The loose parts that I am collecting are empty egg cartons. They can be recycled instead of being thrown in the trash when they are emptied. There are many ways that the children can use them. Some ways will probably be things that they just imagine in their mind and want to recreate. They can be used with other things in the loose parts area to create things. If the children want to use them alone they can do that too. A few ideas that I seen on Pinterest included cutting each holder apart or cutting them into groups. After they are cut the students could paint them to make an object or paint them randomly to add color to the loose parts area. One picture that I seen on Pinterest, cut them into 12 individual pieces, painted them, and used
To start the process, I easily collected all the items I needed from my kitchen cabinet and sent my 5-year-old daughter to collect the dullest pennies she could find from her piggy bank. Once the items were all gathered together on the kitchen table, I started the experiment with both my children’s eager help.
Teaching Strategies: Use the rice or sand to hide the objects, with the spoons and magnifying glasses have the kids look for the leprechaun’s gold, or find four leaf clovers.
Give each student a pre-cut hat shaped paper. Be sure to have a variety of materials to use such as paper, fabric, wrapping paper, pompoms, and tissue paper that they can glue onto their hat. This is a great way to work on fine motor skills and using scissors, have students work with paper materials first before giving them materials that they will not be able to cut with their scissors.
Lily’s and mine egg drop project was made with a plastic container, with sponges, zip ties and balloons. We put the sponges in the container a put the egg in there. We had the egg in the middle, so the egg would not move around. We put zip ties around it to keep the top on and we tied the balloons on to the zip ties, the zip ties were around the contain.
Another activity that I took part in was bubble painting. This was where I put paint in a tray and added water. Once this was mixed properly I got the children to use a straw and blow through it to make bubbles. Once the bubbles were there a piece of paper was placed over them to create a bubble effect picture. There were two different trays of which one was purple and the other one was orange. This is so that they were able to make their own choice on what colour they wanted to use.
used canning lids? The metal lids can only be used once for safety reasons. Yet, you can’t see to bring yourself to toss them. After a few seasons, you find yourself up to your ears with little metal lips. Now worries, here’s a simple craft that will upcycle those used lids into a fun, educational game for little ones.
The novel Stick Figure is the story of eleven-year old Lori Gottlieb and her family. The backdrop of her story is Beverly Hills, California in the late 1970’s where she lives and writes her diaries. All the sixth grade girls in her class are obsessed with their weight. In addition, her mother is not so subtly encouraging her to be a more “normal” eleven-year old girl whose interest should revolve around boys, makeup and shopping for new clothes. Lori, however, has a more scholastic bent. In an effort to fit in, she resolves to become “skinny”. So begins a downward spiral that almost costs her life. Societal expectations and standards of beauty portrayed in the media bulldoze this young woman, as she becomes a victim of her low self-esteem.
Are you looking for something creative to do with young kids that they will really enjoy? There are an enormous number of ideas that you can use depending on what you want to do. Something that will be super easy to make with everyday items is toilet paper roll race cars.
Also, we had some posters about the shapes and I used them to demonstrate to them. With showing the illustration and let them to touch the colourful shapes I engaged them and I let them to discuss between themselves. I asked them for this activity you should all work as a team and should look at the shapes carefully and according the sides you must put in one circle. For example, in circle 1 we have all shape with 4 sides that we call quadrilateral.
I am an arts administrator from Columbia University interested in the Registration Assistant/Department Coordinator position at MoMA PS1. I found this opportunity at the New York Foundation for the Arts. I hold an M.A in arts administration and a bachelor in visual arts and economics.
In this advertisement it shows a little girl measuring herself with a measuring tape. By looking at this image, it already outlines that we as society relay on having the perfect ideal women body, which is being thin and skinny. Society also implies that valuing body image and perfection is significant that children at a very young age are already influenced negatively growing up with a corrupted mindset. The little girl in the photo is already measuring her waistline with a measuring tape at such a young age. She is already feeling like she must be skinny to fit into society and is conscious of her size, teaching her that she must look a certain way. The issue is that in society the media has advertisements, commercials and magazines that portray standards such as women being thin, tall and skinny. This according to the Western countries is having the perfect body image. The media shows such unrealistic images to consumers such as these young girls to try to appear like these ideals that are set for them from society that potentially be harmful and unhealthy which could lead to death because of starvation leading to possible long-term health disorders such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa and nervosa. My opinion on this issue is those who are suffering with low-self esteem shouldn’t do such horrific acts like starvation or dieting just to be accepted in society because they feel too fat or they do not meet the societal standard of being perfect. Girls should relay on the “ideal
With over 2,000 adhesive elements included in the box, this makes great craft for birthday parties or art class. Because multiple children can work on a single project, Sticky Mosaics can also help teach teamwork skills. This kit also spurs awareness of one of the earth's most threatened habitats. Teachers can use the Jungle Adventure set as a spring board for talking to their children about the threatened habitat of the animals included in the box.
There are many ways in which various sized cardboards can be used in the dramatic play area to enhance children's creativity, extend play and develop skills. Cardboard boxes could become almost anything with a little imagination, and as we all know children have a big imagination and their ideas are limitless. Throughout the school year a classroom takes on many different themes as the seasons changes, and the cardboard boxes can be used to make supporting props for these themes. For example, if the theme is farm the cardboard boxes could be used to make a barn, or if the theme is chores the boxes could be used to make a washer and dryer for the dramatic play area.
There is no denying that social media: Instagram and Tumblr, has a significant influence on all of us. The current effects of social media have increased dramatically among young women aged between 15 and 25. As stated in the study by (Grabe, Ward, & Hyde, 2008) that the high exposure to social media portraying the thin-ideal body may be linked to body image disturbance in young women. They used a meta-analysis examined experimental and correlation studies testing the links between media exposure to young women's body dissatisfaction and the unconscious behavior towards having a thin ideal body. The results by (Grabe, Ward, & Hyde, 2008) support the claim that high exposure to social media images depicting the thin-ideal body is related to
Zheng He’s voyages have been a constant source of controversy in the historical world because of the differing opinions on whether they should be celebrated or not. In July of 1405, Zheng He was given the task to lead a fleet of ships for exploration. This task was assigned to him by Emperor Yongle of China’s Ming Dynasty. Over the next twenty-eight years, the Chinese Admiral, Zheng He went on seven separate voyages through the Indian and Pacific Oceans with one of the largest fleet of wooden ships in history. He navigated his massive fleet from Nanjing along the Chinese coast and through these oceans to explore new lands and bring prosperity to China. The Chinese Emperor sent Zheng He on these explorations to explore new lands, establish trade
