After the decline of Rome when the papal seat was moved to Avignon, there was a time of strengthened power beginning in 1420 when Pope Martin V moved the papal seat to Rome again. Once there the following popes pursued to have a large position in the Italian government. As for acomplishments, it depends on how you define accomplishment.
