It may seem like a peculiar decision to combine the political and economic impacts of tourism into one section, whereas the historiography and underlying concepts of cultural authenticity are divided into their own individual parts. While the economic and political impacts are vast, many of the economic impacts intersect with the socio-political issues that are faced by those who live developing regions (i.e. structural violence). That being said, it should also be quite conspicuous that cultural issues are often times connected with economics and politics. The Globalization process is a chief example of how culture, politics, and economics can all intersect.
The world is continually changing, as history continues to unfold, we are faced with new innovations. Technological innovations particularly, have opened new doors that were at one time inconceivable, leading to the globalized world that we currently exist in. The concept of globalization can be applied to a wide variety of international aspects. For example, globalization can refer to the global connections that we make through the use of technology. We are able to communicate more widely and easily with people in different world regions. Globalization can also be used in conjunction with discussions of global economics. The latter explanation of globalization is widely debated as to whether or not the process of globalization is disadvantageous.
In an undisputed fact, the tourism industry continues to grow. The
Globalization involves “the socioeconomic reform process of eliminating trade, investment, information technology, and cultural and political barriers across countries, which could lead to increased economic growth and geopolitical integration and independence among nations of the world (Gasper, 2017, p. 5)”. Globalization has led to many great successes and has allowed good and services to cross foreign borders. Globalization permits economic growth within developing and developed countries.
Globalization is the process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network by transportation, communication, and trade. Through a global lens the process of globalization seems to be vital to the development of the modern world. As a result of globalization there has been a dramatic transition in every aspect of life around the world, more specifically in areas such as trade, immigration, and human development. International trade bolsters sales, lowers the cost of production and consumption, and extends the market reach of any corporation. This is beneficial to America in that consumers are able to buy more goods and services at lower costs and therefore the gross domestic product
According to Osterhammel and Petersson, globalization “summarizes a wide spectrum of experiences shared by many people” (2). I agree with this statement and would go on to claim that globalization is a group of processes and events, some beneficial and some harmful, that have resulted in the spread of networks across the world. However, this spread of networks did not happen over night. This is in part because not all interactions are transformed into networks, as these require a certain degree of longevity. In order for interactions to become networks, groups must consider the range between each other and their interactions must be important or impactful, intense, fast, durable, and frequent. For the reason that each of these characteristics must be present in order for networks to form, globalization has been in the works for many centuries and is still at work today. Therefore, while the historical events and processes of past centuries have provided the roots of globalization, the modernization of recent decades has built upon these roots to connect the world in a way
“Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world” (The State University of New York, 2014, para 1).
Globalization is one of the most discussed and controversial terms in modern history, while many people believe free trade drive global economic growth, create jobs, and lower prices for consumers. Contrary, others argue global cooperation mainly abuse, underpaid their employees lastly benefits from tax havens. Regardless of someone’s personal view, globalization is an ancient and profound system based on international strategies of which economic, political, and sociocultural relations are interconnected across long geographical boundaries. This Integration occurs as technological advances simplify and facilitated the trading of goods and services, the flow of capital, and migration of people across the globe. Globalization is the process by which different societies and cultures integrate through a worldwide network of political ideas through transportation, communication, and trade. Generally, globalization has affected many nations in various ways; economically, politically, and socially. It is a term that refers to the fast integration and interdependence of various nations, which shapes the world affairs on a global level. Simply put; globalization is the world coming together. In this essay I will discuss multiple perspectives on globalization through the analysis of these three sources.
Globalization is difficult to simply define due to the variety of changing definitions that have been established over previous decades. Hamilton and Webster (2012) suggest that globalization is the connection between nations, defining globalization as a process in which barriers are reduced in order to encourage exchanges between countries. This view proposes that globalization refers very much so to the trade barriers and the improved communications between countries in order to ensure the world is unified. Globalization increases economic activity across the world and opens up markets for foreign investment.
Globalization describes the interdependence of nations, the opening up of markets through the removal of trade barriers, foreign direct investment, and enhancing of technological communications. Moreover, it is the shift towards the
During the last decade of the twentieth century, the word ‘globalization’ has become an increasingly prominent feature of political, social, and economic discussion in academic and policymaking circles, as well as in the media. The processes and outcomes of globalization drew attention and debates that had one thing in common. The research shows that nearly everyone agrees that globalization is a trend that is changing the face of the world, and as a result the world society lives in a more ‘globalized’ world. Nearly two and a half decades passed since 1990s, and studies have been conducted to examine the causes and consequences of globalization. Moreover, nearly every person experiences some type of globalization and can testify firsthand the effects it has on their life, society, and the state. The analysis of the effects that globalization dynamics have on the world society indicates that globalization has a significant positive impact via spreading opportunities and wealth across nations, stimulating innovation and productivity, enhancing the economic development of poorer countries, and helping to improve living standards.
Another aspect of impact of tourism on a country’s economy is that it facilitates the expansion of the market of goods and services. Foreigners come to a country willing to spend money on different goods and services, thus increasing the amounts of sales. This is a great chance for producers and service providers to receive larger profits. This concerns not only hoteliers, tour operators, and souvenir shops owners. Public transportation, retail stores of different kind, restaurants, and cafes benefit from international tourism. Obviously, if these industries are in demand, businesses will be expanding. On the one hand, it means that more money is paid to the budget. On the other hand, profits generated by the owners are spent inside the country, affecting almost all the fields of the
The concept of globalization is a complex and peculiar one, failing to be definable by a single, precise definition. Centrally, globalization involves information and goods being exchanged amongst different countries. These interactions and interchanges among countries globally over time is due to an increase in communication and transport networks. Globalization is often divided into three main areas being economic globalization, cultural globalization and political globalization. All three are vital areas to one’s life and globalization is said to have a large impact on each. Although globalization is controversial in the aspect that it cannot be declared just how much of an influence the notion has in the world. Political scientists such as Muhammad Ijaz Latif, Anton Pelinka and Martin Wolf all discuss this issue in their respective pieces as well as differing aspects of globalization such as the role the European Union plays in relation to globalization, the different perspectives of globalization and the challenges of the nation-state in regards to globalization.
In an article by authors, Lechner and Boli, globalization is described as having a different level of significance to each individual. The authors then provide a definition for globalization as referring to, “the process by which more people across larger distances become connected in more and different ways.” (Lechner and Boli) While globalization can be seen as both a beneficial and an unbalanced process, it is obvious that it has created diffusion and a greater sense of world consciousness. Interconnections across the world are increasing through the time-space compression that globalization creates. This process occurs through each form of globalization working together.
Globalization is the increasing interdependence and connectedness of the world, its businesses and it markets, as well as flow of goods, ideas, technology, people etc. This phenomenon has increased vastly over the years due to technological advances, telecommunications and internet. As the world becomes a global economy, countries have the opportunity to advance more but with the catch that there is also increased competition. Thus as it becomes more common and powerful a feature, it also has some resistance as well. (InvestorWords, n.d.)
Technology and Globalization have done many positive things around the world even though many people still argue about this. “Trade-driven economic growth and technology transfer have alleviated much human misery.” (Samuelson) [Use the author’s last/family name -- MLA style documentation format] During the last few decades Globalization has been evolving at a very rapid pace. Nonetheless, it seems like the economic system is about to change worldwide, or it is at a major turning point. (Samuelson) During the years that the current system was evolving, link and interdependence between countries around the world was deepening furthermore. “The results of this constant deepening link between countries is that any conflict
The issues of globalization increasingly dominate the universe’s life. The concept of globalization according to Robertson (1992) refers to the narrowing of the world as incentives and increased our awareness of the world, namely the increasing global connections and our understanding of the connection. Globalization is a situation in which no boundaries between the people of the world and links communities in a country with people in another countries. Globalization departs from an idea to unite the nations which is expected to be a mutual agreement and guidelines for nations around the world. Globalization is able to waive the space and time constraints to get the interaction and communication between nations can be done
