Services that directly impact the ability of the DLIS to meet its operational exigencies such as DOD Readiness Command, DOD Joint Military Combat Operations Task Force Support, international or national coordinated activities are considered mission critical. While other services, although important, must be made available in a
Sustainment operations include the elements of logistics, personnel, and health services in order to ensure operational success (as defined by ADP 4.0.) If you have ever deployed overseas you have witnessed first-hand methods of sustainment. From the aircraft that moved you and your teams, to the ships that tackles the high seas moving heavy equipment and warfighting
You are the brigade S4 and are planning operations that commence in 48 hours. You are coordinating with the brigade S3 during your planning process to ensure you fully understand the tactical requirements of the operations. Which two principles of sustainment are you applying?
11. prior to deployment, one of the responsibilities of the unit leaders to assist the fst is to reinforce command emphasis regarding which of the following requirements?
Webster defines sustainment as “The act of sustaining; maintenance; support”. ADRP 4.0 states that the endurance of the Army forces is primarily the function of their sustainment. Sustainment determines the depth and duration of Army operations. All over Army doctrine you will see references to sustainment. It is critical to any Army operation no matter how small and simple to large and complex. If leaders do not think about or are afforded the opportunity to plan and coordinate sustainment operations into their task, then the outcome could be devastating. Inadequate sustainment planning not only devastates the mission, but also the soldiers, citizens, equipment and habitat involved. One would think that for sustainment to be successful
ensure an adequate quantity of servicemen. (Woodruff, et. al; 2006) As the conventional military goes, so does its
Army sustainment is based on an integrated process (people, systems, materiel, health services, and other support) indivisibly linking sustainment to operations. The concept focuses on building a combat ready Army, delivering it to the combatant commander (CCDR) as part of the joint force, and sustaining its combat power across the depth of the operational area and with unrelenting endurance (ADRP 4-0, Chap. 1, Intro.) Sustainment maintenance is off-system component repair and/or end item repair and return to the supply system or by exception to the owning unit, performed by national level maintenance providers. National level maintenance providers include the Army
After five deployments including trips to Afghanistan and Iraq, I have seen the full spectrum of the deployment process. I have seen the process for conventional and special forces and how they differ. Over the years, I have experienced how the Army sustains the force and how it has made changes to the process. Sustainment in Army operations is not always smooth and effective.

I would say that sustainment operations in the recent theaters of operation have been a tremendous success. If there have been failures in the realm of sustainment, they have come in the form of paying too much
1. Purpose: To provide a summary on the functional concept utilized to develop and employ sustainment for future Army operations.
The objective of this study is to examine how, with the ultimate goal of joint mission being operational effectiveness, that USSOCOM and USTRANSCOM can 'enable' the mission. Also discussed will be the capabilities and limitations of the available service forces, and considering that these forces were not optimized for the assigned mission, explain which additional forces would be requested and why. Also addressed will be the interdependencies among available and requested forces.
8. Subordinate units will coordinate arrangements through the Brigade S-4 for material support requirements beyond normal supply procedures or if shortfalls exist.
Sustainment is defined by the Army as “the provision of logistics, personnel services, and health service support necessary to maintain operations until successful mission completion.” The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sustain as “to provide what is needed for (something or someone) to exist, continue, etc.; to give support or relief to.”
The core responsibility of DLA Troop Support is to ensure that what our warfighters needs are delivered right the first time at the right price and at the right time. A supplement to the above is stated in the agency’s mission to be sure its providing an “effective an efficient world wide support to our warfighters and other customers”. Another dimension of support the agency provides is humanitarian support all over the world.
