Jerusalem was the center stage for the majority of the important events in the ministry of Jesus Christ as documented in the Bible. One of the most notable miracles, as stated in the Gospel of John, happened at the Pool of Siloam where Jesus cured a blind man. The pool was fed by the water from the Gihon Spring, which is situated in the Kidron Valley. As such, the flowing water from the spring allowed people to use the pool as a mikveh for ceremonial bathing. Also, it was utilized as a vital source of the fresh water for the populations in that section of Jerusalem. Many religious archaeologists searched for the site of this pool because it was believed its discovery would be a turning point in the arena of the Biblical archaeology.
The Pool of Siloam has been cited several times in the Bible.

This pool was the only permanent source of fresh water in Jerusalem. Even though the Jewish Literature, as well as the Bible, claim that the pool was located at the southern end of the City of David, which is the Biblical Jerusalem, its exact location after it was abandoned was not known. For that reason, the article enriches the information found in scriptures because it details the exact position of the pool. The archaeologists, Ronny Reich and Eli Shukron, identified the location of the pool as the King’s Garden toward the Tyropoeon valley. The article is also enriching because it details the times when the pool was created and deserted. The coins containing the stamp of Alexander Jannaeus indicated that the pool might have been built between 103 BC and 76 BC while the additional coins from the age of the Great Jewish Revolt indicated that it was deserted between AD 66 and AD 70. Additionally, the article reveals the size of the pool to be approximately 225 feet long, which is five times larger than any ordinary
a translation for the word “streets” as to “plazas” giving the definition as follows; “A conduit for water, such as an aqueduct.” 7 Miller goes on to translate the word “walls” as “moats”. This translation is not into literal form as we understand the word “wall” but rather this particular word choice for “wall” in biblical time derives from the root translation, “To cut or sharpen.”8 This most makes sense with the understanding that todays modern lexicographers lay out this translation as “ditch”. With all of this knowledge the conclusion remains that they dug ditches while waiting for it to be filled with water, in which is conducive with the arid climate of this
The setting (John 5:1–5). “Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for the feast of the Jews. Now there is in Jerusalem near the sheep gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. One who was there had been an
The Mission deepened my understanding of Michael Parenti’s claim because it was extremely obvious that Spain and Portugal used the Guarani to advance their society, while setting the Guaranis back.
“Baseball is much more emotion than simply a sport. You can’t really articulate that to somebody who’s never experienced it before.” This quote was said by Larry Baras in the film Holy Land Hardball. It is an important quote to the film because it displays the film’s overall theme that it is trying to say to the viewers. This film uses globalization through baseball to depict some important aspects that we have learned throughout this course.
The City of God is based on actual events that occurred in Rio de Janeiro during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The movie is about the rise and fall of a fearsome sociopath gang leader Li’l Ze, who reigned as king of the drug lords during the 70’s. The first part of the movie illustrates some of the forces that mold Li’l Ze into the man he becomes, while the second half shows his ruthless leap to power, followed by the war he wages against opposing gang leaders Carrot and Knockout Ned. The film is narrated by Rocket, a photographer who exists on the outskirts of Li’l Ze’s circle of dominance and control. In the film the city is filled with ruthless acts of delinquency and is basically in
On November 18, 1978 more than nine hundred people died in one of the largest mass murder/suicides in history. The man that implemented and carried out that atrocity was James Warren Jones, otherwise known as Jim Jones, a self proclaimed Second Coming (God). His exposure to an intensely emotional Pentecostal church service influenced and shaped his future beliefs and actions. In 1960, despite his lack of theological training, Jim Jones became an ordained minister. He made racial equality one of goals. Jim Jones also used fear arousal to recruit his followers by Genocide and thermonuclear war.
“Certainly, the world without the Jews would have been a radically different place. Humanity might have eventually stumbled upon all the Jewish insights. But we cannot be sure. All the great conceptual discoveries of the human intellect seem obvious and inescapable once they had been revealed, but it requires a special genius to formulate them for the first time. The Jews had this gift. To them we owe the idea of equality before the law, both divine and human; of the sanctity of life and the dignity of human person; of the individual conscience and so a personal redemption; of collective conscience and so of social responsibility; of peace as an abstract ideal and love as the foundation of justice, and many other items which constitute the
King David proved to be a wise and effective leader for Israel. However, it can be said that his son, Solomon, made several mistakes during his reign. Many of his problems originated from his Temple, a stucture that was conceptualized by his father to be a deterrent against the paganism, which infested the land. Yet, it seemed as if several of Solomon’s policies actually encouraged paganism rather than deter it.
Reverse Logistics. Once a customer places an order for an item and the item has an associated return value, the GCSS-A system populates a list that so that all parties can see and know what part needs to be returned and that it indeed has and associated return value. This is the true start point of the reverse pipeline of the Army’s supply chain. The Army’s reparable management process recovers and repairs assets (repair parts) to replenish serviceable inventories and satisfy the equipment readiness requirements. Commanders are responsible to ensure that their subordinate units are in compliance with local policy and Army publications (US Army, 2014). The Army uses a system call Standard Pricing (SP), which enables the Army to receive a
One day in class with the professor Joseph Hoolbrok, I was thinking about which essay would be easier to do, but then I thought about how interesting would be to know about other religions, costumes and different traditions. One friend of mine works in events in a Jewish temple and I asked him if I could go there to do a site visit. The Jewish temple I went is called “Dor Dorim” and is ubicated in Weston, Florida. As Christianity is my religion, in this site visit essay I am going to talk about the Jewish ceremonies, their sacred days and their traditions.
Have you ever noticed that when people talk of Jews, at least in a protestant church, that the Israelite legalism, rituals, dress and hair standards are the first things to mind? The topic of Judaism may come with stereotypical opinions and “Christian Judgement” that are without merit or understanding. Judaism, by a Christian worldview, had to change after Pentecost, since the animal sacrifice to atone for sin Christ completed on the Cross. However, Judaism does not accept this truth of Christ and His work on the cross, but Judaism remains in the world. So, what was this change in Judaism and when did it take place? There have been numerous fluctuations within Judaism, only the theme constructed in this essay has its foundations around the most important facet of Judaism- the Temple. With the Temple in the forefront of this essay, we will discuss the modifications that Judaism went through, at what time, different perspectives that the destruction of the Temple had, and how the Christian sect views these vagaries. The Temple destruction of A.D. 70 converted the Jewish faith in its singular fashion, while, at the same point, the Jewish faith never had a total change by always changing throughout time.
John composed this book to show how glorious messiah by using the miraculous signs. It is believed that Jesus performed seven Gospel Signs to prove that he was the messiah. One of the signs that Jesus used happened in Cana in Galilee when he turned water into wine. Jesus was attending a wedding ceremony together with his mother and the twelve disciples. At some point the host announced that they were out of wine and Jesus offered to help by changing 180 gallons of water to vintage wine. This miracle signified that God was present in his life and accommodative. He made his disciples to believe in him (Harris,
Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world. Jewish people have suffered persecution through the holocaust, they were left with nothing. No leader or land to call their own as everything was taken from them.
The Israel-Palestine Conflict The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a part of the greater Arab-Israeli long-running conflict in the Middle East. The main point of this conflict is the existence of the state of Israel and its relations with Arab states and with the Palestinian population in the area. The idea and concept of Israel was born in the mid 19th century. Jews of Europe and America wanted a place for their homeland, where they could go and be with others of the same race and religion. Palestine was chosen because of its religious routs from The Bible as the “promised land” from God, and the motherland of Jews fled, known as the Diaspora.
it’s quite a image, Ophelia, topped in flowers, singing to herself because the current pulls her underneath the water. It’s particularly quite a image once you notice that Gertrude stood there and watched the entire factor.
