When I was only 15 years old, a close friend of mine got pregnant. After spending a few days talking it over with her parents and now ex-boyfriend, she elected to have an abortion. At first I was totally appalled that she had reasoned to kill her newborn child. “How could someone find it so easy to take away another life?” I thought. Now, three years older and more mature me is finally able to process the reasoning behind not keeping the child.
The amount of care a newborn child needs is immense, in some cases this is like a full-time job. Parents who are not able to give this nurturing to their child negatively affect the overall well-being of the child. Most emotional and psychological problems arise from the way a child was taken care of from birth all the way through adolescence. However, not every pregnant woman is able to provide for her child due to finances, relationship stability, age, living conditions or

Little do most people know is that Planned Parenthood offers many other services such as contraception, STI testing, and cancer screenings. Recently, this organization was defunded by the government. I believe that the government should work with Planned Parenthood in making abortions legal for the first three-weeks after fertilization. This gives expecting mothers a chance for choice without affecting the ethicality of aborting a live fetus. Also, this would help to decrease the need for black market abortion specialists that are arising from the defunding. With abortion being legal for a set amount of time, these specialists won’t lose their jobs and would not have to go under the table to find work.
Ultimately, the choice of whether a mother should be forced to keep a child that does not want or cannot care for should be up to the mother until three-weeks after fertilization. After three-weeks’ time, the fetus is alive and should not be cut short of a life due to its
However, there are also hidden motives that Mrs. Black doesn’t mention in her reasoning for supporting the bill. For instance, out of the top 5 industries that donated money towards her campaign, 4 of them were in the health service industry (OpenSecrets.org - Diane Black). If this bill would have passed and Planned Parenthood would have been defunded for a year or indefinitely, this would have benefitted Black’s top donors. This is the case because nearly 80% of the women who use Planned Parenthood’s services had incomes at or below the federal poverty level, and “27% of all women in the United States who obtain contraceptive services do so at publicly funded health centers” such as Planned Parenthood (Goldschmidt and Strickland, 2015). Since
It is complacent to think one can obey the law in order for society to progress. The state should never be looked at as a metric for ethics. One can observe history to understand that. Freedom is a constant struggle that involves grassroot movements, collectivization and solidarity of the communities. The people must liberate themselves and cannot expect oppressors to relinquish their rights. One can see these concepts in movements throughout history.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz believes that leaders are lying about wanting to defund Planned Parenthood, or PPFA. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization centered on helping those with sex education and healthcare. There are many misconceptions about Planned Parenthood that people like Ted Cruz are not willing to look into. Shutting down the healthcare organization could greatly affect adults and youths all over America. If Cruz were successful in shutting down Planned Parenthood, millions of people would be without any form of healthcare, millions of women would no longer have the option of free health exams, and the United States’ youths could be at risk because many of them would live in ignorance about their health.
On Friday November 27 a man by the name of Robert Lewis Dear,57 went to a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs.Killing three people and injuring nine people. He is accused of killing a police officer and two civilians. He talked about “baby parts” and said his thoughts on abortion. He did this deed alone,in the past he has had several run ins’ with the law in 1997 his wife accused him of domestic assault in 2003 he was charged with two counts of animal cruelty but was found not guilty. He is likely to face first degree murder. He had a duffel bag with hand guns inside. He surrendered that day but it took six hours just to do so. His hearing is for Dec 9 and the filling for the charges will be done then.
Throughout research and surveys professionals have supported the idea of making birth control available to all women. In “Planned Parenthood: Ideas for the 1980s” Carl W. Tyler proposes his four ideas for Planned Parenthood. His four ideas are reproductive choice, reproduction free of risk, the quality of parenting, and freedom from harm. Carl is a physician specializing in gynecology and in obstetrics for 15 years. His idea of “All individuals of reproductive age should be free to determine the number and timing of their pregnancies if they choose to have any.” Carl’s argument helps me justify my argument of making birth control available to any woman of any age. The next source I came across is by John Thomas, John is a senior editor at
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that does research into and gives advice on contraception, family planning, and reproductive problems. Recently Planned Parenthood has had controversy for many pro-life members creating videos that pro-life members have altered to making many believe Planned Parenthood organizations harvest and sell fetal body parts, and give abortions when they women are too late during their pregnancy. While Planned Parenthood has showed how they are federally funded, where money comes from to support their organization, and how pro-life members falsely accused them of harvesting and selling fetal parts many are still concerned. Do to recent controversy that Planned Parenthood has harvested and sold fetal body parts many believe Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be supported but, considering the accommodating services offered by Planned Parenthood it should remain federally funded. Planned Parenthood should remain federally funded because of their accommodating services, promoting research and technology in reproductive health care,
Planned Parenthood provides sexual and reproductive health care, education, information, and outreach to about five million men, women, and teens all across the globe in one year (Planned Parenthood 2014). The organization primarily focuses on high-quality service and affordable care for its clients. More than 10 million activists, supporters, and donors work toward women’s health, safety, and security of Planned Parenthood. Although the number of the supporters may be high, there are also many criticizers. Both sides test the stabilization of the organization all around the United States. From the time Planned Parenthood has been opened to the present, the organization has been closing its doors due to defunding and new laws being set in place.
Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides healthcare and education to both men and women, having over 650 health centers that provide healthcare to countless communities around the world. Shockingly, 78% of those who use Planned Parenthoods services live at or below 150% of the federal poverty line, showing how important this organization is to low-income families (Topulos, Greene, Drazen). Their mission statement is “A Reason for Being”, which is shown through their efforts to provide health care, advocate public policies, create educational programs, and endorse research. There are those who do not believe Planned Parenthood should be funded by the government, though, due to the fact that they provide abortions to women in need. Studies show that the effects of not having Planned Parenthood available are disastrous, causing low-income families to lack a healthcare provider and the number of those who are infected with STD’s and STI’s to rise. The biggest concern communities have about the government defunding Planned Parenthood is the effects that it would have on low-income families who would no longer have access to something that many people take for granted: health care. Although many believe that Planned Parenthood mostly provides abortions, in reality, only 3% of the people that seek help from them receive an abortion, while 97% receive affordable and, in many cases,
There are over 650 Planned Parenthood health centers across the United States, yet not everyone will receive the help they need. Planned Parenthood has been helping women take care of their bodies and take control of their lives since 1916. For so many people, topics like birth control and abortion are taboo and this should not be an acceptable way to live. This world is so new and needs to be a place where women can make decisions about their bodies without concern or judgement from others. Despite all Planned Parenthood does to help not only women, but everyone who walks through their doors, many people wish to shut it down. Defunding Planned Parenthood would do nothing but harm the United States.
Millions of women across America will struggle to receive the medical attention they need if the federal government stops funding to Planned Parenthood. Every year 363 million dollars goes into the funding “pot” collectively at Planned Parenthood’s nationwide (Clark 5). This money is used predominantly by women; for six in ten women, Planned Parenthood acts as their main source of health care (Clark 4). Many individuals with low incomes depend on these clinics to maintain or help better their health. Recently, the federal government is trying to pass the Pence Amendment, which would eliminate funding to these institutions. The federal government needs to realize how important Planned Parenthood
Before I made the account for the fundraiser, I emailed the website to ask question on how to help raise money for Planned Parenthood and when I received information back it was kind of shocking. Since, I emailed them to ask how I could help they respond back politely, but the shocking part was being told I could not use the name to try and raise money for Planned Parenthood. In result, that makes it a lot hard for me to get people to donate without being able to tell them the topic of my graduation project. In conclusion, I realize that it is really hard to raise money for my graduation project without telling them fullness of what the money is going to which might make it a problem in the end.
Planned Parenthood has always been a controversial topic because of the many services they perform for their patients. The most controversial topic is abortion, but Planned Parenthood additionally provides substantial health care, birth control, STD prevention and treatment, etc. for patients who do not have access to or cannot afford actual health care. Due to the amount of people who receive treatment in Planned Parenthood, it should not be defunded so that the people who use it as their only option are not left without health care and the economy can benefit from the money they raise from Planned Parenthood’s services. Defunding Planned Parenthood can also lead to issues revolving around the rural areas where they are centered, as well as the economy as a whole.
Just imagine a 17 year old girl sitting on her bathroom floor. She is staring at this plastic stick that is now going to determine her choices for the rest of her life. The little plus sign causes her stomach to tense up and her throat to choke up. Who will help her? Who will pay for the food her and her baby need? Who is the father? Will she finish high-school and go to college? How will her parents react? This young girl has a choice that will have major impact on her life no matter what she decides. What if she was able to decide when and how she wanted these decisions/questions to come up? That young girl isn’t the only girl thinking about this choice; actually thousands of girls are. The United States has the highest teenage pregnancy rate among developed countries. 800,000 of unintended pregnancies a year with 400,000 live births (Yang). Within the years 2006 and 2007 the birth rate for adolescents aged 15-19 increased by 4%. Luckily within the last 10 years recent policy changes have decreased these shocking rates. These policy changes include the defunding of abstinence-only education programs and the availability of over the counter emergency contraception to women of all ages. The most recent policy change was Obama’s new Title X rule. This new rule refuses the states from withholding Title X federal family planning money from patients that include political and religious reasons. In summary, it means that states
It could be argued that as the child could not possibly survive independently of the mother, at least before approximately four months into the pregnancy, it is not yet an independent human being, but an attachment of the mother, therefore she should be allowed to terminate it, if this is what she wants to do to herself, as opposed to when the child is physically independent of the mother, when any potentially life ending action against it would be inflicted upon the child directly, not its mother (Kellough 35).
The topic covered in this research paper is abortion. This paper looks into the history of abortion, the pro-life view of abortion and the pro-choice view of abortion. Under history of abortion the information included is the time line of significant events of abortion such as becoming legal, also different ways in ancient times women would try to use abortions. The upgrading of technology making abortion safer and even if abortion was illegal women would still find a way to abort a baby are also covered under the history of abortion. Under pro-life choice for abortion looks into abortion murder, the rights of human and the rights of the unborn and that a women doesn't have a right to terminate her own fetus. Under pro- choice
