“Radio reaches more than 68% of U.S. consumers ages 12 and older on an average day.” (newsgeneration.com, 2014) I selected a career in radio because I love listening to and being around music, I love meeting new people, and I love journalism. Radio announcer’s present music and news and some may provide input on topics or interview guests. Some announcers act as emcees or DJ’s during events hosted by the radio station or during other events like at weddings, parties, or clubs. Announcers announce station programming information, the weather, the time, and commercials. (BLS.gov, 2014) “Radio represents nearly one quarter of the time Americans, Adults ages 18 to 64, spend with media each day.” (newsgeneration.com, 2014) Announcers need to keep up with current topics and will sometimes have to research topics so that they can talk about them later on their shows. Radio announcers also make promotional appearances at public or private events such as concerts. (BLS.gov, 2014) “242 million people listen to the radio each week” (newsgeneration.com, 2014) Radio announcers may also work the studios equipment, air advertisements, and other recorded material. At many radio stations, announcers do much of the work usually done by editors and broadcast technicians, such as broadcasting program schedules, commercials, and public service announcements. (BLS.gov, 2014) With a career in radio one would have a positive work environment. There are different shifts in the radio business and
According to Covil, “Radio is the one media that has had the greatest impact on sports and the audience. There is no other form of the media that covers the different levels and varieties of athletics more than radio.” Radio has the abilities or skills that other media cannot match and the first connection is formed between the broadcasters and audience.
Taylor Sampson interviewed Jay Welsh, current Florida Virtual School instructor in Journalism and seasoned broadcast journalist to talk to him about the career of journalism. When asked what would all aspiring journalists study and do before entering the profession he states “Number one is a great writing education. Very little is done without a script, and you are responsible for writing that script.” He also says to follow your passion “There is all types of different fields (for journalism careers). Mine was sports. For others it might be politics, fashion, wild life.” He even says every aspect of life has a journalist path. “The last thing would have to be comfortable speaking. You’re going to be in front of people. It can be a bit egotistical if you like being the center of attention; because that’s what you are.”
First I would like to identify who the film includes on its radio broadcasts. There are essentially two types of people featured on the broadcast: the radio talk show host and his co-commentator and his callers. The first use of radio in the film is that of a radio talk show, hosted by “Slam and Sammy,” that focuses primarily on the Permian Panthers’ football team. Also featured on the show are callers that are most likely from the local community surrounding the support of the Panthers. It is not made clear until halfway through the film at the start of a football game that Slam and Sammy are also the commentators for the football games and that the games are broadcast, most likely on the same radio station. We are made aware of this fact around fifty minutes into the film when we hear, “You’re back with mojo radio. It is Slam and Sammy.” In trying to detect the difference between the announcers, the voice we hear the most seems to be the main host, while the other voice (it is slightly unclear who is Slam and who is Sammy) seems to be more of a color commentator that allows the lead announcer to do most of the talking.
As a sports director, his job is to report on local sporting events, such as Penn State football games. Though he loves his job, it is a huge time commitment. He enjoyed this very much when he was younger and only had to worry about himself, but now that he has a family and grandchildren, he wishes he knew how strict his schedule would have been. He also urges those starting out in the field to not get discouraged with the hierarchy within the field. Though sometimes you must make sacrifices to cover an event you may not necessarily want to attend, as you become more experienced you are given more preference over the events you wish to cover. It is also important to remember that you need to cover what the stations tells you because they are basing which events to cover on the audience, which is the most important component in this, or any other television related,
When you’re a TV announcer, you have to do a lot of things. You may have to read scripts or announce artists performing in a concert. You are required to record commercials for later broadcast or read news flashes for viewers (or just regular news for viewers). You have to control consoles and coordinate game shows. Besides all those responsibilities, there are many more jobs you have to do as a TV\ radio announcer besides announcing.
Ricky Martin fans are more likely to listen to music through AM/FM radio, video streaming, & free online radio
Every news broadcast begins with music and progresses, just like any narrative. There are characters, a setting, rising actions,a climax and a resolution. These
Radio was a very important transmission mode. The radio’s main function was to deliver citizens the necessary information in a way that was easy to understand, while at the same time making sure the news agencies earned sufficient ratings and to profit. The radio companies had to make the radio programming easy to understand to the average citizen, because “[t]he education of many Americans had ended after freshman year in high school. (Horten, p.
“The claim ‘I listen to everything’ familiar as a response to those who ask a student about his or her preference in music, is becoming more and more accurate” (Brackett, 577). This quote is at least six years old and it is true even today. Music sites like ITunes, Spotify, and Pandora give access to so much music. Listeners can make playlist; create radio stations of similar songs, get information about different bands and artist, and have access to this sites whenever they want. With so many options to choose from for music, it has made it harder for younger generations to find popularity in just one band or one style of music. If the 1960’s had the availability of music that we have today The Beatles and other British Invasion groups would not have been as successful and made such an impact with American music. The reason that bands like The Beatles were able to become so popular was because of their great music, but also because no one has heard of them and that style of music. From the 1930’s -1990’s public radio was one of the only ways to hear the popular bands of the day, without actually going to one of their
Though newspaper I met older students, many of whom are still my mentors and some of my closest friends. Being in journalism, pushed me far out of my comfort zone. I have interviewed everyone from the janitor responsible for the first floor restrooms to the superintendent. I have given presentations to audiences of over three hundred people. I have planned field trips, meetings, and interviews. The Heritage Journalism Department has shaped me into the leader

The radio is one of the most influential pieces of technology ever invented. From political debates to Taylor Swift’s latest hit, with the help of the radio, society stays informed on a plethora of topics. Freddie Mercury wasn’t lying when he said, “and everything I had to know, I learned it on my radio.” In almost every country in the world, there is at least one radio station used to broadcast news to it’s people. Since the creation of the FM radio, it has been used to reach out to people over a certain area and keep them informed about the society they live in. During the 1930s and the 1940s, the radio played a very important role in history; it was a tool used during World War II by America, Great Britain, and Nazi Germany. By sending
The radio is the oldest use of media for music. It has not lost its importance in spreading music though. Bands today still rely on the radio to help spread their music so people will want to but their albums. For a band to gain an audience and to get people to buy their albums they
