The polar bear, a very big white bear, is a bear that lives inside the Arctic Circle near the North Pole. In the South Pole, there aren't any polar bear live there. Most of the polar bears have around 450 kilos weight and three meters long. Since they have big and wide feet, they can stand up using their back legs. They can use their front legs as arms when they eat and catch fish. The polar bears are good swimmers. They can swim up to 120 kilometers while catching for their food. Usually, polar bears also go into the water when they feel afraid. Lately, many people hunt polar bears and kill them to get their beautiful fur. The government of Canada, the United States, and Russia have banned the action of killing polar bears now since the number
Black bears and Grizzly bears live in the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, and Canada. There are over 600,000 black bears in North America and thousands of Grizzly bears. The bears are out there. Anytime that you are spending time in bear country it is important that you know how to be safe and to keep your children safe.
Evolution of the polar bear also resulted in curved, needle-sharp claws for clinging to ice and grabbing prey. In addition, they developed large, partially webbed paws to assist with swimming. On land, their enormous paws are useful for traveling across loose snow and the paws provide a bigger area to spread their weight across on thin ice. Another adaptation is the polar bear’s longer neck which is needed to keep their head above water when swimming (Polar Bear Evolution 1995). All of these characteristics, unique to the polar bear, have been part of its evolution.
Their feet are made for the ice and snow; they have rough leather pads so they don’t slip on ice, fur between toes and sharp claws as a weapon. They are plantigrade and left handed. Their toes are webbed so they can swim in water. Their fur is a yellowish white; the top lay is long and hollow to absorb heat and can float in the water. The undercoat covers their black skin that has four inches of blubber, which is an extra layer of warmth. This kind of coat makes it uncomfortable for polar bears to be in the heat. A polar bears sense of smell is the best sense they have, they mostly rely on it. It can smell a dead whale 15 miles away, can smell where a seal is hiding in six inches of ice, and can smell a human before they could even see them. Their eyes are small to block out the sun reflecting off the snow and their ears are small, close to their heads to keep warm.
The Polar Bear are found on the icy coasts that surrounds the North Poles and as far south as Hudson Bay. Around 60%of Polar Bears can be found in Canada with the remainings throughout Greenland, Alaska, Svalbard, and Russia where tend to be close to the ocean across the icy fields. The habitats are affected by human encroachment by hunting , and releasing chemical pollutants into the water. The Polar Bear eats Seals, Walrus, and Seabirds. Polar Bears can live up to 20-30 year. Polar Bears have a lot of fur and their fur is clear, white, or yellow. The Polar Bear is 6.5 ft-8.3ft. they can weigh up to 330lbs -1,322lbs and they can swim up to 25mph.
This is where most of their time is spent: either when hunting, mating, denning, or just roaming. Surprisingly, polar bears are extremely resilient swimmers. According to Defender’s of wildlife, polar bears may be seen in open waters as far as 200 miles off shore. ("Basic facts about Polar Bears," n.d.). One of the reasons for such behavior is, like mentioned earlier, polar bears depend on ice. When newly frozen ice is too thin to support a polar bear’s weight, the polar bear finds a different alternative to get across. In most cases, a polar bear will break through the ice and swim until they require oxygen. (Striling, 2011) This comes to show how they both able to survive using both mediums. However, swimming is considered a very high-priced activity for polar bears to do. In other words, swimming requires an immense amount of energy and as a result, you will not commonly see polar bears
Polar bears were recorded as "Undermined" under the Endangered Species Act in 2008 after the US Fish & Wildlife Service verified that environmental change in the Arctic was extremely diminishing the measure of ocean ice on which the bears chase seals and other marine warm blooded creatures.
The polar bear has to be able to stay warm in the harsh winter cold. In fact sometimes because they have such thick fur they have to lay down on the snow to cool off so the harsh cold isnt even enough to keep them up to tempreture.
Regardless of the studies continuously being done on the polar bear and brown grizzly bear lineage, the polar bear is listed as “vulnerable” which is one level below “endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature List. This is due to the warming climate, loss of sea ice, threats of hunting, shipping, and pollution (Hailer, Verena, and Bjorn, 2012).
Although, there would be less attacks bears should not be removed because it’s their common territory, people are sensitizing, and it might have been a defensive act.
Polar Bears ply the Artic Niche Where Air,Ice,and water intersect. Their Powerful Front Legs and Huge curve claws are especially adapted for striking and killing their pray. They have the thickest fur of any Bear species. Thick fur, Two Layers, one The undercoat, Plush Hair That helps keep Warm. the outer insulates Them and repel water. This insulation Coat also reflects all light, Reason why we see there coat white when it is colorless. Excellent Divers Stay underwater for 2 min goes as deep as 15".
Scientists say that the melting of Arctic ice and ice caps are harmful to essential life of arctic animals like polar bears because they live on Arctic ice and ice caps (Rinkesh). Research has proven both of these theories wrong. The Arctic ice and ice caps have increased and are still increasing. Since 2012, the Arctic ice and ice caps have increased in volume by fifty percent (Foley). There are over twenty thousand polar bears in the world and over sixty percent of these polar bears live in Canada (Matishov). The population of polar bears is increasing and staying at a stable rate, depending on their location (Global Warming and Polar Bears). Since, both of these theories have been proven wrong, we do not believe that “global warming” is affecting the Arctic ice or Arctic
The polar bear lives up in the Arctic region where global warming and climate change are melting the ice caps that the bears thrive on. They use the ice as a platform from hunting and rest. The random pocket holes in the ice, where the seals pop up at, is where the polar bear catches its prey. With this reduction of ice, “the abundance of seals, and increases the amount of energy and time needed for hunting, leaving less energy for reproduction” (Endangered Species and Habitats).
“Polar bears can hunt to.” Animals have no reason to be endangered! Why does the U.S. think it is okay to over- hunt and harm animals just for fun? Polar bears can’t always protect themselves and there children. ONE’S OPINION IS THAT’S
The polar bear is the largest carnivorous bear. They spend much of their time on the Arctic sea ice making the polar bear considered to be a marine mammal (National Geographic, 2016). The polar bears body characteristics are adapted for the cold. Their fur is thicker than other species of bear and the fur covers around their paws to keep traction on the sea ice (Polar Bears International, 2016). A thick layer of blubber beneath their fur provides buoyancy and insulation for the extremely cold conditions (National Geographic, 2016). The polar bears average lifespan in the wild is twenty to twenty-five years. The male polar bears weight varies from 550 to 1,320 pounds while the female polar bears weight averages from 200 to 700 pounds. From nose to tail a male polar bear is eight to nine feet long while a female is six to seven feet long (Defenders of Wildlife, 2016). Polar bears are highly dependent on the condition of the ice region (Stirling et al. 1999).
The polar bear ia a large bear that lives in the north. They are the second largest bear in the bear family, and they ha a unique white fur that differentiates them from the rest of the bears. This white fur is not only their unique characteristic, but also an amazing tool that God has given them so that they can survive in the wild. In order to better understand polar bear, pwople must understand their habit, their characteristics, and the dangers they are facing.
