“Abortion is defined as the ending of a pregnancy before birth” (O’ Brien). “Half the percentage of women getting an abortion done is below the age of 25” (Buzzle 1). “Abortions caused by rape, incest and possible health concerns to mother or baby constitute just seven percent” (1). A little more than half of the abortions performed, are on women who have never been married (1). Abortion is one of the most debated topics in today’s society (1). Many people have opposing sides, in which they take because they do not agree with the concept of abortion (1). There are two main sides to the argument of abortion (1). One side of the argument is that abortion should be considered murder because people believe that the life of the child starts as …show more content…
There are also pro-choice groups, who are also against abortion (15). The pro-choice groups include National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and the National Organization for Women (15). The pro-choice members go as far as contacting the lawmakers that are involved with abortion, holding demonstrations and going against abortion topics in court (15). In other countries, the abortion laws are different from the laws in the United States (O’ Brien 16). Since many third world countries are over populated, abortion is a critical tool for population control (16). In some countries, abortion is used as another method of birth control. (16). In China, abortions are very common since there is population control in China, meaning there is a certain amount of children a family can have (16). China women are given an option to have an abortion anytime through her pregnancy (16). Russia allows women to have an abortion up to the twenty-ninth week of pregnancy. In Japan and the United Kingdom, women are only permitted to have an abortion up until their twenty-fourth week of their pregnancy (16). Canadian laws allow women to have an abortion throughout anytime of their pregnancy and for any reason (16). The abortion procedures vary in many ways (O’ Brien 16). Up to the first seven weeks of a women’s pregnancy, abortion is done by a procedure called Manual
“How can the “Dream” survive if we murder children? Every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his or her mother. The mother decides his or her fate” (Martin Luther King, Jr). This quote, by Martin Luther King Jr, represents how Martin Luther King Jr really feels about abortions, and how abortions relate back to the idea of slavery. As abortions are spreading all across the world many people have wondered if there are any positives to abortions? If there are not any positives to abortion then people may wonder, what are the negatives to abortions, and how do other people feel about abortions.
Abortion is a subject that numerous people have strong opinions about; some believe that it is a form of murder and should be banned, yet others believe that the decision should be for the woman herself to make. In my eyes, the choice to abort or not abort is the woman’s, not the public’s. However, many men disagree with pro-choice.
ProCon.org gave me the laws in abortion and what people believe. In January 22, 1973 Roe v. Wade declared that abortion is a “Fundamental Right”. The supporter identify themselves a pro choice because abortion is right that shouldn't be limited by the government or religious authority. They also said that pregnant women would resort in unsafe illegal abortions if there is no legal option.
“One in three U.S. women will have an abortion in her lifetime. In America two percent of women between 15-44 will get an abortion each year.”(Sharples) Abortion is the act of stopping a pregnancy intentionally, so that the child is not born. Abortion is controversial due to it being a morally and ethically gray area. The most important question is whether or not abortion is morally wrong. If morality wasn’t enough, we then have to ask ethical questions. There are two main groups in this debate: pro-life and pro-choice Pro-life believes that intentional abortion is wrong, while the pro-choice side believes that intentional abortion is acceptable in some circumstances. Due to this controversy abortion has become a popular topic in the debates of the masses.
Have you ever wondered why abortion is such a debated topic. How some politicians use it as a political ploy and others are completely against abortion? Also, if the supreme court says abortion is legal, why have many states added so many restrictions and rules to it. If abortion is legal, why does the government try so hard to make women feel like it isn’t. When did it become ok for the government tell women what and what not to do with our bodies and made our decisions for us? These new abortion restrictions makes it even harder for women to have an abortions, then it already is.
Over 42 million babies are killed in a year because of abortion. That is 115,000 deaths a day. After the case Roe vs Wade was presented to the Supreme Court, abortions have been legal since. In the United States, the topic abortion is very debatable. Many people think that abortion should be illegal because of moral and religious views, while others think that abortion should be legal because of women's’ rights. Despite each view, abortions are becoming more and more common today, especially in the United States. Abortions should be illegal because it is the murder of a human, selfish, and problematic to women's health.
People who support banishing legal abortions are usually referred to as “pro-lifers.” They usually believe in standing up for the unspoken rights of the fetus and believe that the practice of abortion is morally wrong. Expanding upon the theory of predestination, it is believed that the fetus itself has its own freedom, and it is their job to represent and protect those God-given rights.
An Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy. According to Linda Lowen’s research, The World’s Health Organizations estimated that around fifty million abortions happen each year. Since they happen as frequently as 125,000 per day, they have become one of the most talked about topics in the United States (Lowen). Many people have different opinions on this topic. In an overview of the results of a survey conducted, it was found that even though there are that many abortions, twenty-five percent of the students that were surveyed disagreeed with them, forty-four percent are debatable, leaving only thirty-one percent of agreeing with them (Daley). More than half of the United States population thinks that most mothers who have abortions are
Many people don’t quite understand abortion. It is a very serious and disturbing act performed by pregnant women and doctors. When people fully understand what abortion is, they usually have a certain opinion. Their opinion may include if they are pro-choice or pro-life. There are many different reasons and opinions for this global issue. The dangerous and unreasonable process of terminating an unborn child from a mother’s womb has had a negative and positive affect on the world. Abortion has been exercised because of many different reasons, despite holding extreme controversy and having many negative effects on the mothers after the process.
Abortion has always been present around the world and has been a controversial topic. As many people agree or disagree with women’s who have done this during their pregnancy. The loss of an immature embryo or fetus before violability is an abortion. When this happens spontaneously, the word miscarriage is used, the word abortion being kept for the intended removal of the fetus from the uterus. (Oxford, 2001). A woman who has taken the decision to abort, they can only do it during their first, second and third trimester. Abortion does not only hurt the baby but also the person who is involved in this situation and can affect that person not only mentally but also psychological. In some countries, a woman who is seeking for abortion,
Abortion is a very controversial topic that not everyone can speak freely about without getting offended or offending others’ personal views and beliefs. Before 1973 abortion was illegal unless the mother’s life depended on that of the abortion. Women had to go through unsafe and unprofessional means to have an abortion preformed. It wasn’t until 1973, when The U.S Supreme Court sided with Roe, in Roe v. Wade. In the words of Planned Parenthood, “… the court recognized for the first time that the constitutional right to privacy “is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.” (Roe v. Wade, 1973) Pro-choice allows women to have a voice, the power to choose and the opportunity to for once decide for themselves. For the most part abortions take place in the first trimester, adoption is not always an alternative and in some cases of rape or incest an abortion is called for. This is why pro-choice should not be over turned despite what pro-lifers advocate.
Abortions^are^one of the^many controversial topics within the United States today. As defined by the 2016 Merriam-Webster dictionary, an abortion is, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28^weeks of pregnancy.” Abortions have and will always be and will probably always be an opinionated topic.^Within^all^of^the controversy, two groups have emerged. These two groups are referred to as pro life and pro choice. According to Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, those individuals who support pro life believe your life begins at conception, that being the case, abortion in any stage of the pregnancy is murder. They believe that any stage of life is valuable^and the^life of the^unborn baby has the same^rights as the mother. However,^Pro-choice supporters^believe that it is the woman’s right to^choose what she may do^with her own^body.
Many will say that they are pro-life, while others would say they are pro-choice. When it comes down to abortion, there are many arguments and fights about which is right and which is wrong. There is no way to justify what is right and what is wrong because, abortion is neither right or wrong. There are so many factors into why someone would get an abortion. For instance, if they were raped and ended up pregnant, if they financially can’t support the child, or if they physically cannot have the child.
The abortion of a human infant has been so controversial that the prohibition of its process had slowly begun to lose its course. While abortion may be highly controversial in reference to the morality and free will of the human individual, the background and results of such actions are the main ingredients for political, moral, and social chaos in the protest of the free will to make such decisions to take an infant’s short life. This ethical dilemma is one of major political issues that modern-day politicians are having more difficult times attempting to put certain regulations for. This is resulting in the political and judicial debate on whether or not a person has the constitutional right to terminate another person’s life. If I were a politician or Supreme Court Justice, I would have to take
Abortion is a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. There are series of legal, moral and ethical issues which may arise about abortion. Most arguments about abortion are often focused on political insinuations and the legal aspect of such actions. Some frequently asked questions’ regarding the issue is if the practice should be outlawed and regarded as murder or should women have the right to practice it. For example, prior to becoming pregnant, some women feel that they would be able to choose the abortion option without trouble. However, even with reasons why having an abortion would be the best option, some women feel that this decision would not be right for them. On the other hand, some women have a strong belief that abortion is unethical prior to becoming pregnant.
