My assignment is to write a critique paper on the facility named “Planet Fitness”. Planet Fitness is a gym that labels itself rather as a “fitness club” that aspires people of all ages, weights and heights to come and hit the gym. Planet Fitness promises a judgement free environment, allowing for even your most introvert and shy gym goers to enjoy their workout without feeling self-conscious because of other gym attendee’s opinions. On the workout floor, their facilities are equipped with mostly cardio machines, with some weight machines and an abdominal exercise area. Within the locker rooms, they come well equipped for serving mass amounts of gym goers at a time. The locker rooms include showers, sinks, and toilets, urinals in the male locker …show more content…
Since Planet Fitness has strict rules on slamming or dropping any weights, the machines have such a smooth motion when being used. All of the stationary machines feel brand new even though they have been within the facility for over a year. All of the cable machines feel as if they just came off of the production line. The cables run so smoothly through each lifting, pulling and pushing motion allowing full possible contraction of the target muscle. Another amazing feature about Planet Fitness is the cleanliness of the entire facility. All machines and benches are whipped down immediately after use as required by gym policy, creating a cleaner environment. The locker rooms are always properly maintained and cleaned constantly, making gym goers feel better about the idea of using the restroom, lockers and the shower. My final personal favorite was the attitude and helpfulness of the staff, always ready to help when help is …show more content…
The biggest flaw that I believe planet fitness possesses is the fact that they live by the policy “do not cater to body builders,” so that they can create the dream of a “judgement free zone”. I am about to put a huge hole into the logic of this policy. There is no such thing as “judgment free”. Judgement and opinion are natural processing agents within the human mind. Everyone judges everyone whether it is acknowledged that they are doing so or not. Also, if it’s a “judgment free” zone, how come the gym is full of illustrations and slang words directed towards a stereotypical bodybuilder? Planet Fitness is being judgmental their selves. By keeping to this policy, Planet Fitness is not only making itself the laughing stock of the fitness industry, but it is also losing a large, plentiful amount of potential customers. Now that I’ve gotten that flaw out of the way, my second biggest frustration with Planet Fitness is the food and candy the facility offers. When people sign up for the gym, they are also signing a personal contact with their selves to be a better, heathier version of their selves. This process involves not only working out, but it also involves dieting, creating a balanced meal plan based on their goals, and being able to say no to eating poorly all the time and instead
Everyone knows how important exercise is for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but for most people, the gym can be an intimidating place. There are copious machines and options, which makes it hard to develop a routine that will work for you.
Over the course of my observations of McComas Gym’s weight room, it was easy to figure out what type of audience would be interested in my essay. Based off this audience, I developed a persona who represents the weight room community by combining many of the characteristics I observed in individuals in the weight room. My developed persona is an ideal representative of an “insider” to the weight room community, as well as a representative of my essay’s audience.
Upon arrival, I estimated about 15-20 personal scattered throughout the room on various body equipment. I noticed that I was the youngest person there; everyone else (by the looks) was ranging from late 20’s to early 50’s. The first significant aspect that I always realize is that there are more males than females, typically a 4:1 ratio. The diversity of race/ethnicity was noticeable but not really a concern towards the atmosphere of the gym. Before I started the observations I did run on the treadmill so that the gym visit wasn’t a total waste. Afterwards, my observation was done in the corner with the mats, while I stretched for twenty-five minutes.
After the pleasure of being a guest for a week at your facility, a current yearly member would encourage the possibility of others to become a member themselves. With the countless amenities that are offered at your facility, which includes but is not limited to the multiple saunas, Olympic lifting platforms, and the locker rooms that are equipped with showers, lockers, and changing rooms these would entice any guest to consider their wants and needs.
I have attained information about the different plans that the industry offers and gained knowledge about their goals for a judgement free gym. I have worked in the customer service industry for the last 5 years. Therefore I have gained the ability to work with a variety of personality types. I know how to directly converse with essentially anyone who comes my way. I will be able to combine my background in fitness with my pristine customer service ability to ensure that every single person I work with feels motivated to succeed and receive quality

The way they humanist would ask questions about being in a gym like setting are; Why does Planet Fitness look the way it is? What is the logo to Planet Fitness? Why are the main colors purple and gold? What type of machines do they have? They are playing music in the background what type of music is it? They have cold beverages, what kind? I notice that the staffs have two different uniforms staff and trainer why? WHY?
Fitness is in. The percentage of people belonging to health clubs and gyms has doubled over the past 20 years. More growth is expected, fueled by an aging Baby Boomer generation in search of eternal youth and the reality that regular exercise can prevent or control diseases that are driving health care costs relentlessly upward. The 24/7 fitness opportunity is the newest model of fitness centers today.
The small town of Rapid City, South Dakota has a population of nearly 71,000 residents. The main employer to Rapid City is home to roughly 3,500 military veterans located at Ellsworth Air Force Base. When the term ‘military’ comes to mind, an assortment of words come to mind. Deployment. Family. War. Aircraft. To some though, the word fitness comes to mind first. Everyone knows that in order to be a member of the United States military, you must be fit. Every member of the Armed Forces know that they can be called upon at any time to perform an assortment of tasks, and being physically fit is a priority. Nearly every military base has a gym or fitness facility, but who wants to visit the base after hours to work out? How often do you catch yourself watching the clock, waiting for the hour hand to strike four so that you can check out for the day? Because of this, fitness facilities throughout the city is a hot topic amongst military veterans. Towards the end of 2015, Rapid City was home to three small-scale fitness centers. Because of the lack of choices, of course it made sense to charge steep prices. In December of 2015, that all changed with the arrival of Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness, founded in 1992, focused on reducing prices to compete against the other well-known brands. The organization is an American health and wellness franchise that focuses on a casual, yet personal, gym experience with no judgment or discomfort. Their ‘no judgment’ attitude
Collectively, recreation centers or gyms have had an impact upon several collective lives, effecting our sociological imagination. As an example, a whole new
Psychographic profile for customers most likely to use the gym’ s services: (Min. 200 words required)
I moved through the process of selecting the right gym to join quite quickly as I was very motivated to get started. I took into consideration that this purchase posed physical and social problems and considered those when making my decision.
There are two Planet Fitness locations in the Monroe area. The gym that is open 24 hours, 7 days a week is located at 1205 Lamy Ln. A second location with more limited hours of operation is located at 119 Constitution Dr. The gym is designed to be a place for the average fitness consumer, which totals 85% of the population in the United States (Morell, 2015). Planet Fitness does not specifically cater to the extreme fitness guru’s or body builders. The company’s mission statement involves creating a unique and comfortable environment where building an active lifestyle can be achieved. The company is based out of New Hampshire and opened its first location in 1992. However, the gym did not see major growth until 2003 when it made the decision to franchise. Planet Fitness has now grown to include over 1,000 locations and claims to have more than 7
Although fitness centers and gyms may appear to be a place to break a sweat and work out with the intention of not being seen without makeup and in grungy clothes, this may not be the case, in particular when it comes to college gyms. Contrary to the findings Tamara L. Black displayed in her dissertation for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from the University of California in Los Angeles, in which she depicts the situation of the classical fitness center as exercise dominated, after observations made while participating in the Boston College Recreational Complex, fitness centers may be more heavily focused on expressing sexual and social relations than for health related issues. Although she does not elaborate on this view
He has defined fitness in a meaningful, measurable way; increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. CrossFit itself is defined as that which optimizes fitness through constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. CrossFit is also the community that arises when people do these workouts together. In fact, the communal aspect of CrossFit is a key component of why it’s so effective.
