Princessa Beauty Products is a retailer of beauty products catered to the black community that has been around for more than 20 years. Princessa is one of the oldest beauty stores serving the black community in Montreal and is located on the western side of the island. George Richards managed Princessa for two years and purchased the store from the original owners using his life savings. Between the years of 2002 and 2006 the store showed growth in sales from $453,156 to $605,249, but between 2005 and 2006 annual sales stayed the same and in 2007 sales fell to $509,000. Hair, which accounts for more than 50 percent of sales, would be a great sector to focus on. Another option for Princessa would be expanding by offering more bath and shower products, which is also a profitable sector in Canada. This area could be made into a more visible and creative display. Unlike all the hair extensions and wigs on the walls and hair products on the shelf, this section can be set up on tables. Richards can have his sales associates create gift baskets that offer different scents and products catered to woman of color. At Bath & Body Works, they offer a lot of these baskets; most of them include bath loofah’s, candles, soap, and body lotions. Black women tend to use different products than white females for moisturizing their skin. Black females concentrate more on improving their skin by using a lot of natural products such as shea butter, coco butter, mango butter, and jojoba oils to keep their skin smooth and soft. At retailers such as Bath & Body Works they do offer certain body butters, lotions, and soaps but they are not an expert on how to deal with flaky and dry skin for specific skin tones. Lastly, the most effective alternative for Princessa Beauty Products would be to offer their merchandise online through opening an eBay and Amazon store.
