In Pig Happinesso, Lynne McFall writes five types of pig happiness. They are the “happy” idiot, the incompetent bottlecap collector, the deluded fool, the successful immoralist, and the impossible idealist. The author finally talks about that we can not use our own standard to judge others happiness are good or not, because happiness is just a report of someone’s own mind. I really agree with the author’s opinion, because I think happiness is actually “all the small things in life that makes us happy”. (Klopatra, 2012) Last class, our teacher asked everyone in my class to describe “happiness” in one sentence. For me, without thinking, I said happiness meant that I got A from that class. It was no doubt that everybody laughed after hearing that. I have to say that I was trying to make everyone feel happy at that moment, because I think sometimes this kind of pig happiness is also a happiness, and at least this kind of “poor thing is happy” (McFall, p.411). …show more content…
That is your happiness may make others feel sad or others may think your happiness “could not be truly happy”. (McFall, p.411) To be completely honest, I was not a good student before I came to the United States. For me, happiness was that I could sleep well until I woke up even I was already late. Happiness was that I could play my cellphone at anytime, even in class. Happiness also meant that I had no homework. That was a really silly thinking that I had before, because I did not notice that all the things I did that I thought could bring me happiness would made my parents and teachers feel sad and
A person’s happiness can have an impact on others. People can get agitated because a group or individual is at peace or sons and daughter can be happy as a result of witnessing their parents being content. Delightment is capable of encouraging expansion of one’s knowledge. For instance, if one realizes their potential in achieving greatness in a certain subject, the satisfaction could lead to desiring to draw in more knowledge, knowing the greatness that individual can achieve. Someone who is depressed doesn’t have the motivation to achieve something positive. There are people that misinterpret or have a negative pleasure and peace of mind. That’s the incredible potential happiness
Happiness can be two things; fulfilling or misleading. One of the best things in the world
When I approached this statement I pondered for quite a bit. It was a bit depressing. Happiness should be exactly what it says being happy. For me, there was a period that happiness did not exist and when I reflect about this period its becomes overwhelming. This chapter in my life was dark and didn’t think that I could ever truly be happy again. With that being said, happiness to me is peace of mind,
People travel through life with what seems like a single goal: to be happy. This may seem like a selfish way to live, however this lone objective is the motivation behind nearly all actions. Even seemingly selfless deeds make people feel better about themselves. That warm feeling experienced while doing charitable acts can be described as happiness. But what is authentic happiness? There is an endless possibility of answers to this question, and man seems to be always searching for the solution. Although one may reach his or her goals, there is always still something one strives for in order to be happy. In the book Stumbling on Happiness, Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert takes the reader through
In Happy by Roko Belic (a 2011 documentary), “All I want is to be happy in life” was a reoccurring statement from the people in the film. A majority of people in today’s world agree with that statement. Everyone wants to be happy, but what truly defines happiness? The Happy documentary presents different things that make certain people happy, and what influences their feelings. The film does not only imply that direct message, but also paints a bigger picture for the audience. The bigger picture being: how ecology is the main factor behind people’s happiness. The director of this film combines real experiences from people around the world along with research from scientists to explain our simple emotion, happiness.
Everyone wants to be “happy.” Everyone strives to fulfill their desires for their temporary pleasure. What makes this ironic, however, is the fact that most people do not know what the factual definition of happiness is. The article “In Pursuit of Unhappiness,” written by Darrin McMahon, covers this what can be called “issue” in great detail. In this account, the problems with the modern interpretation of how to achieve this mirth are identified as well as the true approach discussed. According to Huffington Post, just one in three Americans are so-called “happy.”
People tend to feel the most happiness in their daily lives rather than happiness over all. For instance, if someone opens the door for you, does something outrageous, tells a funny story or simply reacts kindly to you, you can experience happiness. Laughing at someones joke can cause you to feel happy even for just a moment. Another definition of happiness in our daily lives is self appreciation such as, getting that new raise, getting an A on a test or even getting into the college you want. These examples all cause happiness in different but still rather large ways. We seem to think that happiness is so difficult to come by, we focus so hard on what happiness is that we don't even realize the simple things in life that are truly making a difference. We can become significantly happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it’s hard to find it’s not all that difficult. What’s hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what people truly look for.
Our internal world governs our happiness, not conditions put upon us from our external environment or conditions we place on ourselves. To put it another way, our search for happiness is the very reason we’re unhappy (McLeod, 2007). Psychology considers happiness an emotion or mental state and a predictor of how well one’s life is going. Some say that happiness is a choice, and therefore a behavior that one chooses. Happiness is a way of interpreting the world, since while it may be difficult to change the world, it is always possible to change the way we look at it (McLeod, 2007).
What is happiness? The essay, “Three Simple Things,” the author gave us the definition of happiness from Dictionary.com as "an active or passive state of pleasure or satisfaction." In his own special way, the author writes about how friends, families, and his belief in God are the things that make him happy the most. Sure people may feel their happiness is being healthy and alive. There are many things that could make me happy, but the three that make me happy the most is spending time with my three girls, being with families, and fishing.
As human beings, we all have the capability of experiencing emotions and feelings. People can experience happiness,
Happiness according to Merriam-Webster dictionary is a state of well-being and contentment. For many college graduates there is a point in their lives when they have attained some of their goals and are beginning to wonder if they are any happier. Not only do college graduates face this problem, but people all over the world. In summary, Lynne McFall explains what pig-happiness is, McFall from a philosopher point of view challenges methods and logic, and my opinion of where McFall stands.
Happiness is a result that we deserved, furthermore, it becomes a motivation for us to keep trying and getting success in life.
Recently, happiness has not been a word or feeling that I associate myself with. The hectic madness of the day-to-day chaos of navigating through life as a college student has been troublesome for my soul. My days have been filled with worries and self-doubt. It is because of these two things that I have forgotten what happiness can feel like. This assignment allowed myself to complete a self-evaluation.
Hello everybody. I'm going to show you some pictures and I want you to think about the first emotion that comes to mind. Now I'm sure these pictures made you feel sad, negative, depressed, pity, and a lot of other negative emotions. Now i'm going to show you another set of pictures and I want you to do same thing as you did with the last pictures. These pictures have been voted on and determined that these are the happiest pictures on the internet. Why you may ask? Because genetically we are all wired to like cute things such as babies or cute animals. We can use this genetic wiring to our advantage, just looking at these pictures improves your efficiency, your short-term happiness, and caught your attention better than just looking at a picture of a carrot or say one of zak’s many selfies. (Martinez-Conde). Now that i've got you attention I want you to raise your hand if you ever been taught what causes happiness, the benefits being happy has, or how to become happier.. The fact that *if everyone raises their hand pivot to something else* almost no one in this room has been taught these things is insane to me. This is telling of the ideas that we have as a society concerning happiness. What I'm trying to say is that as a culture we need to redefine happiness as something that needs to be constantly worked towards and is not something easily attainable. I'm going to start off with with talking about the problem we have with happiness. Next we're going to talk about what effects are caused by being unhappy and finally we're going to talk about ways you can become happier.
In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty-eight students and one professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question "What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional motivator for their happiness. Only the
