Praxair: Company Values Praxair is widely regarded as being an environmentally conscious company with an almost impeccable reputation. In addition to their commitment to the environment, Praxair highly values their employees. For the second year in a row, Praxair has been named to the “2018 Corporate Equality Index” with a perfect score. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation reports on corporate policies and practices related to the LGBTQ workplace equality. This report evaluates workplace protection, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Praxair’s Chief Diversity officer Vanessa Abrahams-John stated on receiving the award, “We continue to implement programs, policies and training globally that foster an inclusive environment for all of our employees, which has culminated a score of 100% on this important index. Receiving this external recognition for the second year in a row is a testament to the value we place on diversity and inclusion.” (Targeted News Service). The company has made it part of their mission to provide and equal and safe work environment for all regardless sexual orientation/identity. For years, the LGBTQ community has been fighting for equality. It was only two years ago that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same sex-marriage. The LGBTQ community still faces inequality in the workplace. Businesses can choose whether they want to provide benefits to same sex partners or to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, there is no law legally binding them. I consider this a great ethical decision that shows progressive values. Praxair supports other programs and initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion including: employee resource groups focused on the interests of millennial, women, veteran and other groups, scholarships and training programs for students of diverse backgrounds in STEM and education, and mentoring programs for all employees.
