I have always had an interest in plant based diets and good health. I would like to obtain a degree in plant-based nutrition while at the same time obtain a degree in mechanical engineering. First, I want to be challenged beyond the traditional boundaries and learn in depth the various chronic diseases billions of citizens today encounter today and why they encounter them, so I can prevent those diseases myself and help other citizens prevent them. Second, I have always had a passion for assisting individuals regardless of who they are or how they treat me. When I see an individual in poor health, I feel bad for them and cry on the inside since I know how being in detrimental health feels and it is not pleasing. In middle school and until sophomore
This article was to examine how the US government uses dietary guidelines for Americans and how the guidelines were supposed to help us eat and stay healthy. Diet and chronic diseases are sometimes connected. For example, it is proven that nutrient deficiency disease like scurvy can be cured by consuming the lost nutrients. However, it is also shown that some nutrient exposure can cause chronic illness such as energy, fats, sodium dietary fiber, and food exposures, etc. making it difficult to set dietary guidelines. In addition to some nutrient causing chronic diseases, nondietary factors such as stress, lack of exercise, smoking and other environmental factors are linked to causing chronic illnesses (Slavin, 2012).
I chose the NutriGrain commercial. In this advertisement, a business woman is presented two options to eat. She can either choose a NutriGrain bar, or a doughnut. The screen then splits vertically in two to compare how her day progressed based on what she decided to eat at the beginning at the commercial. On the left side of the screen, the woman chooses to eat the doughnut. On the right, she eats the NutriGrain bar. As the woman’s day progresses, the split screen serves to show the woman who ate the NutriGrain bar makes healthier choices than the version of her who ate the doughnut. As the commercial continues, a woman is voicing over the commercial, saying “one good decision, can lead to another”. At the end of the commercial, the viewer is reminded of the ingredients in the bar that make it healthy and that eating a NutriGrain bar can “make you feel better all day”.
Writing down what you eat for three days shows you more about your diet then most would think. The paper, and 3 day diet diary we did was to help show us what we need to consume more of, less of, what we need to cut out of are diet, and lastly what we need to add to be a healthy individual. Wiley Plus was used to really show the breakdown of what we eat. I simply put what I wrote on paper into the Wiley food journal, wich furthermore puts everything into the catagories, and sections for you, wich was very helpful. I overall hoped my results would be decent, or average. The results I recieved were simply what I expected.
I have studied human biosciences and nutrition within my health science diploma/degree; both of these have brought me valuable skills and knowledge to succeed in this role.
There is an understood social order and staying in one’s place retains balance and order in a community or even a country. The leaders at the top are recognized to be equipped with great minds, worthy of the peoples trust, and strong enough to make the unpopular decisions. These substantial men in all their glory sit atop a mountain out of reach to the common man. Never would we encounter them misusing their power for personal gain or to act under the confines of tradition that no longer serve society justly. In the crucible the Puritans of Salem trust their divinely appointed ministers to sweep away the evil among them. The devout and loyal colonists wouldn’t expect the guardian ministers to become the very evil they were set upon crushing. In the case that the conductor stumbles off their intended path this error may be caught when it is too late. The train is gaining speed consuming more and more fuel and amassing raw power. One cannot stop the train to question its new and controversial path. In Good Night and Good Luck nuclear warfare could become reality at any moment. America’s worst fear and most hated enemy is the communist. Junior senator McCarthy takes this opportunity to be the gallant defender of The Union. Common sense says anyone engaging in criticizing him must be a communist and an enemy of the state. Contrary to this type of defense logic is the possibility the procommunist critic is actually the voice of reason and truth that America desperately needs to
When I was growing up I was taught how to hunt, fish and trap animals for food as well as being fed an omnivorous diet, but today I have found that I no longer need animals in my diet. The Vegetarian Times recently found that out of the 311 million people in the US, 7.3 million eat a vegetarian based diet and 22.8 million eat a vegetarian inclined diet. Over the past century people have begun looking into the health implications of plant based diets as a way of improving their health and increase their longevity. This research paper is intended
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously
My educational goals are attending a four year university getting a bachelors degree in science with a minor in chemistry. Throughout my time in university I would also like to become a certified Phlebotomist and EKG technician. With obtaining my bachelors in science and minor in chemistry this will be a step towards my final education goal in applying to a master program to become a Physician Assistant. Being able to understand and know health scientific problems has been a lifelong goal of mines helping people to know more about what they can do to prevent or become better has always been my
In this essay, I will discuss Ancient Egyptian art works from the Old Kingdom. The Old Kingdom, the first of these periods, was the strongest in terms of the centralization of the government. “During the Old Kingdom sculptors created the earliest portraits of individuals and the first life size statutes in wood, copper, and stone” (Heilbrunn). I will examine a double portrait “The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu” from the fourth dynasty. Memi and his Wife Sabu symbolize royalty.
A critical discussion on how a plant-based diet extends the life expectancy of those with existing cardiovascular diseases.
I am seeking a dietetic internship at California State University Fresno, to continue my journey in dietetics. At first, obtaining a college education meant more than just assuring a better future but breaking the chain in a long line of poverty and illiteracy. As my mother was a single parent and immigrant to the United States with less than a first grade education, her desire to have a better life for me has always been present. Being a first generation Mexican-American and the first in my family to graduate college, I consider myself privileged to have the opportunities my parents never had. Although, I did not know it at the time, my journey in dietetics started after high school. I was fortunate at such a young age to work in a convalescent home as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). While caring for the residents, I discovered an innate need to care for others. I gained as much from them as they did from me. As a CNA, I
When I started my college journey I wasn’t sure how, but I knew I wanted to help people. After completing a nutrition course and I was amazed by the impact that nutrition has on the human body. It was then when I decided to pursue a career in Dietetics, I wanted mycareer to be applicable to my personal life. because I wanted to study something that would be applicable to my daily life. My family has struggled with Hypertension and Diabetes for a number of years, which also motivates me to learn about disease prevention through nutrition. I am passionate about nutrition and helping others achieve a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing through a healthy well balanced diet. I enjoy being exposed to new things that can expand my knowledge (move to a
Imagine a little girl always carrying a fanny pack everywhere she goes. Growing up, I never thought much of a career in nursing, and instead dreamed of becoming a FBI agent. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to take care of others. When I went on school trips I would always carry a fanny pack with my first aid kit. Every time someone was hurt I immediately went to help. In fifth grade I received a “helping hands” award because I would be the girl with the fanny pack always ready to hand in a band aid. Even at such a young age, I was aware of the need to take care of others, and committed myself to a career where I can help people.
My interest started in elementary school, because of the teachers who enhanced my passion for science. In elementary school, I never thought about turning my passion into an actual career; that didn’t happen until high school. Science always intrigued me, from the never-ending science fair projects to research projects. Georgetown University’s Masters’ program in Biotechnology/ BioScience will continue to enhance my passion for science, but will also enhance my other passion in health related professions. Throughout my life, I loved science and health, but more so, the satisfaction of putting someone’s well being before my own.
From a young age, I have always wanted to know how and why the things around me work. Science was one of my more well-liked subjects throughout my schooling years. I am able to excel in these subjects because I have developed a strong interest in them and I enjoy the process of learning new things. I have always wanted to go to university to study a science-based subject. While browsing through the variety of courses available in your university, I came across "Food Science" and it caught my attention. That was when I knew it would be the right course for me.
