Poverty is a major issue in the United States society today. Cultural, economical, political, and social factors all contribute to poverty. Economic and education development are two major issues that will help prevent poverty. The United States Census Bureau defines poverty as an “economic condition in which people lack sufficient income to obtain basic needs for food, housing, clothing, health services, and education. (U.S Census Bureau)” In other words, poverty is powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom.
Poverty is a problem that the world faces on the regular basis. Poverty in the United States is deteriorating every day and not enough is getting done about it. There are individuals who have the need to help the poor, however nobody knows precisely how to help them. Those who are against poverty concur that something should be done, yet they do not know how to approach the situation in how to get it done. A primary reason for people not taking action is because of lack of information that is provided about issues on poverty. There is no restricted measure of data about poverty. Individuals just need to know where to go to obtain such information. Issues about poverty is not focused on enough by the media to keep America educated on what the nation is proceeding with this issue.
