There are two groups that are causing the political divide. One being the conservatives and the other being the liberals. The conservatives believe in people taking personal responsibility, limited government, individual liberty, free markets, and strong national defense with American values. Conservatives think that government should only provide freedom for people necessary to pursue to the persons' goal. The policies of government usually tend to emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.
Liberals believe in the government to take action to achieve equality and equal opportunity for everyone. They believe it is the government's duty to protect human rights and to protect civil liberties. These individuals also believe the

Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. The United States is home to the largest immigration population. Even though immigrants assimilate faster in the United States compared to developed European nations, immigration policy has become a highly contentious issue in America. Economic analysis finds little support for the view that inflows of foreign labor have reduced jobs or Americans’ wages. Research of economic theory and the bulk of academic research confirms that wages are not affected by immigration over a long-term and that the economic effects of immigration are mostly positive for natives and for the overall economy. Immigrants are at the forefront of innovation and ingenuity in the United States, accounting for a disproportionately high share of patent filings, science and technology graduates, and senior positions at top venture capital-funded firms. In addition, the presence of immigrants often creates opportunities for less-skilled native workers to become more specialized in their work, thereby increasing their …show more content…
From the start in 1945, one of the main priorities of the United Nations was to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion. Improving people’s well-being continues to be one of the main focuses of the UN. The global understanding of development has changed over the years, and countries now have agreed that sustainable development that promotes prosperity and economic opportunity, greater social well-being, and protection of the environment offers the best path forward for improving the lives of people
Thank you for contacting me! I am extremely familiar with DATE and IPB in relation to DCGS-A. While stationed at Fort Bliss, I participated in the Army Warfighter Assessment -- a 30 day, multi-national training event that utilized the DATE 2.0 scenario. During this exercise, we exclusively used DCGS-A to log, assess, and deliver actionable intelligence to higher and lower echelons. I led a team in completing Brigade-level mission analysis products (PMESII-PT & ASCOPE factors, key people, enemy composition, enemy capabilities, and situation templates). I became familiar with the tactics, techniques, and procedures described and, for example, regularly overlayed doctrinal templates on 2D maps to contribute to situation templates. In creating MCOOs, I drew from motivations and assessments made from the DATE manual, and noted key terrain and possible areas of particular conflict. By
In recent years, debates regarding policy have focused heavily on the topic of immigration in the United States. Despite all of the attention that this topic has gained, it seems that skilled immigrants is one group that has been overlooked. In large part, this particular group is becoming more prominent due to the fact that many are becoming entrepreneurs, especially in the Silicon Valley. Thus, I am interested in finding out how skilled immigrant entrepreneurs are beneficial in numerous aspects such as economic growth, innovation, public policy and societal changes. Moreover, I want to explore what challenges and opportunities these immigrants face and how their involvement within Silicon Valley provide a beneficial influence for growth. One primary source of my research will be the documentary film Starting-Up in America by Tarik Ansari. A very interesting fact quoted in the documentary stated by Vivek Wadhwa, colleague of the Stanford Law School, “Despite the fact that they constitute only 12% of the U.S. population, immigrants have started 52% of Silicon Valley’s technology companies and contributed to more than 25% of our global patents”. Starting-Up in America focuses on the challenges experienced by Silicon Valley’s skilled immigrant entrepreneurs with U.S. Immigration. The documentary interviews a handful of successful immigrant entrepreneurs asking questions such as: “Why come to the United States to start a business”, “How does your project benefit the U.S.
Liberalism started with the ideas of the Enlightenment. Two of these ideas were freedom of speech and freedom of the individual, and kept growing from there. Liberalism is the belief in a small central government and no monarchy. The liberalists defended the ideas of the definitive rights of an individual’s liberty, equality and property. The liberalists wanted their government to be established on written laws and a constitution based on equality.
According to the National Venture Capital Association, immigrants have started 25 percent of public U.S. companies that were backed by venture capital investors. This list includes Google, eBay, Yahoo!, Sun Microsystems, and Intel. According to the Small Business Administration, immigrants are 30 percent more likely to start a business in the United States than non-immigrants, and 18 percent of all small business owners in the United States are immigrants. Increased immigration to the United States has increased the earnings of Americans with more than a high school degree. Between 1990 and 2004, increased immigration was correlated with increasing earnings of Americans by 0.7 percent and is expected to contribute to an increase of 1.8 percent over the long-term, according to a study by the University of California at Davis. According to the Census Bureau, despite making up only 16 percent of the resident population holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, immigrants represent 33 percent of engineers, 27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24 percent of physical scientists. Additionally, according to the Partnership for a New American Economy, in 2011, foreign-born inventors were credited with contributing to more than 75 percent of patents issued to the top 10 patent-producing universities. Comprehensive immigration reform could support and create up
Immigrants foster innovation and increase the well organized labor market in the way it increases the economy of the country. As stated in the article “A Review of Benefits and Costs Imposed by Immigrant Population on the U.S Economy” written by Jeremias Ramos, immigration is often strongest in relation to the entry of highly-skilled immigrants into the United States of America labor marketplace (203). For instance, people who admitted to come to the United States of America by Diversified Visa (DV) Lottery are selected by considering the education level. This helps to have educated people in the country who can be innovators or educated workers. As the educated people workforce increases the economic growth, the country changed faster because
In 2014, President Obama claimed, “For more than 200 years, our tradition of welcoming immigrants from around the world has given us a tremendous advantage over other nations. It’s kept us youthful, dynamic, and entrepreneurial. It has shaped our character as a people with limitless possibilities” (Office of the Press Secretary, 2014). What makes the United States the United States? Our country’s success and culture comes from the power of immigrants. But this is not to brag about our historical foundation, rather talk about immigration being a significant variable in our economy. First, immigration brings creative ideas to the American economy. Immigrants bring their culture from their homelands, and it strengthens the population by enriching their ideas (Kelly, 2013). In addition, it creates more jobs. The study, “Immigration, Offshoring and American Jobs” by Professor Ottaviano of Bocconi University and Professor Peri of the UC Davis, notes that low-skilled immigrants usually fill gaps in American labor markets and generally enhance domestic business prospects rather than destroy jobs (Cowen, 2010). In addition, immigrants including the unauthorized people create jobs through their purchasing power and entrepreneurship. (American Immigration Council, 2015). According to the Economic Report of the President, immigration added roughly 0.2 percent to GDP: $31.4 billion (American Immigration Council, 2015). To sum it up, a study by the
The greatest contribution immigrants have made to the United States is boosting innovation. By exploring the share of patent that immigrants are involved in, it is able to state that immigrants are important for high-tech innovation in America. Nowrasteh , who is a immigration policy analyst, in his article Boost Highly Skilled Immigration states that 76 percent of all patents issued to the top ten patent producing universities had at least one foreign-born inventor in 2011. Comparing to the foreign-born population percentage of American population in 2011 which is 13 percent(“Number of Immigrants”), it easy to get that the percentage of patent is almost six times the percentage of population. The percentage of patents that involved foreign-born
Liberal Perspective: For the liberal’s perspective they believe in equal opportunity and equal rights for everyone. Liberals are mainly democratic, which is why some of the things that democrats believe, they believe as well, mainly because both of those parties think the system should help more. For example, when it comes to homelessness from both a democratic and liberal stand view you can see that they both are in the interest of helping them. However, in a liberal’s eye, they believe that social issues happen because there should be more help from the system as far as funding goes.
Liberals are all for community development and change programs. They want the disenfranchised to thrive in society. They want to provide resources and referrals for those in need. Liberals belief is that
A study finds a significant increase in innovation—in fields that immigrants enter there is a 30% increase in patents by domestic inventors. These benefits are driven at least in part by contacts between immigrants and native inventors. One of the perks of immigrants coming to the US is that American inventors get new sets of ideas and methods that they would use for their own work in the future, that means immigrants are giving Americans some of their wisdom and experience for them to use later on.
Hence we can see that liberalism is a worldview founded on the ideas of liberty and equality. Liberals generally believe in free and fair elections, freedom of press, freedom of religion, private property and civil right.
Liberals see it as their goals to bring about an open and tolerant society, one where all citizens are free to pursue and follow their beliefs and ideals with as little interference as possible.
Liberalism is a political philosophy founded on the ideas of freedom and equality. Liberals advocated for a wide range of views depending on what their understanding of these principles were. They support the freedom
Concerning the same matter, liberals view society as needing regulations to ensure fair competition between various interests. Their view on the market economy is that it needs regulation to ensure fairness. The liberals view government programs as necessary resources to help meet basic human needs, therefore the liberals advocate government action to remedy social deficiencies and to improve human welfare. Liberals also believe that government regulation and intervention is necessary to safeguard human rights, to control excess of capitalism, and to provide equal chances for individual success. Liberals stress equality and the rights to minorities. Liberals believe
Liberalist feels as though the government should do more to give everyone more equal opportunity. They believe it is the duty of the government to protect our civil liberties, and our human and civil rights. To sum it all up, the government is to make sure that no one is suffering and if there is, then it is the government’s job to solve the issues within the society. Conservatives on the other hand believes in free market, personal responsibility and that it’s the government’s job to ensure our freedom to chase our own goals.
