The first chapter focuses on animators and studios that found a source of inspiration from modernist paintings to grabbing people's attention through their contemporary, eye-catching art. The “New
The set design was beautiful and colorful. The actors were able to use all of the space provided and there was not one space not used. The set design was not too distracting to the play and you were able to focus on the actors. The set design contributed to the mood of the play with its bright, spunky colors and the rolling-trees used made the set menacing when it needed to be. The set is symbolic with “Sleepy Hollow
Upon entering the museum I was bombarded by this 12 x 45 ft. architectural painting. Almost resembling the museum building itself. With sharp horizontal and verticals lines, this multi colored piece reminded me of our last piece from project 8. Using a variety of colors with no obvious correlation, the clash of colors instantly made me reflect on how I could improve future and previous projects alike. The amount of straight lines in different lengths and widths, also reminded me of our piece from project 1. With no curves and lines going every which way, its amazing how a piece made entirely of lines with no figures could be so captivating.
Set design is used to contrast the different lifestyles of Andrea and Miranda. The set design of Andrea’s apartment is ordinary, small and cramped with little space. The design of Runway’s office that is extravagant and spacious with a clean, white look. Also, the design of Miranda’s huge, classy-looking and perfectly neat home. The house has grand stairs, fancy furniture and everything looks very organized and neat.
Beyond showing facts, diagrams can also visualise imagination. It can change a readers view from a fictional concept into a realistic concept or it can build up an image that is non–existent to demonstrate an idea such as an architectural plan. Although the building doesn’t exist yet, a diagram can aid in picturing how the end product would look. Another example being Harry Potter, a fictional story created by J.K Rowling whereby Harry’s so-called ‘Maurauder’s map’ has been made visual. Having this visual diagram of the map and wizard school, the audience are able to visualise how the designer actually envisioned them. Consequently, by providing the reader with a visual, it leaves them with little to no room for their own interpretation. This shows the visual rhetoric’s of graphic design.
Last week, I attended Cal Poly’s production of the Crucible that was shown in Spanos Theatre. The original playwright is Arthur Miller; In the school’s adaption of the play, it was directed by Heidi L. Ness and consisted of a cast of about 20 actors. The overall production of the play was well done, but the element that especially stood out was the set design. Pegi Marshall, the Scenic and Lighting designer, did an excellent job in setting the arrangement of the props and overall structure of the set. The small details added were notable because they boosted the overall success of the play by working hand-in hand with other elements to make the play stronger.

A visually engulfing and diverse piece, Joe Tilson’s Nine Elements uses a wooden relief with acrylic, pearl and candy paint, to represent those elements that make up mass media pop culture. Tilson uses defined iconography that visually absorbs the viewer through its differentiation within the symmetrically structured borders of the wooden relief. It is a piece that allows the observer freedom to use the representative symbols of senses and concepts present in our every day life to take their own meaning of the piece.
From the Off-Broadway play Poor Behavior, I give you John Lee Beatty’s scenic design. What most caught my eye was the full kitchen set. Though it may not have been a working kitchen, the elements are all so real, right down to the hardwood floor. Beatty took time to make the kitchen scene to look realistic by adding even the smallest elements, drying rack, oven mitts, rug, etc, to the set. The texture in the surrounding walls and ceilings made this scene feel like it could have been in a hollywood film set.

An architecture scavenger hunt is an exercise where a person – the hunter – would go out and scout several different buildings primarily for the different and iconic architectural designs. The success of the scavenger hunt depends on the number of buildings a person is able to identify and the variations in the design of the identified buildings. It would not be essential to go round recording similar designs. The most iconic designs today are the Romanesque designs because of the History of the Ancient Romans and how they influenced modern civilization. In addition, many Romanesque designs are showed on Television. In this particular scavenger hunt,
Bass’s designs seem to appear as if they’re cut out from construction paper and pasted onto the page in an orderly manner. He plays with simplicity, minimalism, and iconic and stark imagery. These qualities in his work stand out from the crowd and helped him develop his own personal and iconic way of design. He is proof that simplicity in design can be just as effective as embellished works, if not more.
The document will examine an Art period which has influenced the appearance and design of video games. This will include the topic of the Edo period of Japan and how it affected generations of artists to the modern day.
The layout, designed objects, and logo of iPic Theater contributes to its elegant and luxurious nature. Although there are many businesses that are being established, some are definitely more appealing than others. One factor that contributes to their appeal to the masses is the way they designed their business. Each of their designs is created with a reason, as design “is the conscious and intuitive effort to impose meaningful order” (Papanek, 4). Therefore, analyzing the design of a business is essential in order to decode the nature that the business wants their customer to experience. Furthermore, one can see how design is “... a process of layering, in which new developments are added over to what already exists” (Heskett, 9). For instance,
Meredith Davis’s book “Graphic Design Theory” was published in September 2012 by Thames & Hudson. This book blends a study of historical thinking of design with contemporary / modern approach to it. It also suggests students to critically analyse their work and asks them to adopt the design theories to embellish their practical design work as it will help them construct better work. This book also helps in understanding the consumers and the history of Graphic Design and also talks about a range of theories and introduces a collection of concepts and sources for future use and reference. In this book, Meredith Davis talks about the relationship of visual representation to the contexts of design. It talks about focusing on the broad and long term aftereffects of design and not to design only for the moment and responding to prompt needs.
