Human trafficking is very contradistinctive depending on where you live. In first world countries, human trafficking is not viewed the same as it is in third world countries. Poverty, a common issue in developing countries is undoubtedly a compelling factor in the human trafficking industry. Due to severe living conditions, impoverishment leads those in developing countries to taking drastic measures in order to get through life. Sometimes parents, desperate to repay their debts, sell their daughters to brothel owners in return for a paltry sum. Human Trafficking and Slavery universally happens in the world when individuals are placed or maintained in and exploitive situation for economic gain. Women, men and children are trafficked for a range of different purposes; forced and exploitative labour in factories, farms and private households, sexual exploitation, and forced marriage. Trafficking can happen to all people if the circumstances are right.

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use fraud or coercion to profit from forcing victims in commercial sex acts or labor services ("Human Trafficking".) It is a market-driven criminal industry that is based on the principles of supply and demand, like drugs or arms trafficking. Many components make children and adults susceptible to human trafficking. Traffickers target vulnerable people for a variety of reasons, including psychological or emotional issues, economic hardship, lack of safety, or political instability. Unfortunately, victims rarely seek help due to language barriers, fear of the traffickers and law enforcement, or fear of potential consequences. Knowing how to identify signs of human trafficking is the first step in pinpointing victims. Additionally, we can assist victims by modifying criminal policy, receiving more state funds, participating in organizations, and raising awareness.

Human trafficking are the illegal activity of people, usually for the purposes of obligatory workforce or commercial sexual abuse. In other words, it is also defined as a modern-day form of slavery involving the illegal occupation of persons for exploitation or sexual abuse. Human trafficking is a hidden crime as victims rarely try their best to seek help because of language problems, scared of the abuser and lack of law enforcement. Every year, millions of males, females, and youngsters are trafficked in many countries around the world, including the United States. It is estimated that human trafficking produces many for almost a billion dollar profit per year, and second only to drug trafficking as the most market profit form of international crime. Traffickers use force, scam, or intimidation to lure their victims and force them into workforce or commercial sexual abuse. The trafficker look for people who are susceptible for a variety of reasons, including mental or emotional liability, economic poverty, and lack of a social safety net, natural disasters, or political uncertainty. The trauma affected by the traffickers can be so great that many may not identify themselves as targets or ask for help, even in highly community surroundings.

The main factor contributing to human trafficking is poverty. Poverty occurs in many poor nations because of harsh economic times and low education levels. These factors often leave people desperate for survival for both themselves, and their families. Some parents choose to send their children away to foreign countries to do labor so that they can cut down on their budget that would normally be used for education. Others, however, often choose to move abroad themselves and start a new life. These people are so desperate to find jobs that they often are not aware of the situations that they may be putting themselves in. “Globalization influences human trafficking as traffickers take advantage of new transparent borders, broadband communication, and economic upheaval to prey on those most vulnerable … people are largely defined by their economic worth, and since the most vulnerable have only their bodies to sell (labor … sex) … human beings become commodities and victims” (Burke 2013). Additionally, chapter four defines population and migration as an explanation for human trafficking. As the world’s population increases dramatically, there are many poor and vulnerable individuals who are forced to find a way to survive. “Traffickers are resourceful, inventive, and opportunistic, and can find a way to manipulate … population growth … there is an increase in the supply of potential victims who traffickers can exploit and from whom they can profit” (Burke 2013). Victims are driven into human trafficking because they are unable to sustain themselves living in poverty, or are vulnerable as an immigrant or refugee.

Having a criminal record makes problematic to leave abuse, poverty and prostitution. This causes victims to stay in their situations. Victims outside the sex industry such as agricultural industry trafficked are also victims of the criminal justice system. If these workers resist their unspeakable treatment, they risk deportation. In many cases, employers of the victims threaten to call law enforcement to suppress and or deport their trafficked workers. Even if these trafficked victims ran away, they would be apart of undocumented workers that are subject to the whims of local law enforcement. Women and children leave home in search of better lives and that makes them vulnerable to traffickers (Haerens 28). Traffickers lead their victims to believe that they would have a better life than before. One of the biggest offer traffickers present to their victims is that they will have a job if they go with them, but in the end, they will probably not end up with a paying job (Petriligieri 3). Traffickers offer many other solutions such as a bright future, better standard of living, sense of belonging and love (Pittaro 3). People living in impoverished areas do not have the same opportunity to get an education as we, in the United States, do (“Global Recession” 1). People who are in deep poverty often have few options which pushes them to take risks which in turn puts them at a higher risk of being trafficked. In such cases, impoverished migrants become dependent on brokers to find them jobs abroad and assist in their migration. However, during such a process causes them to drown in debt which locks them into their job. In countries where many people in a population have lost land due to factors such as political discord, crime, natural disasters, etc., human trafficking is a very tangible risk, as landless people are left vulnerable to exploitation.

There are many factors that contribute to human trafficking. These include a high global demand for domestic servants, agricultural workers, political, social or economic crises, government disinterest in the issue of human trafficking and limited economic opportunities (Newton 4-5). Poverty remains the primary cause of human trafficking. According to the United Nations, nearly 2.5 million people from 127 different countries are being trafficked around the world. In Europe, the most common form of trafficking is sexual exploitation. Thousands of women and girls are bought, sold and forced into the sex market each year. These women and girls come from inside and outside the European borders ( Bryfonski 20-21). Europe is not the only country that has fallen prey to human trafficking. In West Africa, two thirds of the population subsists on less that $1 a day. Accepting a job offer for one of their children is often times a survival strategy for the family. Parents defend their choice by stating that it is better for the child to learn a trade than stay at home and starve. Traffickers use a ruse of economic promise

Melanie Orhant, in an article published in the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), noted that victims of human trafficking are so vulnerable that, at times, assist in their vulnerability (Orhant, 2001). She states that immigration has been a major issue, forcing some countries to adopt stringent measures against immigration. As such, migrants seek the services of traffickers to assist them move across borders. They do it so unconsciously, adding on to their vulnerability. As such, the reason why human trafficking is rampant is due to the vulnerability of the victims. Besides being desperate to cross borders, potential victims are desperate for jobs or a better lifestyle. This leaves them prone to the methods used by human traffickers.

Human trafficking is a crime that is vast and ever-growing. It is also hard to identify and prevent, which attributes to the growing industry associated with this crime. There have been researchers who have examined the current data on human trafficking through literature reviews. Unfortunately, there will be limitations to this research because one cannot properly assess all cases of human trafficking; especially because there are many occurrences that go undetected. There have also been researchers who have linked human trafficking with particular criminological theories, in attempt to explain both why traffickers partake in this crime, and how individuals become victimized. This paper will examine 2 of the literature reviews completed, the limitations of those reviews, and 2 theories that may be used in explaining how one may become a victim and trafficker of human trafficking.

A modern day illegal trade of a human beings forced into labor, reproduction, and prostitution is known as human trafficking. There are different types of human trafficking such as sex trafficking, child labor, and domestic servitude. Human trafficking happens everywhere and everyday, but it continues to go unnoticed by humanity. Traffickers’ reason for committing human trafficking is because of poverty, war, and huge profit. Victims that survive can often suffer short or long-term effects that can impact the rest of their life.

Human trafficking is the trade of humans by force, mainly women and female children, for the purposes of sexual slavery, sexual exploitation, and domestic labor. Global human trafficking has often been labeled as modern- day slavery; however the history and causes have been identifiable just as the causes of traditional slavery have been. What causes human trafficking? In this present paper, the hypotheses on the primary causes of global human trafficking will be identified. There are three major themes that cause human trafficking: a nation’s economy, political and legal factors, and social factors that enable the continuance of human trafficking. According to previous research indications of historical influence and social hierarchy have the greatest impact on the causes of human trafficking; these topics will further be elaborated upon during the discussions of political influences and social factors that impact human trafficking.

They are sold to slavery either for sex or labor services. The sad part about human trafficking happens right under our noises. I think in some cases of the Unite States some of larger companies that are outsourcing human trafficking in order to keep their business standards by keeping customers happy. Most underage girls from ages 12-18 are used for human trafficking. Some of those girls are runways, or drug addictive and kidnapping from their parent. Human trafficking is the most profitable slavery around the world. Most of majority of human trafficking victims are very vulnerable such as, selling of small children, young underage women and sometimes elderly adults. I really think if someone who condemns this kind of brutal act toward anyone should be sent straight to electric chamber to die.
