At the 89th Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood which is to be held on the 26th of February, this year’s winners will be taking home the famous Oscar statuette manufactured by an American Croat.
For over 80 years, the Chicago cult company R.S. Owens&Co made the Oscar statuette, but last year the Academy selected Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry from New York to make the famous statuette.
Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry was founded by Dick Polich, the son of Croatian immigrants. Polich, originally Polic, is an 83 year old graduate economist from Yale University and a graduate metallurgist from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He descended from the small village of Zlobin near Rijeka.
Polich Tallix was among the first in the United States
Dale Chihuly is an American glass blower (Dale Patrick Chihuly, 2015). The piece of art I’ll mainly be looking at is Citron and Cobalt Tower. This piece was located directly in the center of the museum as soon as you walked in to the show room. It caught my eye and I knew immediately what I wanted to do my paper on.
The major issue is determining why Ferguson Foundry Limited’s (FFL) actual profit was $367,600 lower than budgeted, despite selling 2,000 more wood stoves (12,000 instead of 10,000 units). This will be explained using Variance Analysis to demonstrate the underlying reasons why the company failed to meet its president’s expectations. FFL profit for 2010 was below budget due to many factors both production and marketing related.
Matthew McConaughey was a very enthusiastic speaker who showed that he was the right choice when winning this award. He began by thanking his fellow workers who worked hard on the movie and even the other nominees to show respect and not doubt his fellow actors. McConaughey also states his three main points of the speech to show what he would be talking about. His humor made his words flow whenever he started talking about his Father and it caused it to shift into thanking his loved ones in the audience. His stance throughout the speech looked like he was shifting only because he would look around at the audience and create eye contact. McConaughey pointed out the people he was talking about and directly spoke to them the things he wanted to
The other two nominations came from Best Writing, Adapted screenplay, and for Best Achievement In Film editing. The last one was for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing. The American Sniper movie end up winning the oscar for Best Achievement in Sound Editing (trumbo).
To what extent was unrestricted submarine warfare by Germany the principle reason for United States involvement in the First World War? Germany was the main culprit of using submarines in order to threaten ships of other countries and their main target Great Britain. In 1915 when Germany released a policy called “Unrestricted submarine warfare”, this would give Germany the right to attack ships that would cross the war zone. This would later on lead to attacks that would kill many from neutral countries and this would later on lead to the Declaration of War on Germany by the United States. Learning more about this topic would give the opportunity to understand why the United States joined the First World War and how this affected the United States later on.
The Forge of Vulcan is Jean-Baptiste-Marie Pierre’s work finished around 1750-1760 while The Diver—The Coral Fisherman painted by Ary Renan in 1882. This essay would discuss the similarities and diversities of these two works of art.
Trying to fix a diversity problem doesn’t have an instant solution. The Academy is facing this and dealing with the racial representation in the Oscar Awards as it has become a huge problem in Hollywood. Ira Deutchman, a member of the Academy, has stated “Like many Academy members, I was embarrassed and disappointed when this year’s Oscar nominees were announced, but I wasn't shocked. After all, no season passes without several scathing articles about the lack of diversity in Hollywood, both on the screen and in executive suites. On the other hand, when fingers were pointed at the membership of the Academy as the cause of the problem, I bristled at the implications”(Deutchman). As stated, the audience even including the Academy Members are baffled by the Oscar’s nominees. Racial representation is a huge problem in
Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a traditional sculptor that was born in 1598 and created art pieces such as “Apollo and Daphne” for well-known churches in Rome. In my opinion, the 100 feet tall “Audi Centenary Sculpture” designed by Gerry Judah best fits into the Invention and Fantasy theme. As described on the textbook, the Invention and Fantasy theme can bring an imaginary world to life for the spectator. By placing both cars on the end of the steel track that is not supported by cables or braces and that is pointing to the sky, the spectator can imagine the cars driving off into the sky, out of this world. Through this sculpture Gerry Judah wanted us to perceive these vehicles as something out of this world.
Some of these awards are two Oscars, three Golden Globes, and five Silver Ribbon Awards.

After carefully reviewing the letter from Executive Director William Patterson, of CtW Investment Group, addressed to Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) Lead Director and Corporate Governance Committee Chairman Rajiv Gupta, I have discovered many new items I was not previously aware of. This well thought and precisely constructed letter clearly addresses the issues and concerns felt by a majority of HP’s shareholders following the news regarding the recent $8 billion of impairment charges. If I were a stockholder of HP, I would be equally as concerned and would question the judgment of upper management and the board of directors.

Throughout history, power is the driving force behind human innovation and advancement, leading to the emergence of new empires, technological advancements, and exploration of the unknown. Although power is motivation for human ingenuity, absolute power can lead to humanity’s downfall. Absolute power leads to the inevitable corruption of even those whose intentions were initially good. Throughout George Orwell’s Animal Farm, Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, and Ishmael Beah’s A Long Way Gone, the authors delve into the tyranny experienced in the world around them.
