Potential stakeholders are J. K. Rowling, people who have read the Harry Potter books, and people who have not read the Harry Potter books. J. K. Rowling could be affected because she wrote the books and is responsible for their content, including both more explicit societal commentary and metaphors. It could also affect the people who have read the books already by influencing their thoughts about the books and how they interpreted them, whether positively or negatively. In particular, it could affect readers of color, readers of lower socioeconomic status, female readers, and readers from other arguably marginalized groups because of how they may or may not be represented throughout the series. Additionally, this study could affect people who have not read the books at all by influencing their perception of the series and their desire to read it, whether by reducing or increasing it. Again, people’s perceptions of themselves, especially children’s, are influenced in part by external images and representations, or lack thereof, of other people like them. The effective representation of these people could give them characters to empathize with, while the lack of representation may contribute to feelings of isolation. In general, readers that are in marginalized groups may experience feelings of isolation or empathy with issues of social inequality in my research. If they disagree with me, there might also be antagonism, so I will take particular care to acknowledge my biases and try to be as objective as possible in spite of them. On the other hand, readers that see themselves and their problems represented in books they read may agree with findings that say so or may disagree about whether they have privilege if they are unaware of
