Edgar Allan Poe’s story began his life on January 19th, 1809. At a young age of two tragedy struck and changed the course of his life. Poe’s parents Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe and David poe Jr. Poe’s parents died in December 1811 when he was two due to tuberculosis. (Shmoop.com) Poe went to college but got kicked out due to bad habits. Poe worked for a newspaper company and eventually sought out to be a writer (Poestories.com). Edgar’s real parents were professional actors, later both died before he was three in December of 1811 (Poets.org). In the early life of the author people called Edgar “The father of detective stories”. They called Edgar this because he would grasp the interest of readers around the world. Edgar eventually got kicked out of the college academy due to poor handling of his duties (biography.com). When Edgar wrote his first book, he couldn’t support himself. The poem talks about a child feeling alone in the world, like no one can help him like he was all alone in the world. The poem also talks about how this child sees the world differently from everyone else. Poe wrote this poem in the autograph album of Lucy Holmes. The poem was never published when Poe was alive, but was eventually it was published by E. L. Didier in Scribner’s Monthly for September of 1875
