The six documents provided in the appendix can be grouped together in many different ways. Although all of the documents imply ways their respective empires exerted political power, there were some distinctions between them. Additionally, all of the documents incorporate their respective cultures’ beliefs into their governments and methods for exerting political power. Document 1, for example, shows that the Persians incorporated their value of bravery into their method of exerting political power, military conquests. The Greeks and Romans in Documents 2 and 6 incorporated their value of freedom into their methods of exerting political power. The Greeks incorporated freedom by boating about their free democracy while the Romans included the
Chapter one of The American Political Tradition by Richard Hofstadter is centered on the Founding Fathers. The very beginning of the chapter says that the Constitutional Convention was trying to create a government that would pay debts and avoid currency inflation. The Democratic ideas that the Founding Fathers were so against appealed mostly to less privileged classes, and not at all to the higher classes. This chapter says that the Founding Fathers thought that if no constitutional balance were achieved, one specific class or would take over others. Three advantages of a good constitutional government were listed in this chapter as well. One: keep order against majority rule. Two: a representative government. Three: aristocracy and democracy

“WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STREGNTH” This was the party slogan for the political culture in George Orwell’s novel, 1984; a stark, depressing world where “Big Brother” is watching you at all times. The political culture of the Untied States, thankfully, is a much more democratic and freeing environment. “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...” is what we live by, not “Freedom is slavery.” The political culture of the United States is made up of two main concepts: liberty and equality. These will be discussed in this paper.
Gary Johnson's goal to make it to the debates stage this fall with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump took a big leap forward on Monday, as his campaign blew past its one-day fundraising goal of $1.5 million and hauled in $1.7 million.
Machine politicians were an influential factor to urban cities during the wave of immigration. During this era, immigrants were unfamiliar with the urban lifestyle and assimilation was strenuous. It is apparent that Machine politicians helped impoverished immigrants gain a sense of cohesion within a community. For instance, Machine politicians sponsored local events such as picnics, youth clubs, baseball teams, and choirs for immigrants to divert from pubs. This local party organization became an essential institution for the community. Likewise, Machine politicians represented working class Americans, mainly consisting of lower-class immigrants. These groups were supported politically by the machines, which served their interests and helped
The effectiveness of the political compromises that were taken during 1820 to 1861 did little enough to impact sectional tensions in the United States. Sectional tensions had caused a severe division between the North and the South. Political compromises were purposed to resolve the issues between the regions, but only lead to a temporary fix. Slavery was one of the major causes of sectional tensions. With the South in need of a large free-labor force in the cotton industry, the North was quickly transitioning to industrialization. The Compromise of 1820, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Compromise of 1850, were political compromises that were to weak to reduce sectional tensions during 1820 to 1861.
Partisan Politics: A Republican Party Point of View In the 1790s, partisan politics emerged due to the opposing views on how the new nation should be governed. The two parties that developed were the Federalists and the Democratic –Republicans. The Republicans were a group that believed in the strong states’ rights, restricted power for the federal government, and a stern clarification of the Constitution. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison led the party. The Republicans ideal government favored liberty and believed that the government should be receptive to the people. The party believed that the states’ should be dominant in governing because they wanted assurance that individual liberties would be protected from government tyrants.
Political culture is a set of values, beliefs, and feelings that are related to the government, politics and the people. According to political scientist Daniel Elazar, Texas’s political culture is a combination of traditionalistic and individualistic elements, Elazar stated, “The traditionalistic aspects of state politics are exemplified by the long history of one-party dominance in state politics, the low level of voter turnout, and social and economic conservatism. The individualistic nature of state politics can be seen in the support for private business, opposition to big government, and faith in individual initiative”. Living in Texas, the regions are very different from the west, east, north and south regions of Texas. Each region
The American Strategy was to take on the British with guerrilla tactics. Also, their strategy was to run out the clock as I would call it. They kept their army ready to fight at all times and in action. They just hoped for a victory. They figured that the British would eventually give up and tire out, and let them take the win. The overall strategy was to figure it out and react. Their knowledge on the best places to hide, retreat to, and how to defend themselves led them to adopt these flexible tactics used by Washington. The smaller the army was the faster they could move. Sharpshooters were placed in the woods to surprise the British, and take them out one by one. The British were used to fighting face to face in large battles, so this took
Political efficacy is citizens believing that their opinion matters to their government; it is when common people believe that they possess the power to change their country due to trusting and believing in their leaders. Political scientists find it crucial to research such a topic in order to allow its meaning to remain true. Without political efficacy, "the key feature of American democracy:government by the people" becomes severely undermined (Ginsberg, pg 7). Therefore, scientists continue to add it as a priority in attempt to benefit America's government and the people it governs. In my opinion, political efficacy is an important subject for political scientists to research because it proves to the governed that their beliefs and thoughts
