Even though file sharing can spread the word on any media and increase its popularity, online piracy should be regulated and stopped to support the maker of the source. Piracy is stealing content from the makers and the entertainment industry loses billions of dollars each year due to piracy. The economy takes a huge blow from piracy. The people who make the movies come to life lose jobs. Over 750,000 jobs have been lost due to online piracy. That’s 71,060 jobs a year. This includes technicians, editors, producers, camera operators, and many more. These people make up 2.4 million employees of the entertainment industry. If more people don’t see these movies in the theaters, the business may go extinct. All the money the movies make does not go to the theaters. They make all their money from popcorn and drinks. If people stay home and watch the movie illegally, not only does the people who make the movie lose money but the theater also loses money and more business go out of business. If we 're losing so much money from these pirates, how much piracy is there. That’s a very hard question to answer because there is so much. It’s like counting ants; the figures are so small. A lot of companies use the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) statistics. They 're not perfect but they work for research purposes. It seems obvious that most pirates are located in countries where there are computers and internet access. These locations are most likely in developed countries like the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Tracking what is uploaded onto sites is possible but is difficult. Networks called peer-to-peer networks track uploads but are slowing dying because of legal issues and the shutdown of websites like Megaupload and RapidShare. Copying media does not also happen on the internet. Simply putting media on hard drives, cds, flash drives and handing them to people is not trackable unless you 're caught by law
