1.2. Problem Statement
In Makueni County a considerable burden of diseases is caused by injuries and other life threatening emergencies. Over two hundred patients with road traffic injuries are received in the health facilities for definitive treatment in a year as per the occurrence register at the County Ambulance Call Centre. The accidents are mainly along the major roads such as Nairobi-Mombasa highway, Makindu-Wote road and Wote-Machakos roads. Although the patients who need emergency care are often handled by the bystanders who come to their aid, some of the victims die on the scene of the accident while others on transit to health facilities. Sometimes, the patients transferred to the health facilities cannot be managed satisfactorily and about a quarter of them require secondary urgent transfer to other health facilities either due lack of facilities or expertise. This often leads to a tremendous loss of time, waste of resources, lack of effectiveness; hence aggravating the injuries sustained resulting to complications or even death. The crash related complications often result to long hospital delays and hence exert pressure on hospital facilities.
The research is therefore aimed at determining the status of pre-hospital emergency care for persons experiencing road traffic injuries and will in turn help to improve the quality of emergency medical services, save life, avert disability and other complications resulting from these emergencies.

The article provides a discussion regarding data reviews of selected sources on indirect and directs costs of healthcare-related accidents. Indirect and direct ratios for various credible research studies undergo computations so as to update them and allow for the estimation of the current
Individuals who sustain injuries during a motor vehicle accident, while at work or due to a slip and fall should seek medical treatment as soon as possible. Neglecting to receive prompt medical care could lead to additional problems, including a lifetime of chronic pain. Furthermore, if an individual neglects to seek treatment within a certain timeframe following an accident, he or she may lose the ability to pursue compensation for the injuries sustained in the accident.
Before reading this chapter I associated injuries with accidents and did not know that they were classified differently. The large number of injuries and occurrences at emergency departments did not surprise me and although the statistics were very startling, they
This research paper looks at the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). The National Disaster Medical System is a federally coordinated system that helps build the nations medical response capability during major medical or public health incidents that states and local communities cannot handle by themselves (USDHHS, 2015). The research in this article draws upon the history of the establishment of NDMS, and how other hospital teams were first created. The focus of this paper is to explain the goals, mission statement, objectives, and funding of the NDMS. The final section of this paper will explain how the NDMS fits into Emergency Management at the state and local levels, and explain all the different teams in NDMS medical and health professionals can sign up for.
America’s emergency rooms see this type of critical events as a daily occurrence. Often you will find that people will go to the emergency department for care because the ER cannot refuse to care for that come to be seen. If we look into the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act any person seeking care must receive assessment and immediate care for their ailment. Often the issue is financial, if a patient is seen at a doctor’s office co-pay or full payment is required at the time of service. With many Americans that do not carry medical insurance their ability to attend to the issue prior to it becoming an emergency is not
Officials said that on Friday morning in Texas four citizens sadly perished in a car accident. These four victims were from Kitchener, Ontario. On Texas highway Interstate 35, the police said the crash began when a driver was driving on the wrong side of the highway road, south of Austin (Texas). Justice of the Peace Beth Smith told us that at 1am two men, one woman and a baby had died. Two other little girls went to the hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening. After they were checked out by the doctors, they were sent home with other family members who arrived in Texas. They had found out that the victims who had died were 27 year old Margaretha Wall Hildebrandt Peters, 31 year old Heinrich Martens, 30 year old Gerhard Hiebert
September marks the 52th anniversary of EMS’ debut into the public following the publication “Accidental Death and Disability: The Neglected Disease of Modern Society” also known as the “White Paper,” an article promoting the need for emergency rescuers by identifying motor vehicle accidents as the “leading cause of death in the first half of life’s span” (Ferbrache). Emergency Medicine is a very young but popular industry
I have reviewed the personal injury collision data held by the council for the Chase Ridings / Uplands Park Road junction and in the three year period to 31 July 2016 (latest data available) there have been no personal injury collisions.
Vehicle two was parked facing north legally on Lakeshore Drive and not occupied at the time of the collision. Vehicle one was travelling north on Lakeshore Drive from West Cuthbert Boulevard at the time of the collision. Driver one related that he was not watching the roadway when he was glancing to the left. While doing so, driver one related that his vehicle drifted to the right, out of its lane of travel causing him to rear end parked vehicle two. Vehicle two was then pushed in to utility pole # 61725, which is owned by PSE&G Utility Company.
Today, overcrowding affects the viability of emergency departments across this county (Derlet, 2002). Emergency department overcrowding refers to an excess of patients in the treatment areas exceeding ED capacity. According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), over one half of all sentinel event cases of morbidity and mortality resulting from delays in treatment occur in hospital emergency departments. Emergency department overcrowding has been cited as a contributing factor in 31% of these sentinel event cases. (Trzeciak & Rivers, 2003). Consequently, overcrowding affects persons who suffer an unexpected severe illness or injury requiring time sensitive emergency treatment. Therefore, patients must
Research and comment on the importance and applicability of the various levels of emergency department trauma care. Investigate the exemptions afforded to a critical care rural hospital with respect to Medicare reimbursement and accreditation.
Northwell Health has partnered with GoHealth to instate urgent care centers throughout the tristate area. GoHealth is an existing organization with locations throughout the country, their partnership with Northwell Health has developed new locations to meet the needs of the communities currently served by Northwell Health. Urgent care units are designed to be accessible and convenient; becoming a part of the community. In the past, patients did not have an option but to visit an emergency room, the development of urgent care units offers an alternative. The idea behind urgent care units is to shift the notion that emergency room visits are for all injuries; only severe injuries should be treated in an emergency room. Such units reduce the crowdedness
While in the emergency vehicle I call my moms car, we were on the way to the hospital. The whole time riding I kept my eyes closed shut. Every little bump in the road and the flash of car lights passing by made the drumming headache behind my temples worst. Impatiently sitting in the cold hospital room, the doctor diagnosed me with a level two concussion and a neck injury. At that very moment I couldn't even cry or be upset I was in so much pain and ready to just go home. We started to wrap up the visit. The doctor prescribed me some medication and physical therapy for the next six weeks. I’m not a big fan of medication. Growing up I had a hard time swallowing pills, and just always wanted my body to fight things naturally. The medicines
Minor injury and illness can be quite common within the school and most common incident dealt with staff. But In some cases, staff should be alert of any situation that would require the urgent medical help. They should call 999 in any situation. Where the person is seriously ill or injured and their life in dander’s it may include;
Individuals who have a sports-related injury or who have sustained injuries during an automobile crash should seek treatment promptly. In respect to seeking medical treatment, there are time limits placed on individuals who sustain injuries in any type of accident; therefore, individuals who neglect to seek treatment in a timely manner may find it difficult to attain compensation from the responsible party for their medical care. Furthermore, injuries that are left untreated frequently lead to chronic pain that lasts a lifetime.
