An ideology as defined by Merriam-Webster is “a systematic body of concepts especially about human life or culture.” This specifically does not relate to politics, but when applied it means a body of concepts that define a country's goals and views of citizenry. All ideologies; religion, communism, socialism, and liberalism have varying traits and goals led by their governments. An example of these differences is that communism values equality while liberalism values freedom. Some do not last too long, while others have spread, liberalism especially. These ideologies also have had opposition throughout history and have had an effect on the entire world. Political ideologies throughout the world, including liberalism as can be seen in Great …show more content…
Socially, prejudice toward other groups of problem come forth. In Iran, the Sunni Muslims are hated due to the country religion being Sunni. This hate culminated after the image of Khomeini whom was a Shiite himself. Other than religious groups, people such as women and homosexuals are retaliated against in religiously based countries; “Religion proposes equally dire outcomes for gays, people who get tattoos, men who get haircuts, anyone who works on Sunday, or who eats shellfish. But the cafeteria religious believers are focused like a laser on gays and find prescriptions for hate in their ancient texts.”(Wingrove) Wingrove believes that religion inside of government only increases hatred toward people that is backed up by text and carried out harshly. Politically, laws form out of the religion as seen in sharia in Iran. These laws affect how the country is perceived by its own people and others. The United Nations for example could nail Iran for its laws that go against human rights. The UN will not do this for fear of worse relations with the Iranians, but it could someday be on the table. Many westerners find Iran’s ways cruel, but they do not know anything different and most support their government's
An ideology is a group of ideas (social, economic, culture, etc) about life and accepted as reality by the majority of people in a society. These set of ideas are used by different organizations in the society such as: school, and government, among other, to reinforce such ideology. In a society an ideology serves as means to perpetuate and justify the power of the dominant group.
Living in the United States some people may forget how closely our political perspectives are to each other relative to those of foreign countries. While there are many political views and stances that an individual might take on any given topic, generally people in the United States fall into one of three categories: liberals, conservatives, and libertarians. Keep in mind that most people will not support all of the ideals of their advocated faction, but they must support the vast majority of them.

In Chapters 2-4 of Political Communication Rhetoric, Government, and Citizens by Dan F. Hahn, the author talks about the different ideologies and talks about definitions. According to Hahn, ideology is society’s belief structure. Ideology can be used in arguments and an example Hahn provided would be apples because of it’s complexity in regards to the variety and so on. One form of ideology is political ideology. Political ideology is society’s political belief structure. The two primary political ideologies in the United States are liberalism and conservatism. Liberalism is founded by two religious arguments and those two arguments are we are created free by God; no one lower can command us and one can make a good mistake as long as one choose between right and wrong. For conservatism, it’s founded by the rules that God provide for humans; no one lower can alter the rules and one can make a good mistake as long as it is in
Ideologies are referred as a set of ideas and values that provides a base for organised political action. They justify and influence the different theories of society and human nature. Ideologies have a big impact on policy making. Democratic and Republican parties differ on their ideologies and values, therefore, impacting policy formulation.
Ideology in the general sense of a group of people is something that most parties hate to identify with. The regimes created by Stalin and Hitler were ideological more in the sense that they had a set of beliefs which everyone had to follow and anyone who went against them were subject to punishment by the authorities which even
After World War II the Soviet Union led by Stalin maintained a strong presence and influence in Central and Eastern Europe, specifically, Poland through the communist Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR). In this paper I aim to address the reason why communism and Marxist ideologies were unsuccessfully received in post war Poland. I will be arguing *that Marxism was made into a tool of oppression by the Soviet Union, and therefore became illegitimate in itself. I intend on arguing this theory by investigating the goal of the Soviet Union. In addition to this I will identifying instances where the Soviets and communist puppet parties in Poland had strayed from traditional Marxist ideologies. Finally I will recognize the opposition groups and parties that had formed against the Soviet oppression and instillment of inequality.
“We all want…the same things in life. We want freedom; we want the chance for prosperity; we want to be the best we can be; we want as few people suffering as possible economically; we want healthy children; we want to have crime-free streets; all these things, they’re pretty common…The argument is how to achieve them” (Limbaugh, 2004). A major topic being discussed amongst politics right now is the ideologies of America. Which side holds the better policies for America: conservatives or liberals? Both conservatives and liberals have different beliefs on how the government should partake in interacting with the people, which also involves different viewpoints on certain ideologies. Basically, liberals believe in government having full control,
In the essay “God and Women in Iran”, Peter Singer mentions Iran as the leader of indefensible racial discrimination in the world. He argues that Iranian women have limited opportunities for receiving education and appearing in the society compared with Iranian men. These limitations not only affect women, but also prevents all religious believers other than Zoroastrianism, Judaism, and Christianity from entering universities. It is believed that these issues originate from the Islamic bias of the country’s rulers who are all male and Muslim. However, some of the author’s information is false or distorted, and many of his arguments are invalid. Iran is a country that offers freedom of education for individuals regardless of their race or sex, and the Islamic background of its rulers does not result in discrimination.
When Czar Nicholas and his family were killed by the “Red Army” the whole world was shocked. Americans became fearful of the Communist Party which is sometimes called the “Reds.” They saw communism as a threat to the capitalist economy of the U.S. There was a wave of fear that crossed the nation from coast to coast as the Communist Party gained members. During the Depression, the Communist Party was legal in the United States. There were many people who believed that communism or socialism would take over the American way of life. There were bombings and violence by people on both sides. Some Americans believed that only “true” Americans should live and work in our country. Those people who were immigrants, even if they had been in America
For this assignment, I will compare and contrast the differences between conservative and liberal ideology in the states as well as provide supporting examples to substantiate.
It’s an understatement to say our ideology shapes the way we live our lives every day. It affects the way we view and react to different people. Ideology is a set of beliefs that affects our outlook on the entire world. Most of the time ideology refers to a set of political beliefs or a set of ideas that relate to religious views. In a simpler meaning, ideology means having a views or opinions based on your ideas of that thing.
Marx understanding of society shift into modernism lead to develop a form of communism that would come to be known as Marxism, communism is the economic thought of Marxism. Marx understands that Modernism calls for society to embrace equality for the betterment of society. Part of the problem with Capitalism comes from its exploitation of the working class; Marx understands this problem to be a vein of Pre-modernism and not a pillar of Modernism. Marx calls for the working class to rise up over their bourgeoisie oppressors and seize the equality that rightfully belongs to them. “Society as a whole is more and more splitting up into two great hostile camps, into two great classes directly facing each other – bourgeoisie and proletariat. (Communist pg. 9)” If society wants to embrace modernism, then society needs to shift its focus from fighting each other and one exploiting another to a classless society. Marx highly criticizes the bourgeoisie in The Communist Manifesto, and this stems from the problems they created for themselves and for the rest of society. In their attempt to gain more power, land, and resources, their material conditions, upon the prominence which their families had been formed, were dissipating due to the lack of foresight and selfish greed. If the Bourgeoisie continues to exploit the proletariat then society will head to conflict, as is expected of Pre-modernism, but if the Bourgeoisie cease its exploitation and relinquish its power for the group,
Discrimination has resulted from varying religious beliefs between the Sunni and Shiite Muslims. The main government of Iran has developed discriminatory policies against the Sunni, because it is a theocracy dominated mostly by the Shiite belief. This abuse of power by the Shiite sector of the Muslim community is being exacted upon the Sunnis as payback for recent wrongdoings committed against the Shiites. In addition, the Sunnis have been banned from building mosques in Iran. Despite the similarities in the Islamic religion, the Shiites and Sunnis differ in their interpretation of Islamic law and the rituals. Fueled by these differences, the Shia believe that the Sunni do not
Hey Jacquelyn, I really liked your post. I completely agree with you, I noticed how good some of these ideologies sounded but then found out that Nazis or other bad thingswere created by it. It's wild how the tiny details and fine tuning really plays a factor on how some of these ideology's work out in the end. To your statement that we need to combine ideologies to make it work, I think you're right but I don't think they ever will. Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism are pretty mutually exclusive and rarely do we see a Liberal government practicing conservative views. There should be a balance but if anything we're becoming more polarized and biased. Perhaps one day well change that. Good
