Throughout American history, freedom of speech has been fought for and granted. Consequently, free speech has gone overboard. In America, people tweet about the president like birds all day; unlike, the Chinese who are precocious with how they represent their president. Throughout American society, cynicism is prevalent, and therefore, the media mocks the president. In the cartoon, President Trump is keen about importing Chinese media culture. However, Trump is reluctant to import anything else from China. The cartoon depicts Trump watching television in an opulent setting and is envious about the Chinese reverence for their president. On the television screen, Chinese president Xi-Jinping is giving a lecture in front of the Chinese flag, and the media is bowing down to him. Trump states, “One thing we should import from China…. The media culture”. In America, the media is granted too much liberty therefore, they ridicule the president. This portrays the Chinese values versus American standards. The curtains in the cartoon are a symbol of opulence. The symbol of opulence in America portrays how spoiled Americans do not appreciate what they have. President trump is wagging his finger at the screen in destress while, his advisor is grimacing. However, the Chinese portray their gratitude to their …show more content…
The president is asking the media to change their attitude towards him. Additionally, the president is also mentioning the fact about the over importation of Chinese goods. Ironically, the curtains and many of the items in the room are probably imported, including the TV screen. These items portray, the plethora amount of possessions that are created in China. The message of the cartoon is that we should import less goods and start changing our attitude. Many economists would agree with Trumps slogan. Since, if America produces goods and changes their attitude, the economy would
Hamilton and Jefferson's opinions were constanting clashing with each others. Hamilton liked the idea of a strong national government meanwhile Jefferson prefered a government controlled by states. This was due to both Hamilton and Jefferson's different ways of growing up and views on who is intelligent enough to control the government. Jefferson also believed that agriculture should be advertised more than the idea of Hamilton's promotion of urban commerce and manufacturing. We see these perspectives in today's world with the different opinions Americans have.
The birds represent Germany and Great Britain, and the ships represent the United States Naval. The big stick is an ideology of “speak softly and carry a big stick” (as cited in Morgan, 1919, p. 216), that is well known as “Roosevelt Corollary.” The artist expresses the intervention that President Roosevelt acted as the police flexing his muscles and standing up against the Europeans from invading Venezuela for repayment matters.
In the cartoon, President Barack Obama is presented in a stereotypical and degrading way. He is drawn to have a very prominent round nose, and much emphasis is placed on his very “large ears”. With this, he is also depicted with a tiny head, potentially hinting at a small brain. In
This political cartoon about Trump uses many rhetorical devices to relay a message to anyone who would so care to look at this particular ad about him having allegedly stolen Putin’s shirt. I believe that the author of this political cartoon was trying to persuade to believe Trump is a bad candidate for the presidency by showing us he has ties with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Do to this persuasion; the effectiveness of this passage is greatly achieved using logos and pathos because it explains how terrible it is to let the leader of the free world have a great relationship with the country that cannot stand us, Russia.
In “Donald Duk,” Chin rewrites the lost of Chinese American history by changing the feminized stereotypes of Chinese Americans. At the beginning, there are a lot of environment factors that have driven Donald to generate hatred towards everything Chinese. For example, his history teacher, Mr. MeanWeight, doesn’t appreciate about Chinese American culture. Also, he always being laughed at his funny cartoon name, “Donald Duk.” Therefore, he formed the attitude of self-contempt of being a Chinese. He always says “they” when he talks about the Chinese American. Chin makes Donald to act a little white racist who doesn’t like everything about Chinese at all. However, the turning points starts from Donald dreams of being his great-great-grandfather.
In a particularly harsh and surprising article on the typically conservative Wall Street Journal editorial page, the writer voices his anger with Trump’s dubitable claims that British Intelligence wiretapped President Trump on behalf of the Obama administration. He concludes his article with the statement, “Two months into his Presidency, Gallup has Mr. Trump’s approval rating at 39 percent. No doubt Mr. Trump considers that fake news, but if he doesn’t show more respect for the truth, most Americans may conclude he’s a fake President.” While this is an especially severe statement, according to the aforementioned Fox News poll, the majority of people “think it’s better for the country if the news media ‘cover the president aggressively.’” The result of this poll is compatible with the public’s positive response to the Supreme Court’s ruling in New York Times v. United States. With the new administration, freedom of the press will remain at the forefront as questions continue to arise about what type of press is best for the
The effect on the audience is essential as his words promise economic prosperity and the people, for economic frustration or other financial struggles, are bound to support his words. Throughout his speech, Mr. Trump creates a distinct nationalistic pride that is meant to motivate the people. To create this nationalistic attitude, he uses the word phrases like “our jobs” “our borders,” “our wealth,” “our dreams” and “American hands and American labor” to summarize in simple short sentences, his economic goals. This nationalistic tone is motivational in nature and is a call to unite efforts and fight for a country that is struggling; To make his call for unity stronger, Mr. Trump utilizes the phrase “We will shine for everyone to follow,” which is a religious reference to the Puritan belief of a City Upon a Hill, to convince his audience that in America “there is no room for prejudice” as they all have the “red blood of patriots.” Trump’s use of vivid imagery is best demonstrated in his futuristic views of the new millennium as he talks about uncovering
Indeed, in an era where news of all kinds is only a click away, it seems odd that the simple cartoon could once have been the most influential form of media in the nation. However, one must realize that the target audience of these cartoons were illiterate immigrants and the impoverished masses; before exposure to Nast’s cartoons, they had no way to know that their beloved Tweed was corrupting politics at all. In addition, these comics were published at a time when the United States had the highest newspaper circulation per capita in the world; everyone had access to these cartoons (Leepson 54). Therefore, Nast could use his illustrations to turn politics into a tangible, understandable topic for the American masses; in doing this, Nast paved the way for future illustrators and journalists, such as Homer Davenport, who went on to caricaturize corruption just as his predecessor had (Wang,
The media has always played an important role in the President’s relationship with the public, but just what kind of affect does it really have on the executive office? The first televised presidential debate in 1960 between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon marked the beginning of a new era – the inaugural shift of the media’s role in politics. Since that time, the media has continued to transform the way the president is perceived by the public through print, broadcast, and more recently, social media. All of said outlets have played vital roles in not only a president’s campaign, but also in their presidency and likability throughout their time in office. While the White House is still the source of most presidential news, the media are the shapers of the story and can frame it pretty much any way they want. There used to be limits on certain issues or realms of the presidency that were to remain untouched, however, first amendment freedoms take precedence over almost any restriction the government could try to place on the media. The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between the media and the president throughout recent years, looking briefly into the past to establish the scale of the dramatic change, and to study their reciprocal connection of how each utilizes the other.
They use their artistic skills as an aid to convey messages to people of all ages. Political cartoons appear all over the internet and social media. The cartoonists usually distort several of the characters’ physical features in order to emphasize a belief or criticize an idea in the society. A recent political cartoon depicts Donald Trump with a long nose. The cartoonist tried to influence the viewers into believing that Donald Trump is a liar, and he does not fit to be president. It might seem that the cartoonist drew the cartoon just to make the viewers laugh, but his goal was actually to present the reasons why US citizens should not vote for Trump. This drawing might not immediately cause the viewers to alter their attitude towards Trump, but the drawing will appear in the viewer's’ mind whenever the presidential election is mentioned. Sometimes, the cartoon might even influence the viewer to vote for Clinton instead of Donald Trump. The more entertaining a cartoon appear, the faster the picture will spread throughout social media and the internet. This will allow the cartoonist to spread his ideas to a greater amount of
The topic of the cartoon is the recent statements from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, in which he states that the election will be rigged causing him to lose. At a rally in Columbus, Ohio, Trump made his first accusation of a rigged election, saying, "And I'm telling you, November 8, we'd better be careful, because that election is going to be rigged." He also stated it was due to voter identification issues and that people will vote up to 10 times against him. Many professionals call this untrue and impossible to achieve due to our technology and higher voter security. Trump’s accusations stem from the DNC email leaks of seven party officials from earlier this year, where there was apparent favoritism to Clinton over her then-opponent Senator Bernie Sanders.
“It is within the established American tradition of satire. If America surrenders on this point, the freedom of speech is relic of history”- Pamela Geller. Currently, citisens of the United States are under the influence of their 45th President Donald Trump, who is an individual with strong opinions on race and sex. But, wants to have respect from everyone who did and did not vote for him during the election between him and Hilary Clinton. The 45th president, wants to overtake freedom from citisens as he wants everyone to hail down to him to see him as king to feel like they have power over everyone has a royalty. This political cartoon with the name of ‘Trump Wants a Kiss’ by Kevin Kallaugher (also known as KAL) was successfully created through
I find myself, regardless of how assiduous work became this past year, still hearing the rhetoric of politicians, media circles and celebrities. Wondering how citizens can disrespect the office of president a place once revered as the highest honor. One would think the rhetoric would end, but yet it seemed the disrespect continued long after Trump was elected president of the USA. I heard Denzel Washington remark a news reporter about how important their task is to not only report something first, but accurately and honestly.
China and U.S. relations are complex, but it is important to attribute historical context when analyzing contemporary issues. Prior to China establishing their global role as a superpower, their nation endured nearly a century of humiliation which began in the 1800s and concluded in the mid-1900s. Although they’ve redeemed their nationalism, the intrusion of Western imperialism created tension and hostility which lasted for years after. Also, the United States’ response to local Chinese events, such as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, negatively impacted their relationship because it was an example of how American media and officials utilized knowledge about particular Chinese events and disseminated various rhetorical messages in response.
Attwood gives the maids the justice they deserved by giving them a voice to tell their story. She brought to light the trouble of the maids, whom many barely even spared a second thought, and forced readers to hear their side of the story. Their story was riveting and compelling in such a way that with less than half the novel dedicated to them, they still commandeered the attention of the story. While Attwood will never be able to right all the wrongs that were done to the maids in The Odyssey, she has done, to the best of her ability, to correct the misgivings done to them and her best was well worth the effort. The maids point of view of what occurred to them during The Odyssey, will not soon be forgotten, (Omari, Kifah (Moh'd Khair) Ali Al, and Hala Abdel Razzaq A. Jum'ah.
