Pitbulls are said to be a very dangerous breed, and some people say we should sterilize all of them. Pitbulls are dangerous and used for the wrong reasons, and they need to be sterilized. Is it really worth it to throw away lives so we can save only one dog breed? Not only that, but nothing is being done about it. After all the deaths of children and adults, how long will it take for the government to ban them?
Pitbulls should be sterilized because they are very dangerous. A 2011 study from the Annals of Surgery revealed that attacks by pit bulls are associated with higher morbidity rates, higher hospital charges, and a higher risk of death than are attacks by other breeds of dogs. (Lallanilla Para. 7) This tells us that this breed of dog is very different than others. They also regularly rate near the top of the league tables of dog attacks in NSW by the Department of Local Government. Even though they only make up 6% of the dog population, they cause more than half of dog attacks. (It’s Time Para. 5) These statistics just do not add up. Pitbulls have been selected and breeded for their fighting ability. They were bred to be more athletic and agile for fighting other dogs. (Position Para. 3-4) Pitbulls were purposely bred for fighting and then adopted as family pets. This is not safe for they still have their instincts to attack and kill. Pitbulls aren't only used for dog fighting, but also against people. For example, a gang was using a pitbull to terrorize small children, and when someone tried to stand up to them, they stabbed him four times.
