Portrayal of Mr. Darling The book Peter and Wendy by J. M. Barrie is a story of a young girl named Wendy Darling and her two brothers, John and Michael. The Darling children have imagined an island called Neverland and the wonderful people and creatures that live there. They imagine a boy named Peter Pan who flies around the island battling the infamous Captain Hook. Even Mrs. Darling knows stories of Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up. Peter comes to their house to listen to Wendy’s stories. One night Mrs. Darling spots Peter and catches his shadow after it becomes detached when the window clips it off. She locks it in a drawer for safe keeping. Peter returns while Mr. and Mrs. Darling are out attending a party to retrieve his shadow. This time Wendy wakes up and catches Peter in her room. After helping him with his shadow Peter invites Wendy to come back with him to Neverland. She wakes her brother and Peter teaches them to fly. The Darling children and Peter Pan fly off to Neverland as their parents rush home from the party to stop them. In Neverland the children and Peter go on many adventures and battle the notorious Captain Hook. The story of their adventures has been made into several different films, each taking a different perspective on how the characters are portrayed.
