Being in rough times can cause many people to become emotionally distressed. However, having a positive mindset helps to make it bearable. Finding the light in the darkness can help to sustain even the most horrendous situations as did Anne Frank in “The Diary of a Young Girl” and Shmuel in “The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas”. Thinking about the future, staying positive, and being grateful help to pull you through the roughest. To begin with, thinking about the future can help to push you. As paraphrased in “The Diary Of A Young Girl” it states “We are even so selfish as to talk about “after the war,” brighten up at the thought of having new clothes and new shoes”. This justifies that when they talked about their futures after the war it helped to make their day a lot better. Also in the same passage “So I go on again with fresh courage, I think I shall, because I want to write!” this indicates that as her ambition of being a writer grows she doesn’t seem to think about the circumstances that she has to live in. …show more content…
As shown in “The Boy In The Stripped Pajamas”, Shmuel kept a positive mindset about his life in the camp despite the crucial conditions he lived in he always found a way to be motivated and happy. This helps to show that even when times get rough you can always find a way to make it through. Also in the same passage, despite having to move Bruno kept finding new ways to keep a happy mindset such as exploring and making a friend. This illustrates that by Bruno finding ways to stay happy he kept a positive mindset helping him to like where he now
One thing that is important to know is that when things get tough to carry on. During tough times most people get lost in the bad things that happened, but what they should do is keep going and realize that things will get better. In NightJohn by Gary Paulsen, shows that people can preserver through tough time and keep going.
“Hard times are about losing spirit, and hope, and what happens when dreams dry up.” (225) In the novel Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse, Billie Jo, a young girl living in the Oklahoma Panhandle, finds herself in a tough situation when she sees her mother, the “glue” of her family die, and her beloved farm fail. This situation causes Billie Jo to look for hope to help her get through this tough stage of her life. Similar to Billie Jo, during a person’s life, when he or she is in a hardship or in a tough time, usually, the only thing that gets them through is hope.
Showing a positive attitude can make dealing with a conflict much easier. An example of this would be Anne Frank during world war 2 when she kept a journal. In her writings she refers her journal as “Kitty” as if she were writing to a friend and keeps her writing formal. Anne Frank also writes in light and happy tone writing things like “ It's more like being on vacation in some strange pension” in paragraph 18 and “It looks much more cheerful” in paragraph 19 when she is hiding in a damp lopsided building. This shows even though Anne is in a terrible position she remains positive, thinking only about the good. As a
In “The Diary of a Young Girl” the author states, “But as you can see, Kitty, I'm still alive, and that's the main thing” (Frank). Since Anne had a positive attitude about the situation she was in, it helped her realize that she should be thankful for the little things. It also helped her to forget about the hardships and celebrate the jubilant times. In “Dear Miss Breed” the author states as she was on her way to a Japanese internment camp, “One of the most beautiful scenery was when crossing a bridge which was right above the Colorado River” (Oppenheim). Louise Ogawa had a cheerful attitude and she gained positive experiences during her trip. As she was looking at the river, it helped her forget for a while about the things she is about to face. In the article “How Your Attitude Affects Your Reality” Honoree Corder states, “When something less-than-fantastic happens, you can respond or react. Choose to respond in whatever way is appropriate and then press the reset button on your attitude” (Corder). During a hard time, having a change in attitude is key, and very important. Having a negative attitude, however, will not help relieve the pain that is being felt. A hopeful and sanguine outlook on a situation will help to not focus on the unfortunate things in
This book as well as many others is inspiring in many ways and proves that in tough times you always need to find that positive and run with it. Don’t dwell on the negatives because life will be so difficult. Things happen and people change in ways we don’t want them to and that is just how it
To have hope is to be able to see the light amid the darkness. This is a notion shown in Ned Vizzini’s “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”. The protagonist is a teenage boy named Craig, who struggles with depression. One night, Craig checks himself into a hospital because of his suicidal thoughts. He then gets placed in the adult psychiatric ward called Six North. The novel “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” demonstrates that it is crucial to remain positive during hard times as there will be better days, with the usage of conflicts and characters. This is important because everyone undergoes hardships at some point in their life and must be able to prevail.
Once upon a time there was a unicorn named Miss FesebelleBesebelle who was put in jail after eating the waffle guards at candy castle. Jelly Bean Jeorge put her in jail but he is retired now. Miss FesebelleBesebelle knew there would be a day she got put out. She was so tired of being in that jail, but as she was in there, she would take hours and hours thinking and thinking how to escape and what to do when she was out. Then, all of a sudden a light bulb went over her head.
When people go through something difficult it can change them. Making them who they are, it can change them for the bad or good. Therefore, hardships can greatly influence a person’s life by making them appreciate all the things that make life enjoyable.
In Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the shrine to Thomas A’Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims’ stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller’s Tale and the Man at Law’s Tale. The Man at Law’s Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller’s Tale.
On more than one occasion I have heard those ego lifting words, “You should write a book.” Several times I have taken those words to heart and sat down at my computer with every intent to put words to page only to fail miserably in my feeble attempt to come up with a coherent thought that lasts past the second paragraph. The questions I faced as I began to write then still plague me today; do I really have anything to say, how should it be said, and am I capable enough to do it. It was during my first tenure as a youth pastor that I was given an opportunity to write for a monthly denominational magazine that would make me seriously question if I could ever write.
I think that a positive attitude is most important because it can get you through anything if you believe that you can. After Mr. Gardner thought he was through all of the “tough” times and he had sold his last bone density scanner, the government had taken all but twenty-one dollars of his money. Although at times he was angry he thought of the future, what he can accomplish, and
Shmuel, went from being lonely and sad, to be more cheerful after meeting Bruno. Bruno gave him support, food and friendship things that he didn’t have inside the camp. One day, they planned to go and find Shmuel’s dad inside the camp and marched together with other people not knowing that they were marching to their death.
From my perspective, the mind always seemed like a complicated and intricate puzzle. It was a puzzle that I had no desire to evaluate or even begin to learn more about. It was something that I had just accepted because I believed it was above my understanding and much too complex. However, I never thought to look at just one small piece of the puzzle. If I could just focus on one little section, maybe I could increase my overall knowledge of the mind. By reading the book, Mindset by Carol S. Dweck, I was given the opportunity to be able to specialize on one very crucial part of our mind. A part that deals with how we view ourselves and others, our communication, and the reasoning behind our actions. This is called our mindset. While reading
People say that a positive attitude is the key to success. My grandma always told me that she had a negative attitude towards love. It seems strange I know but she despised couples. She told me that she was jealous of other people, especially her older siblings. Love was something she was afraid of because she didn’t want to get broken up with. When she was about 16 she decided that if she got broken up with that she would just shake it off and wait for the right person to come along. She said there was no point in having a negative attitude towards something so comforting. When she was 17, she met my grandpa. They fell in love and when they were 18 they got married. If you have a positive attitude, then you can make more friends, have better job interviews, and learn to cope with rejection from others.
Many of us had been though a couple of rough times and some pretty amazing ones as well. Difficult times for most people can take away their energy, taken away emotions, and break a person’s spirit. The good times on the other hand can lift someone’s spirit up, boost their self-esteem, and show signs of our capability. This is called self-efficacy, it connects with four of the 6 dimensions of health mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. These effects tell people to feel good about themselves, help them control their social anxiety, and maintain a positive lookout on life.
