Pinterest is a photo sharing website and mobile application that was released in 2010. The CEO of the company, Ben Silbermann, says Pinterest is a “catalog of ideas” and the saying is now used as the company’s slogan (https://about.pinterest.com/en, 2016). “In 2012, the website became the first website in history to break through the ten million unique visitor mark and it became the 3rd largest social networking website surpassing Tagged, and LinkedIn” (Matthews, 2015). The whole idea is to show people a wide variety of things to let them try and have new experiences.
Sharing on Pinterest means creating boards that will be of interest to others. If you're purely promotional all the time, people will stop following your boards. There are group boards you can join if you are sharing interesting knowledge in your niche.
Viral videos have become wildly popular within the last decade. For some, internet fame has become a blessing. On the other hand, others have been shamed due to their viral videos. In “The Flip Side of Internet Fame” by Jessica Bennet, she makes her case on the undesirable effects of social media. Bennet uses a few of the many viral victims as examples to demonstrate what social media can do. Social media humiliates, violates privacy, and has long-term effects on the lives of the viral victims.
The book, I Know Who You Are and I Know What You Did, by Lori Andrews, states that social network as in Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, Snapchat, and etc. causes conflict in many aspects of life. In today society, social media seems to reveal more a more negative side of the public. Andrews also states that social media is a distraction to every aspect of life including job careers, education, politics, religion, family, and even death. Invading privacy on social media and violating rights of others can cause disturbing commotion and could lead to prosecution. People should use discretion when posting online, and make sure not to post anything purposely offensive or distasteful and graphic content.

About a month ago while scrolling through Pinterest, a pin caught my eye. To be honest I admit quite a few pins catch my eye. My daughter, Christy, thought Pinterest would be a good fit for me and it was. I was soon smitten. Obsessing over Pinterest, I spent hours scrolling and pinning, scrolling and pinning, day after day, month after month, thoroughly getting a kick out of my new-found passion.
From the great rise of the internet to the proliferation of smartphones, technology has been unquestionably instrumental in increasing our access to information. However, the vast sea of information available online can be quite overwhelming at times. Serving content relevant to the user is a critical step between content and experience that many products simply do not pay enough attention to. The best products are those that adapt to their users; products like Pinterest that leverage a variety of algorithms to tailor themselves to the user are certain to emanate higher levels of emotion. Pinterest’s mission in helping people around the world discover and do the things they love is undoubtedly a bold one, but it’s one that I have immense interest
I chose Pinterest for this project because it is a social media platform that I hear about often among my friends, primarily my female friends. In addition, I have often heard of the proven benefits of vision boards and that Pinterest is an online version of these. I am also a very organized person so I think Pinterest will be a great tool to organize my interests in an efficient and aesthetically pleasing manner.

Not only is it an important part of socialization within peer groups but now it is used to market and motivate people to become a part of a larger community. It is undeniably changing the way one communicates and how one finds and shares information. Social media can be defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or participate in social networking. As a phenomenon of only the past couple of decades, it has certainly changed the way we live our everyday lives. Whether socially or professionally, it opens the door to incredible amounts of information; most of which is freely shared.
Social media. We have all heard of it. We have all raved about it at some point in our lives. There is no doubt; it plays an imperative part of people’s lives today – users are reliant on social media. It is great that Mark Zuckerberg reminds us to say, “Happy Birthday” to our friends. Yet, we have all seen the dangers it can cause. From identity fraud to cyberbullying - we become exposed to the dangers of the internet. Not only is it hackers and frauds that cause destruction, but social networking posts. Every day, you scroll through Facebook, or Instagram - liking, sharing and commenting on posts. What people don’t see is how words on a ‘status’ or ‘tweet’ can hurt someone. They can’t see that a person’s feelings behind the screens on a computer have been destroyed, because they can’t see what they don’t want to see.
