Pitt County Health Department mission is to protect, promote, and assure the health of all people in Pitt County. This agency has several programs and classes to educated and serve the community. During my internship they provided several opportunities for me to teacher classes and work with the members of the community. Another strength about this agency is that every health educator is passionate about what they do when serving and educating the community. Throughout my internship they have provided me with several teaching opportunities. I’ve also attended meeting and conducted research for two grants. I have been given many opportunities to help others and make an impact in Johnson City through organizations like the Family Medicine Interest Group at ETSU, serving as the coordinator for student involvement in free clinics. I have also been able to make an impact through medicine in Cleveland, TN by way of the Good Samaritan Clinic. This is a free clinic in downtown Cleveland that I have been volunteering at for the past seven years. I have also been directly involved in the start-up of the Just Care clinic in Mountain City, TN, a medical student ran free clinic in rural Appalachia. I was also been able to spend time in rural Guatemala with a medical team from my undergraduate university helping diagnose, treat, and care for patients whom receive little to no regular healthcare. From my own first hand experiences in both Guatemala and my time spent in the Just Care and Good Samaritan Clinics, I have seen the impact that an inadequate health care system can have on a population. I hope to use my medical and public health training in areas that do not have adequate access to health

Thank you for reaching out to Dallas County Health and Human Services(DCHHS). In response to your inquiry, DCHHS is unaware of an increased incidence of Tuberculosis among Square Cottage residents. In the event as such, DCHHS would not disclose a specific location due to medical confidentiality and personal privacy reasons. Overall, DCHHS has shown that the number of annual TB cases have decreased by 37% from 1993 to 2015 in Dallas County. In regards to homelessness specifically, I can confirm the proportion of TB cases occurring in persons experiencing homelessness has increased since 2014. Please note, homeless individuals are disproportionately affected by Tuberculosis in Dallas County as well as the United States. In an effort
With an internship at Kane County Health Department, I hope to gain a better understanding of the different aspects of Public Health and County government. My goals include to learn and hopefully be part of the process of investigating and preventing the spread of communicable diseases. Being a sophomore at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville I am currently studying how to apply theories to programs. And I believe that this internship will serve as a great way to apply what I have learned in my classes. I am also very interested in the process of educating the community and raising awareness. I am currently volunteering for the Southern

I also have an extensive training in working with local agencies. The spring semester of my sophomore year, I began volunteering at the Cedar Valley Hospice for approximately 20 hours a month. I was trained in the following areas: Patient/Family, Grief, and Cedar AIDS Support System (CASS) services. Through my work at the CASS, I was responsible for making contacts with a variety of other agencies on the behalf of my clients, such as the Black Hawk County Health Department, Operation Threshold, and the Cedar Valley NAMES Project. In this capacity, I did office work, I was a buddy to an HIV positive individual, and I did face-to-face education panels in local school and community settings. I was also extensively involved in training future buddies. It was during this time period that I completed the American Red Cross course work for certification as an HIV/AIDS educator. In this capacity, I have been a guest speaker in several elementary school and college courses about HIV/AIDS. The

My management topic will be on the Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPH) and the service of environmental health. The reason for the selection of the ICPHD in the section of their health promotion is because the department has a variety of services and great informational structure to give to the public. I would like to emphasize three core areas such as advocacy, quality assurance, democratic advocacy and citizen participation where ICPHD has done well.
The HPLP trains individuals about policy solutions to address health disparities among racial and socioeconomic groups. The training also builds internal capacity and professional relationships within the Central Valley to support the efforts to address health equity problems. My supervisor invited me to apply for HPLP. Since being accepted into the program, I have completed readings and met with other staff who previously attended the trainings. I am working with these workers to evaluate a survey created. During the first class, I connected workers in the region, contributed to the discussions, and recorded notes. I will be working closely with a manager at the department to create a project for San Joaquin County.
