In hopes to reduce the amount of traumatic injuries that occur there has been several change in specific things like equipment, sports rules, or the times and locations in which the sport is taking place (Harvey, 2013). There are many different ways most injuries come about, but one main cause may include the impact of competitiveness. Picabo Street, who is a two-time Olympic medalist in alpine skiing and a youth sports parent stated that, “Competitiveness at the you sports level is an important life lesson learned on the playing field but is often misinterpreted to have a ‘win-at-all-costs’ mentality.” This can be further related to the fact that children may simply ‘brush-off’ an injury that may have occurred just so they can receive playing time to satisfy their family and friends (Parents and Coaches, 2013). As a young athlete one may suffer from social drawbacks because they may be focussing and spending most of their time training in a specific sport. This can develop a weak relationship with both their family and friends (Geier, n.d.). This can cause many problems because most children look up to their parents immensely and need to spend a large amount of time with them. Having said that parents can cause many difficulties with their child and the sport they are playing.
