The first question of the interview was who is in charge of picking the team in this nursing facility? According to Mr. Stofer, management is in charge of picking the team. In this case it would be the administrator. The team is anyone who has the patient’s best interest at heart. As far as the morning meetings are concerned the team is anyone who is head of the departments here in the facility. The team can start from activity personnel to the administrator (Stofer, Administrator 5/2018).

The nurse leaders play a vital role in the promotion of evidenced based practice. The nurse leaders role will also involves the prioritization of needs within the unit. Once the leader has determined a need, or the focus of the work. The nurse’s role will then shift. The leader will then research and help facilitate the evidenced based practice. The role also involves the nurse to communicate and collaboration of all involved in the project. This is also known as the promotion of the project. An effective nurse leader will create an environment that is conducive for the promotion of this evidenced based practice. These changes have resulted in professional nurses commonly assuming inpte-rprofessional team leader roles (Porter-O Grady, 2013). As inter-professional team leaders, nurses must have knowledge of group dynamics, team characteristics, and also have the skills necessary to effectively manage teams (Porter-O Grady, 2013). According to Porter-O Grady, “facilitation, coordination, and intergration of care” are inheret to the nursing profession and are essential effective nursing practice (2013, p.__ ). In healthcare it is very important to have strong leaders, especially in the nursing profession. A nurse leader typically uses several styles of leadership depending on the situation presented; this is known as situational leadership. It is important that the professional nurse choose the right style of leadership for any given situation to ensure their employees are performing at their highest potential. Depending on which leadership style a nurse leader uses, it can affect staff retention and the morale of the employees as well as nurse job satisfaction (Azaare & Gross, 2011.) “Nursing leaders have the responsibility to create and maintain a work environment which not only promotes positive patient outcomes but also

effectiveness (Cioffi & Ferguson, 2009). Therefore, it is important to ensure that nurses who assume leader roles have the skills to manage and delegate tasks as required. There must be clearly defined roles and responsibilities for each team member that take into account the levels of expertise among the members. It can be troublesome when team members do not carry their share of the work. When this occurs, other team members take on an additional work burden to address the shortfalls in patient care. If the team leader is unable to provide clarity and direction for the team, the model will not be effective.

Effective nurse leaders are often flexible and are able to change style of leadership to suit changing circumstances. They ensure that their people are regularly being challenged to grow and learn. Nurses show leadership by giving feedback and empowering others to bring out their best and the opportunity to grow. I believe that good leaders help people to see that what they do makes a difference. Nurse further their education to expand and gain knowledge so they can render excellent quality care that patients deserve. Also, the leaders would also help other nurses to work as a team to help the facility run to deliver high-quality care. A leader, “should think and talk about future trends that will affect the team's work, and make sure you communicate your vision to your team regularly” (Pearce, 2007, p. 25). Therefor a good leader should strive for what is best for the advancement of a group or people that they lead.

As I mentioned previously, our resource nurses play a major role in EBP in the NICU. Another aspect of a positive facilitator that stuck out to me is one that shows characteristics of coaching, mentoring, effective communication and playing the role of a cheerleader. All of these characteristics apply to the majority of the nurses here in the NICU. I feel like we excel in team work. The use of a strategic process or plan is as well a positive facilitator I see often. Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets an example. Throughout Faye’s life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in her leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care throughout the world. For example, during a visit to the San Diego long-term care facility Faye noticed statutory violations and other evidence of substandard care. During her opening of the conference of the American Health Care Association, she announced to them that the lack of patient care was unacceptable in the homes

Fixing problems that face health care in many health facilities demand a system wide set of solutions. The systems used in these facilities must be assessed and redesigned to identify factors that will aid in the achievement of the set goals. The enormous task of achieving the goals should be undertaken collaboratively by all the key stakeholders, who include, health care professionals, planners and policy makers, administrators, payers, and patients and their families. These partnerships must begin with a common understanding of the problems together with a shared commitment to cooperate and work together to eliminate the problems. With this knowledge, therefore, an action plan for redesigning the health care system can be developed and later implemented. For a successful health care service to be realized, there are various factors which should be employed and which are not found in the traditional business setting. These include unique economic processes, proper regulatory requirements and the perfect quality indicators. This creates a need for every leader within the healthcare industry to create or develop unique skill sets that will harmonize both organizational leadership and the inter-professional team development. It is, therefore, important to understand the comprehensive approach to the management of patient care and also how the concepts of team development and organizational leadership support healthcare leaders in creation of a patient-centric
