The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell has been a classic among bookworms looking for a short fix since the 1920s. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the author, Richard Connell, does an outstanding job of portraying the bizarre adventure of an insane, however experienced hunter, General Zaroff. The protagonist, Rainsford, another experienced hunter from New York City, appears on General Zaroff’s island, explores, and eventually encounters with Zaroff. They introduce themselves, settle down, and begin to talk. During the talk with the general, Rainsford soon learns that the General was not only a hunter; but a murderer as well. Zaroff has lured and ceased many sailors to his island to play a game. Although, they did not hunt with the General, the General hunted them! Zaroff claimed that hunting “had become too easy”, therefore, hunting began
Rainsford is disgusted and sickened at the fact that General Zaroff’s idea of hunting means hunting humans. In return for his passage off the island Zaroff forces Rainsford to participate in his hunting game where he is the hunter and Rainsford is the prey. The main characters,
A man gets hunted by another man on the deserted Ship-Trap Island in the middle of the Caribbean. Rainsford, the protagonist in “The Most Dangerous Game”, a short story written by Richard Connell, gets hunted by General Zaroff. Rainsford abounds with fear, making him crazy. General Zaroff’s arrogance causes him to feel that he possesses the right to hunt the people he captures. His arrogance causes him to commit gruesome things; in this case, murder. Prior to becoming another man’s prey, Rainsford feels that animals have no feelings, but he sympathizes for animals being hunted after he himself becomes prey. His feelings and opinions transform after this experience. “The Most Dangerous Game” consists of three central themes: fear makes an individual crazy, arrogance causes hurtful actions, and some experiences have the potential to alter an individual’s opinion.
Have you ever been hunted in your lifetime before ? In “the most dangerous Game “ by Richard connell two men were hunting each other. Rainsford demonstrates that he is adventurous, smart, and sneaky.
Anything is acceptable as long as it is legal. Or so that’s what they say. If so why worry or make a big deal over something that’s legal? The reason.... We don’t agree with the result so we want our way or nothing at all;not caring if it’s legal or not. In the case of Zimbabwe it is legal to hunt. So the only thing left to decide is if Killing Cecil the lion was acceptable or unacceptable; I think that killing for big game hunting is acceptable as long as it is legal. thesis
How would it feel to suddenly go from being the hunter to becoming the prey? That is exactly what happened to Rainsford, one of the main characters in The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. Rainsford was a big game hunter who accidentally fell of of his yacht. He swam to a nearby island, and there he met General Zaroff, a cruel man who hunts humans for sport. In exchange for release from the island, Rainsford agrees to be hunted by Zaroff. Consequently, Rainsford is a survivor because he kills Zaroff and wins the game. Rainsford is also a survivor because he demonstrates the qualities that a person must have to be considered a survivor. Although Rainsford is a survivor, Zaroff is not. To be considered a survivor, a person must go through a traumatic or life-threatening experience but still demonstrate resilience and determination.
Imagine a world where people hunt other people as a sport and the hunters become the prey in a fight to survive. In the short story, “The most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell there is a rich hunter named Sanger Rainsford and he is on his yacht in the middle of the Caribbean. After hearing a gunshot he leans over the side of the yacht and he swims to a strange island. On that Island he meets General Zaroff. During a dinner Zaroff tells Rainsford about the hunts he likes to go on and after much convincing Rainsford reluctantly agrees to go on the hunt. Rainsford spends the next few days in a fight for his survival and ends up winning “the game.” In “The Most Dangerous Game” Richard Connell creates suspense by using two elements: foreshadowing and dangerous action.
In the story “The Most Dangerous Game” man versus man is one of the biggest conflicts. In the story it is Rainsford versus General Zaroff. Zaroff challenges Rainsford to a game, a hunting game. General Zaroff will try and hunt Rainsford. Zaroff use to hunt animals but he got bored of it, so he moved on to hunt humans. Zaroff lived on a island and it was surrounded by rocks. He put two lights on the two largest rocks indicating that was a safe way to go for ships because there were no rocks in between them, but it was a trap, in between the the two large rocks where more rocks. So the ships would sink and the sailors would swim to the island where Zaroff would hunt them. When Rainsford found out about this he was disgusted. Rainsford says to General Zaroff, “‘Hunting? Great guns, General Zaroff what you speak of is murder’”(7). But Rainsford had to either pick Zaroff’s hunting game or be tortured by Ivan. Rainsford chose to play the game with General Zaroff and the General was very happy because Rainsford was also a hunter so it was a challenge for him. While Rainsford was being hunted he made traps, the traps never managed to kill Zaroff, they killed his best hunting dog and Ivan. The man vs man conflict gives this
