Being 19 and graduated from highschool I've had my fair share of good and bad teachers. I feel like the main 4 effective characteristics of a teacher are, a good communicator, a good listener, being understandable, and having good sense of humor. Being a good communicator plays a huge role into being an effective teacher. Many students will have tons of questions, and you're not able to answer those questions in an effective way then you're setting your kid up for failure. Also, being able to communicate doesn't just mean being able to talk with students, you have to also deal with parents and be able to talk with on a professional level. Being able to communicate is one of the top things a teacher should have down and ready to go once school starts. Being a good listener to me, shows that you actually care what the student have to say. In my past I've teachers who didn't even bother to care what I said, so I took that as disrespect and why should I show you respect if it's not coming back the other way? As a teacher you have to realize students care a lot about what they tell you and they trust you that you're listening. No, you're not going to remember every little thing a kid tells you, but at that moment they expect you just to listen and give some type of reaction or response. With being understandable I take it from a personal experience. When I was younger my family was going through some things and I missed a lot of school. Once I got back the teacher didn't even
When teachers show respect to their students, they are creating an environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves; students learn to respect the educator as well as their peers. Essentially, showing respect for students not only exemplifies appropriate student behavior, but also lets them know that they are worthy of respect even in the face of misbehavior. Setting high expectations for students and believing in their abilities to achieve are equally prominent characteristics for teachers to have. Many students are only going to do the bare minimum of what is required, so setting high standards is significant. It signifies that educators are ensuring that students are getting the most out of an education—challenging them to live up to their fullest potential. When educators believe in their students, they push them to succeed. Educators should be a source for guidance and encouragement, especially when students are feeling discouraged or just need someone to give them an extra push. Furthermore, educators need to
This essay contemplates my individual development, skill acquisition and exploration of teaching approaches; throughout and beyond the International Teacher Training Organisation (ITTO) program. The problems I encountered will be discussed; and their relation to establishing where my wealth of primary teaching experience aligns with English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching approaches. For example; efforts to reduce my teacher talk time compared to primary school education was important, correcting pronunciation in an appropriate manner and correctly pacing both my speech and activities were areas of development that were observed, reflected on personally and subsequently acted upon.
While there are many ways to be an outstanding teacher, every high-quality teacher should, in my opinion, have these skills and dispositions:
Effective communication is important with children, young people and adults to help build a positive relationship, effective communication is about being easily understood and using positive communication which will then ensure the child or young people to feel comfortable in their settings as you will be a vital role model for the child or young person it is important to use effective and positive communication as well as using language they clearly understand. Having a positive relationship benefits everyone and there are some effective communication techniques that are really key to achieving this. Effective communication is important so there are a number of strategies that can be used to make it easily understood and improve the effectiveness of the communication. positive communication in a classroom will help the children feel comfortable in your presence your own communication must always be positive and use language that will be understood by children and young people. Positive communication will promote trust which is important when working with all ages. By demonstrating the right kind of behaviour in different circumstances as well as body language the children and young person will gain in confidence. But not all children have access to consistent and effective communication so it is important that they see this at school and
A fellow educator would hear these answers as examples of the teacher’s ability to engage students in every lesson, her desire for all students to succeed, and her competence in subject matter. Although an outstanding educator exudes many other characteristics, these three qualities are essential for one to be considered an outstanding, high-quality teacher.
Communicating with young children is totally different than communicating with other students in general. A teacher must be able to communicate with the children at their own level. His way of delivering a knowledge or a lesson should be simple so that it is easy for the children to
A teacher should be committed to the school for which she is employed. She should give an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. She should show professionalism at all times. She should be respectful to her peers and always subject to authority. She should report for duty on time.
I believe there are many skills and attributes that are necessary to an outstanding teacher; one’s ability to keep students engaged, the desire to see all students achieve, and knowledge of the content taught are attributes of an outstanding educator.
Good communication is a criterion that sets many students apart in terms of traits. This is useful when building any form of rapport between them and the lecture or tutor. A student that respectfully communicates has also come out as self-motivated and is more likely to get more help from the teacher since their problems are aired out effectively. Students that do not communicate can be misjudged and mistaken for lack of motivation and self-confidence. In addition, students who are good communicators are made, not born (Floyd, 2013).
In this first unit of The First Days of School, Harry Wong presents three characteristics of an effective teacher. The three characteristics are: has good classroom management skills, teaches for mastery, and has positive expectations for student success.
One of the most essential exercises when in comes to professional development as an instructor is to continuously reflect on your perspective, methodology, instruction and behavior within your profession. Doing so ensure that you a growing and improving on teaching skills and building on old strengths to benefit you as an instructor but especially the students that you serve.
Another point that makes a good teacher would be his/her patience. Teachers should not get upset or even worse, give up on the students who are not so strong in their studies. Instead, they should have the patience to slowly coach them, give them extra lessons, and find different ways to encourage them. Let them know that the teacher
A philosophy of mathematics should be included in an excellent philosophy of education. A philosophy of mathematics should include your thoughts and ideas about what mathematics education is, what impact it has on society, the qualities that make a good teacher, a teacher’s role, research on the standards and instructional strategies, and ways to ensure student are able to learn mathematic concepts in your classroom.
