the story. Revisiting and old picture book is like revisiting an old friend.
A good picture book becomes a joy to the children forever and something that catches the, eye, the ear, and the understanding of children. From having a good relationship between reading and yourself at a young age, it encourages further reading and forms the basis for becoming a literate adult, one who decodes words accurately but also reads for enjoyment and takes time out to do so. It is true that the best picture books are warm and humorous however, they do not have to be both at the same time. A picture book is at its best when it at least has some sense of warm or humorous elements.
“The main art of storytelling is knowing arouse emotion, and that the child is attracted by the narrative details or illustration” (Davim 4668). (This quote could be used in this paragraph and/or my one about illustrations). When a narrator tells a story to children they should be engaging in order to catch their attention and draw them into the story rather than away. “The picture book genre is filled with the musical attributes of poetic prose and poetry” (Heald 230). By Dr. Seuss writing in this style it keeps readers focused and also introduces them to a new style of writing.
In the movie of Gojira, Japan was thrown into a panic state after several cases of fishing and military boat reported missing mysteriously. Military officials suspected the missing might due to sea mine or underwater volcanic activity. Somewhere near the ships were sink, named Odo Island, villagers reported the appearance of a 164 foot tall monster.
The protagonist of this book is Ben he is the main character who is fought against the tsunami that was killing and sabotaging Ben and his brothers visit to Japan. Ben was the oldest child, very brave, and loved to play basketball. ‘’They’d been at the basketball courts across from their house” (Tarshis 21). The antagonist of the story is the tsunami because the tsunami was fighting against the protagonist, Ben and causing harm to his family. The Japanese Tsunami, was a magnitude-9 savage earthquake that shook Japan. “The tsunami had destroyed towns and cities all around Ben and his family.” (Tarshis 56)
I chose to read and comment on Barbara Kiefer’s “Envisioning Experience: The Potential of Picture Books.” Kiefer’s main point in writing this essay was to get the message across that children enjoy picture books that allow them to identify and make connections with the characters or the plots, and that while reading and analyzing the pictures, they gain a better sense of aesthetics and how to interpret them.
‘What connections did you find between poems studied this year and what links can you make between the world of your poets and your world?’
The narratorś backstory is tragic. To simplify it, his home town was undergoing a typhoon, he and his best friend K had decided to travel down to the beach while they had been in the eye of the storm. While they were scavenging the beach the narrator described it as “ strange “. “I do recall that my voice sounded strange to me, as though it belonged to someone else”( Murakami 137). As he had watched a wave start to form his first instinct was to run.
The head, ear, eyes, nose, and throat (HEENT) are common sources of complaints seen amongst pediatric patients, particularly during the winter season, and the flu season. The common infections involving the HEENT are pharyngitis, strep throat, rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis media and externa, and conjunctivitis. The American Academy of Pediatrics (2013), has suggested the route of treatment that practitioners should elect when treating these conditions. It is suggested that no antibiotics be prescribed unless the provider is certain that the person has an infection; they recommend that no antibiotics be given to patients with clear discharge and who are afebrile (AAP, 2013). In an effort to decrease antibiotic resistance and as per the AAP (2013) recommendations, I
So you see, pictures, even in books help minds to develop each time you take a glance at them. You gain that freedom in your mind and can grow and expand to photography, galleries, museums, and even creations of your own personal art... the possibilities seem endless. I would conclude that picture books are helpful to people of all ages, especially the minds of children. Will you ever look at books the same
