When I attended college, I will be the first person in my family with the opportunity to attend college.I feel as though having the option to attend college is a really important decision that I need to make the best of and do something important with the educational opportunity that i have been presented. I want to attend college and use my education for more than a tool to make money. I want to study journalism and use my voice in order to speak out for those who don't have the opportunity to speak out for themselves I want to be that voice for them.Particularly in minority communities. Whether or not a college education is worth the money is controversial topic. Some people believe that going to college worth a better life. Other challenge this position, claiming that it is time and money wasting. However, the value of college is apparent, deciding whether it is worthwhile means weighing the value against the cost of attending. Although both sides of this issue has merit, it seems clear that a college education is a worthwhile investment because it is a means of gain knowledge, higher pay and stable future.

I would like to attend college because I want to be able to demonstrate not only to myself but to my family that we can do what we set ourselves to do. I would to do go far in this life and accomplish my life goals. Without college, I will not be able to do my goals. When I was younger and thinking about college I always pictured it as I saw it in the movies, you sleep all day and have fun all night. Know what I know now I understand the importance of college and I think of it a little differently than before. I know that I need to work hard and study hard to be able to succeed at my fullest potential in college. I have had a few experiences in my life that have helped me realize that I need to work hard to get the output which I was hoping for in the beginning. I’ve seen my sister diagnosed with diabetes her first week of high school, I’ve witnessed my dad struggling through cancer and conquering it, and I have made it through 6 month of grueling and time consuming physical therapy to make it so I could use my shoulder again. Through these experiences my perspective about hard work and perseverance has changed dramatically, and for that I am thankful.

What is the purpose of college? Collectively, most would posit it is to prepare young adults for life and to give them the necessary tools to succeed in whichever field they wish to pursue. As a student of Goa, I can say first hand that the university is well intentioned and that a class such as Goa may be needed; however, Goa falls short in its design and execution. It is because of this failure that Goa should be reevaluated and recreated to better suit the needs of incoming freshman.
