It is very interesting how people call upon the police and then get mad when it isn't going the way they believe it should. When the police come regardless of the situation they have to protect and serve the community if they like cops or not. If a cop is "dirty" he will be found and then have to own what he/she has done. Though majority of the time it's the person trying to get a cop in trouble or fail to comply. Anymore as you stated about the media, that honestly is the reason why they are being scrutinized so much. If you look back a few years back the police weren't the talk amongst the average joe, but now you see them being down graded in comments, threads, videos, news, and in person. Majority of the cops do care about their community
Its hypocritical and embarrassing for the country because we say we hate the police because of what the media is showing us, Which isn’t our fault but this is The United States Of America and we’re free to have our own opinion so we should be held accountable for our thoughts about being hypocritical about needing the police.
In the 1950’s, Senator Joseph McCarthy turned Americans against each other by installing fear in the people regarding toward Communism. During this time, in fact, people were getting blacklisted even if they weren't communist. In an incident at the Republican Women’s Club of Wheeling, McCarthy delivered a speech. The situation involving the Senator escalated when he stated that the State Department is infested with Communist. In this point in time, due to the false allegations, people went on a decade long period of witch hunts. Sam Roberts, the author of “A Decade of Fear” stated that in fact, “...thousands of alleged Communists in the U.S. were arrested and deported during what became known as the Red Scare.”
I am writing to express my sincere interest in a Summer Associate position at Orrick’s Sacramento office. Spending another summer as a member of the Orrick legal team would be a remarkable opportunity to continue my development as an aspiring litigator, and to build upon the knowledge that I have gained during the 2015 Summer Associate program. I am particularly interested in continuing my legal career with Orrick because of the opportunities for professional growth that the firm provides, and the overwhelmingly positive culture. I am a strong candidate for this position as a result of my academic achievements, and because I personally espouse the core values that uphold Orrick’s unique culture.
This essay is not attempting to push the ideology that the main issue isn’t because of them. However, the fear and hatred that is driven behind everyone on both positions is being perpetuated by the amount of negative coverage that this issue is receiving. In psychology, there is a term called confirmation bias, which is used to describe a mindset where people will only seek out information that conforms to their preconceived notions about something they believe to be true. (Fontinelle) Because of this, those who are in that mindset will be unlikely to be convinced otherwise that they are wrong. The fact that police are generally only talked about negatively in the news will almost force an individual who keeps up with mainstream media to see only negative things about police officers, and start to believe that police officers are not as trustworthy as they should be. This creates an immediate confirmation bias in people’s mind, which is a problem when the issue is already heated. Statistically speaking, the majority of officers are not the same as those being covered in the news. Good officers, alongside bad officers, have been seen as problematic because of the excess police brutality coverage, which in return negatively affects the entire police
Ultimately, I believe that not all cops are these awful people that the media portrays them as. I believe that the actions of a few “bad apples” spoils the opinion of the whole. It can be argued that I believe this because of the social factors which influence my location. The social factors which influence my location include my race, class, geographic location and my relationships with others. When these social factors act in unison they help to formulate my opinions, what I believe in and, in the end, who I
In the mid to late 1900’s the code of silence was introduce to the police officers, The police officers live and work under a code of silence called the blue code of silence in the United States. The blue code
The media has portrayed Officers in a new light. Rather than protective guardians, they are now unstable, power-fueled workers of the law. It is their choice what they will do with the duty of enforcing the law. Anyone can fall victim to Police Brutality. However, America’s social and economic society is improving at an alarming rate. America is at a time now where peaceful protests and the like are promoted, while aggressive out lashes, unlawful activities, and excessive force is frowned upon. The economy today is a result of the hard work of ancestors who protested and ensured a better future. In the future, it is possible that Officers will no longer be stereotyped as abusive, or unlawful. A united front is required for this future, where there are no more sides, violence, or
It seems that in some cases police officers forget this. “Prior to Ferguson, police were politically untouchable.”(Somashekhar et al.) Police officers had not been put under the spot light as much as they have been recently. The law seemed to always be on their side protecting them from all wrong doing. Fortunately, the media has finally given these wrongful acts a place to be investigated. Law enforcement agencies can no longer turn their heads on what is really going on. “Some in law enforcement are troubled by this trend, worried that public sympathy is shifting toward suspects and away from the police who put their lives on the line every day.” Yes it maybe a police officers job to arrest people doing crimes but it is also their job to protect. Just how it may not be fair that they put their lives at risk everyday and are scared to get killed in the line of duty, people should not live everyday scared to go out and be confused for a criminal by an officer just because of their skin color, clothing or location. Police officers have to go into work everyday know g that there will be consequences to there wrongful actions. This will make them think twice before pulling out their guns on innocent people of color. Yes, there are criminals that police need to be careful for but this does not mean that everyone one has to pay the cost. Officers should be charged if proven to be at fault for being involved
Throughout history there has been many confrontational situations between citizens and police officers. Dating back to the 1960s during the civil rights movement, to recent events in the news that demonstrates police brutality. But does this mean that police officers aren’t doing their jobs. Could the media and social networks influence our views of the police? In my opinion it does. Police brutality has circulated media headlines for decades now. Citizens rage through the country, becoming more angry due to the outcome of police officers that use excessive force on victims are not being held accountable for it and walking away free. Studies have shown that police brutality targets more minority groups, such as Latinos and African
Before watching the video, I did have an unfair advantage as I have been to Europe, the Middle East and around much of the world. So, I had already sided with Dr. Licona that Jesus did indeed die on the cross. His first verse, I feel like it didn’t back his argument up very well. His first reason is that the reports are early and originate with the apostles. Then that Jesus’s execution was found in many different manuscripts. All, these manuscripts is the strongest form of evidence that anyone could ever ask for. It comes not only from believers, but non-believers as well. Which is to say that we aren’t skewed in what we imagine of Jesus or his crucifixion. Then, the most obvious reason is that anatomically is impossible. You endure so much torture that your body can’t handle the pain of the torture and the agony of being crucified. Thus far in the debate, there are five arguments that make a strong case for the death on the cross. The evidence is so strong that nearly persuaded one-hundred percent of the sceptics. I respect the writings that are found in the Bible. So, in Matthew 16:21-23 it says:
It would be easy to pass judgement on our law enforcement officers and our young people on the streets today. Negative media and racism are on an all-time high. Daily we are confronted with images of what is assumed to be a gang member running from police as the sound of gunfire rings in the background. It’s like a war right here on American soil. Usually, either the officer or the young person gets shot and wounded or killed. Then the media has a field day with the story.
Since a very young age we have been taught to put our trust into police officers. If we are in distress, they are always there to help since it is their job to protect and serve the common citizen. So what happens when the individuals we are supposed to trust to bring justice are the ones causing the injustice we see in the news? Recently, several police officers have been under fire for their excessive use of force. The number of casualties caused by police officers in the recent years have citizens demanding a reform in the system that officers work under.
Police officers are held accountable for everything they do. The public is always watching. Police officers are members of the communities they work in. They are just paid to protect and serve their neighbors within that community.
The police and the media have been very closely related to one another for a very long time and they will always have to have a relationship with them. They are so closely related because crime itself is considered news that is valuable to the people of a community. Without the media and law enforcement working together, many people would not know what was going on and/or how to act about certain crimes if there are any within their communities. With that in mind, law enforcement must keep up with all the advancing technologies that involve any kind of media. This includes social media, print, internet, television, and cell phones as well. Keeping up with all these different media platforms, working together with the media, and staying on
Everybody should be concerned when police are found of wrongdoings. These are people representing our community, and we should not let
