Earlier this year a law suit was filed against President Donald Trump by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington D.C. (CREW) The lawsuits said President Trump violated the foreign emoluments clause which according to Fahrenthold (2017), “No title of Nobility shall be granted by the Unites States: And no person holding any office of profit or Trust under them, shall, without the consent of the congress, accept of any present, Emolument, office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any king, Prince or foreign State”. Recently 38 trademarks was granted to Trump in China after a decade of him fighting in courts. The timing of this is peculiar because he was granted the trademarks after he was elected President. The interest groups concerning the emolument clause are the American citizens, foreign government and President Donald Trump. According to D. Baron, “interest groups forms among individuals and organizations with aligned interest.” Each of these interest groups have a great deal at stake which would greatly out weight the cost of forming an interest group. The American citizen’s interest group would take a great deal of interest in the emolument cause because their security and peace of mind could be at stake. I f President Trump was forced to pass a law to help a foreign country based off the leverage that particular country may have could easily disrupt many people lives. For example if China wanted to be allowed to release harmful gases into atmosphere and they leveraged President Trump trademark on getting lenient environmental laws past then this could cost jobs in the U.S or harm citizens health by adding additional pollutants into the air. So by this interest group enforcing the emolument clause they could possibly prevent such a thing from happening. Foreign governments are another interest group who if allowed could prosper from having President Trump disregard the emolument clause. Because it would give them the power to hurt President Trump financially by causing problems for his business outside of the U.S. Which could give them an advantage
