Racing is a sport that has been around nearly since the invention of automotive transportation, and it has only grown and developed as the years passed. Throughout many decades, racing has evolved in various ways. This era brought along new companies, new models, new types of racing, and even brand new types of cars. Some of those new innovations include stock, pro-stock, top-fuel, and funny cars. These four types of cars have greatly impacted the racing world today.
Stock cars are regular cars that have been fine tuned and upgraded for racing in competitions. One of the most well known stock-car racing leagues is NASCAR. Before racing was a popular sport, stock cars were just normal cars that were not altered or upgraded in any way. They were left exactly the same since they were made in the factory. As racing evolved, tracks became tougher. They became more rough and included sharper turns. This lead to racers having their stock cars upgraded to be able to handle the difficult courses.

The limitations in Pro-Stock Drag Racing are very strict, thus not permitting much variety in the competition for a race. The idea of pro-stock cars came from the idea of “super stock” cars. These cars were intended to be fine tuned and upgraded in far more depth than a regular stock car. After numerous super stock cars were produced, it evolved into its own league of racing: Pro-Stock Drag Racing. These cars can perform much better than stock cars, but the higher speed comes with higher steaks. Pro-stock racing can be deadly, for if one wrong maneuver is performed, it can be fatal for the driver. Pro-stock cars are made up of many various materials. The chassis for pro-stock cars are welded 4130 chrome-molybdenum alloy steel tubing. This gives the driver protection in case of any hard collisions. Pro-stock cars can only utilize octane fuel because of the intensity that drag racing demands from the
Muscle Car," two distinctive cars come to mind, the Camaro and the Mustang. Throughout the era of the early 1950's and 1960's, there was a revolutionary movement that took place and paved the ground work for today's "Muscle Cars" known as the "Ponycar Era." Ask any avid Camaro or Mustang fan about the ponycar era, and watch their pain. They will describe cars that would light the tires on fire, floor it, and hang onto the wheel excitement. Back in the 1960's a new idea was soon to hit the American market, the Ford Mustang. When the Mustang was introduced, General Motors soon to had to follow with their own type of sports car. The car they generated was know as the Chevrolet Camaro. The cars
Drag racing, has only one lap when Nascar, has about one-hundred to four-hundred. When a Nascar driver has won, the driver gives exhilaration to the audience by doing doughnuts or burnouts. Also, Nascar has superior stadiums and tracks than Drag racing does. When having superior stadiums, it gives people space to feel comfortable.
Muscle cars changed the way cars were built. Muscle cars were the first cars to have big high performance motors in them. Many cars today have large motors with high horse power output. The muscle car was the first of its kind. Many of the most well known cars have large motors for high performance.
The engines roar and, and the cars are fast. I really enjoy watching sprint cars. One time my family took a trip to Brandon, South Dakota to watch them at Husets Speedway. It was really loud because there was over 50 cars running at once. Husets is a famous track and people come from all over to watch. The track is only three-eighths of a mile and the cars are going at least 100 miles per hour. People watch the crashes and cheer because there least favorite driver is out of the race and of course is ok. Sometimes I feel bad for those who crash cause they have to spend money to fix their car. Some times my favorite crashes are the roll overs, sometimes seeing wrecked cars is one of the best things. The sprint cars body is very complicated the
Stock Cars are cars that are minimally changed or modified and used for racing purposes. The most popular and most widely known stock car races are NASCAR races, or specifically “The Chase for the Sprint Cup”. Most stock cars are household car brands that are modified slightly for the racing environment. The most major changes made to these cars is the engine. Most other parts of the car are the same.
The auto industry was starting to experiment with a new concept called a “sports car.” By the end of the 50s, Americans fell in love with the sports car. After all, the 50s gave birth to the Corvette.
America has been fascinated with racing since the 1800’s and there are so many types of auto racing in America and each one is unique. Cars were idolized in the 1930’s, everyone wanted them. When the cars first became popular they weren’t worried about the utility of the car. The style and design was more about elegance and luxury. Everyone wanted their cars to nice, the 1930’s were considered the Classic Era of cars (Cooke). There were so many companies that began making cars back then, many of them are still making cars to this day. Though some companies never made it out of the 1930’s the cars are still around. The cars back then changed the look and style of cars to this day.
The sports car went from an idea on paper to cars rolling off the assembly line in less than a year. Airflow was a big shortcoming in these sports cars. The engine overheated easily due to an undersized radiator with poor airflow across its core.
This documentary shows that how drag racing is evolved and how modifications are done in cars to make them better and better. Drag racing seems like it’s been with us forever. In truth it’s a postwar phenomenon, with roots stretching back to dry lakebed racing in Southern California in the 1930s. Popularity grew steadily but drag racing remained largely an underground pastime. Races frequently took place on disused military runways with the first organized event dating back to 1949 at the Goleta Air Base in California. As the decade turned drag racing began to get organized. As the sport grew the first drag racing superstars emerged. The Drag master Dart was famously owned by Dode Martin and Jim Nelson, and was so
If you have ever wondered how the cars in NASCAR are so fast, it’s the tech that is in them. In every NASCAR race car, is a piece of machinery that has been worked on for hours. Mechanics of every NASCAR team work for hundreds of hours building engines, making adjustments, building the roll cage, and getting stock parts. The cars are worked on throughout the entire week, because the crews have to go through the car and see if they had missed anything that they were supposed to fix or adjust. If they don’t do that, the driver will talk about how the car is running and feeling. The cars are modified to be able to run on the tracks that they are going to run on. Most of these cars need a lot of adjustments to they run perfectly without any problems.
The different types include flat racing, jump racing, harness racing and endurance racing.

The intricacies that are involved in turning a regular car into a “Street Racer” are many; and racers pour their souls into these magnificent machines. After seeing “the Fast and the Furious” many people have or wanted to become involved in street racing. They do not realize that this is a sport that takes knowledge, hard work, and nerve. Many of these racers have spent their lives under a car, learning the trade and improving upon it. As I have learned, this is not just a hobby; it is a way of life.
