Policemen of the World
For several decades, the United States has taken on the police role for the entire world. This has been particularly useful to America in terms of forming allies and assisting those nations in need. Since gaining its independence from the British, America has progressed from expansionist to isolationism to protecting democracy. Therefore, in my view the United States has assumed the responsibility of policemen of the world.
International Events from the Previous Five Years Traceable to a Foreign Policy Established After the Civil War One global event, which took place towards the end of the year 2012, was in Jordan. The United States deployed about 150 troops in Jordan to assist with the Syrian Civil War in the borders

Just like Jordan, the Turkish government also in support of the Syrian rebellions to President Al-Assad. As a result, the American government sent about 400 troops and two batteries of Loyalist missiles to Turkey to avert any missile attacks from Syria. In fact, scud missiles were thrown at some agitators, which demonstrated that, the government of President Assad does not fear using force against humanity for personal interests. As a result, the American batteries would form part of the wider push to reinforce the Turkish defense, which will also include the deployment of additional loyalist including two from the Netherlands and two from Germany (Herring, 28). This clearly shows that policing role of the United …show more content…
capitalism. During this period, the world was categorized into capitalism and communism or rather democratic nations. Russia and the United States were spearheading both groups, and global decisions were made on behalf of these nations. In fact, the Korean conflict is a proof of this when two differing ideologies collide with one another. Next driving force was the conflict in Sub-Sahara nations. Due to Islamic extremists, the conflict in Sub-Sahara nations and within the Middle East forced Europe and the United States to establish international policies that could protect the democratic values within these regions and the rest of the world (Chaplin 10-12). In fact, the global policy decisions were created concerning religious groups, as well as, mass destruction weapon of
During the Civil War and the American Revolution Americans didn’t only have to deal with their national policies, they also had to deal with their international relations with the rest of the countries in the World. The relations with other countries are also known as Foreign Policies. The overseas dimensions reflected onto the Civil War and Revolution Era.
In this article, American Taught Police: Surveillance in the “Land of Freedom,” the author Nikki Jones talks and describes taught of being followed by technology everywhere you go. She talks about the consequences and the civil rights and liberties that the American Taught Police may steal form the citizen. She describes that device as the tracking device and that device follows you. She brings up the question of the fourth Amendment. The fourth amendment is supposed to protect the rights of the citizen through “Search and seizure.” In the second paragraph, the author, Nikki Jones, talks about how the FBI and the NSA collecting so much data without any warrants because there is a question of national security.
There are claims that they have been leading fighters from Afghanistan and Lebanon's Shiite movement Hezbollah, which Tehran denies. In the United States President Barack Obama has called Assad a "tyrant" and insisted on his departure since 2011. But Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that Washington would discuss "options that could perhaps reignite the political process and bring about a political transition in Syria". Washington has spearheaded an anti-IS coalition since September 2014, conducting airstrikes in Syria and Iraq. And in Russia, whose only Mediterranean military base is in Tartus on the Syrian coast, says it is fighting "terrorists", referring to all of Assad's opponents. But the West accuses it of primarily targeting moderate rebels rather than the Islamic State (IS) group. Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged Tuesday to continue supporting Damascus militarily, while calling for a "political solution" involving all groups to end the
Throughout post-WWII history, the United States has taken on the role of the world’s police. They feel the obligation to ensure the spread of their ideals for selfish and self-righteous reasons. John Mueller and Odd Arne Westad share their arguments as to what the United States’ actions have produced during the Cold War in Eastern Europe, Korea, and Vietnam and during the post-9/11 period in the Afghanistan and Iraq. While some of their arguments are valid, others are flawed.
In his article The Paranoid Style of American Policing, Ta-Nehisi Coates suggests that police officers in the United States are too quick to use lethal force as a resolution to de-escalate a potentially dangerous situation. He believes they should be held accountable for their actions, the same way every day civilians are.
The United States has been hungry for power and authority since the conclusion of WWII. Ever since the United States had been deemed a powerhouse, they continuously feel like they need to police the world. We see examples of this in the raging war in the Middle East and now possibly even more frightening is the silent policing agents that have been underway since a Tuesday morning on September 11th 2001. When the twin towers of the World Trade Center fell, as did the rights to privacy of every citizen in America.
In the political involvement in American policing was looked at as a problem for both the society and law enforcements in the 19th century. In the 19th century the police transformation in the U.S was a fail and it became an issue were the citizens tried to force a change to make things better. In the beginning of the 20th century modifications began to make dramatic changes in the policing side in the United States. One of the main goals they tried to change is taking out the politics from the American policing. This made the effort to have some kind of rules to recruit the right personal and hiring the best police officers then can find.
Is America the world's policeman? Currently it would seem so, with the United States sending unheard of support to countless countries. America has been doing this task for about 60 years, more or less. America spends millions of dollars for the safety of countries that can't help themselves. Obviously America cannot afford to support so many countries and itself. Either it will run out of money or it will run out of men. Policing the world takes a lot of manpower. America is dragging down its own future. If America supports everyone else when they are down, will they do the same for America in the future? America, if it keeps wasting its resources to protect everyone else, will eventually fail (Snyder).
To understand the move from isolationism to interventionism we must take a look at the events that led up to the current American foreign policy.
I would like to emphasize the genocide in several parts of Africa, where never American troops have been sent to.
Law Enforcement officers have one of the most critical jobs in the United States. Their lives are always on the line and they are of high regards. This means they cannot fail! The results of their jobs do not only depend on their actions but also on the people. What this means is the community has a huge role when it comes to solving crime. Though many people may not believe it, they are the key to a successful crime prevention community. The people of the United States don’t really understand both the positive and negative effects that community policing actually brings. Some may say it is very dangerous based on their experiences. Others may say it’s the best way to do away with crime. Today the two will be compared and put to test by true officers serving our country. The facts will be stated and questions will be answered. Let’s take a look at what community policing is really all about!
The movie ‘Policing the Police” is a documentary with INTERVIEWS done of citizens and the Newark Police Department. The first word I thought of when I began watching this movie was DYSFUCTION. From both the police and citizens stand point. The Newark Police Department seems to lack organization and communication. The city is a mess with gangs and gun violence. I believe this movie can have both the CONFLICT and FUNCTIONALIST theories applied. Looking at it from a conflict perspective the police and community are having somewhat of a power struggle. The community feels it’s being targeted and its members are being STEROTYPED just for being young African American men. For example, the citizens feel as though they are being profiled and unconstitutionally
We feel it is our duty to implement a standard of conduct for the world to follow in order for a common sense of unity and security. Often times I will here an American state that we are not the world police, but on the contrary we are the Western Hemisphere police.
Jazz, a genre of music that was born from fear and unfortunate circumstances, is to this day one of the most loved music genres. Jazz, by definition, is “a type of music of black American origin characterized by improvisation, syncopation, and usually a regular or forceful rhythm, emerging at the beginning of the 20th century. Brass and woodwind instruments and piano are particularly associated with jazz, although guitar and occasionally violin are also used; styles include Dixieland, swing, bebop, and free jazz.” (Google Definitions) However, despite how popular and loved this upbeat music was, it caused a lot of controversy in its time.
The psychologist serves a great purpose in the law enforcement as well. The police psychologists provide services that are used to counter police use of excessive force. The psychologists are there to characterize the types of officers who are known to abuse force and to recommend psychology-based intervention that could help police managers reduce cases of excessive force. Some think that the police departments should rely mostly on pre employment screening to identify violence-prone candidates.
